Male members of a jury are more likely to find a defendant guilty if the accused person is an overweight female.
According to a recent study by Yale University psychologists, male – and not female – jurors are also more inclined to believe that a fat woman is a repeat offender who had malicious intent.
The researchers gathered a group of 471 pretend peers of varying body sizes and described to them a case of check fraud. They also presented them with one of four images—either a large man, a lean man, a large woman, or a lean woman—and identified the person in the photograph as the defendant.
Participants rated the pretend-defendant’s guilt on a five-point scale. No fat bias was present when the female pretend peers evaluated the fake female defendants or when either men or women assessed the guilt of the men.
But when the male pretend peers pronounced judgment on the fake female defendants – physical bias weighed in on their decision.

As most of these “studies” it is a complete fraud. The “study” was not about court cases. No one was in a courtroom during a real trial.
Pictures were shown to men outside of a courtroom. Telling them that it was about a trial does not make it about a trial.
As with all these “studies” idiots will apply the false results to real life with stupid consequences.

I’m 100% certain that someone who would apply for a grant to determine whether men are sexist is going to find that the data shows that men are sexist.
This is what comes of results oriented studies in the humanities.
Has there ever been a hypothesis in the humanities that has not been supported by the grant funded research? I don’t think so.
Why even do the research (assuming that they actually do). Just write up your assumptions and publish it as fact.

In a somewhat similar vein, Tom Wolfe wrote "The Painted Word" about modern art. I believe the point he made was that the stuff on the canvas had ceased to be very important -- it was all about the critics. A critic could "see" things other people did not see. A critic could find "meaning" where there was none. If a critic said you were a mere dauber, then it was over for you. If a critic said you were the next big thing, then you were.
The painting didn't matter -- the reviews were where the action was.
The research doesn't matter -- the published "findings" are what's important.

Robert Bork, who served as a tank commander in Korea during the Korean War (and was grilled by certain Senate Democrats for taking a leave from law school to do so) said that if he were innocent he would prefer a court-martial, if he were guilty, he would prefer a civilian jury.
I believe that women jurors are far more prone to acquit, in general, than men.
And what about the Menendez brothers batting their eyelashs at female jurors?

This is total crap. Of course, if I am shown pictures out side a court room, I might say that a fattie is guilty of the crime...However, in a courtroom as a juror, I would take the situation VERY seriously and help pass a truthful verdict that has only evidence as my guidance. This is the most crappy article and study on Earth.

And it's not necessarily sexist. I think Rush Limbaugh is a text-book case of it. He falls for a gorgeous young woman, then can't handle a long-term relationship where he might have to deal with the horrible reality that she is not beautiful and perfectly groomed 24/7.

You could write a PhD dissertation on many men's tragic inability to love what doesn't excite his eyes sexually at any particular moment.
A fat woman is a woman a man doesn't want to have sex with. Therefore, she's to be hated, and imprisoned away from sight!. Even if she was beautiful once, was faithful and loving and devoted. He hates her.

To be blunt it is "hard" to fake an erection. Visual stimulation is not required but makes the situation 100 times easier. We cant just lay there and groan and fake it. No PhD dissertation needed.

In this world where so many marriages fail and do horrible damage to children, it wouldn't hurt for a few studies on how men can deal with their sexuality and how what their eyes so can ruin their lives and the lives of their children.
Women don't have the kind of hostility to fat men that men have toward fat women. For instance, you don't see a lot of photographs posted on FR of fat men by women, but it's *hard* to ever get through a thread about the "war of the sexes" without the prerequisite grotesque photo of a fat woman, posted by a gleeful FReeper boy who must have a whole file of them at the ready.
The study was also about people's reaction to fat men. Only men's attitudes towards women were so prejudicial. Imagine hating to look at a woman so much that you want her imprisoned.
That was a nice response but the war between the sexes continues. The “fat” wife demands either celibacy or fidelity from her husband who just wants to enjoy the simple act of love making.
