NY Poised to Pass First Gun Bill Since Sandy Hook Shooting
NBC NY ^ | Jan 14, 2013 | Michael Gormley

Posted on 01/14/2013 12:08:01 PM PST by Tirian

A key New York Senate leader and the Assembly speaker said they expect the state Legislature to vote Monday to enact what would be the nation's first gun control measure following last month's Connecticut school shooting.

"I think when all is said and done, we are going to pass a comprehensive gun bill today," Sen. Jeffrey Klein told reporters Monday morning. "I'm very excited about it. I am very confident we are going to vote on a comprehensive bill that will be agreed on by the governor, the Senate and Assembly."

People familiar with closed-door negotiations told The Associated Press a tentative deal was struck over the weekend.

The tentative agreement would further restrict New York's ban on assault weapons, limit the size of magazines to seven bullets, down from the current 10, and enact more stringent background checks for sales. Other elements, pushed by Republicans, would refine a mental health law to make it easier to confine people determined to be a threat to themselves or others.

Senate Republicans also have included a further crackdown on illegal gun trafficking into New York, the people said. Most New York City gun crimes involve weapons illegally brought into the state, state and city officials say.

They are proposing 7 rounds for two reasons.

1) If it passes, they effectively ban semi-autos, only revolvers.

2) They can look like heroes by “compromising” from 7 to 10 round mags and therefore paint opponents as crazy and intransigent. (Ten rounds is probably where they wanted to be in the first place.)

the sooner they do this the better to the current supreme court can shoot it down for the unconstitutional garbage it is.

Unconstitutionality, is dependent upon the constitution of the supreme court, or the make up of that court.

With 4 judges who can be reliably be counted on to vote with liberal policies, and with 4 republicans who "might" vote against liberal policies, and with one judge who can swing either way, chances are that, liberals could end up winning the policy argument, regardless of whatever new laws are passed or new executive orders are implemented.

The Obamacare ruling last year, has emboldened liberals to try to get more laws and regulations passed that, in prior times, would have easily been ruled unconstitutional.

Yeah, I have some sympathy for those who are tied down. Not much you can do about it. Especially since the whole damn state is mostly controlled by one corrupt city.

I certainly would be in the boating accident crowd were I in your shoes.

I remember hearing about lots and lots of Canadians from the more rural areas who had boating accidents en masse as well.

probably thinking about wheel gun limits...5,6,7...because obviously 10 you’d never, ever ever use. you’ll nver face off against a’coked up muscle freak, youll never ever go up against home’invaderd wearing armor, you’ll never have multiple attackers come after you - they even say this as a guarantee by the state of NY and you can sue them if it happens - oh wait, they didn’t say that, and you can’t sue NY if these scenarios happen and your 7 rounds aren’t enough.

Ain't it great? Everyone agrees, "in closed-door session."

Nothing like "government in the sunshine, eh?

You know, it just might be possible to divide this country along state boundaries again, after all...

New York has that covered as well in that the failure to promptly report a lost or stolen firearm is a misdemeanor.

Does that mean they are going to dredge the lake if you report the gun accidentally lost in it?

No, but if you are late found in possession of a lost or stolen firearm, them may prosecute you for (a) filing a false report; and (b) possession of a lost or stolen firearm.

True, but I imagine that you’re probably already in trouble if they’re able to search your premises like that.

Call your NY representatives. They are meeting behind closed doors and don’t sound like they are going to abide by the three day rule for posting a bill before voting on it!

Ok then. I’m cancelling next summer’s planned trip to NY, and will be instating a personal boycott of NY products and service providers. Maybe I’ll spend my vacation dollars in Texas.

From thirty to ten to “five or six” to three to one to NONE!

Bloomberg Blasts NRA: ‘Connecticut Is Because of Some of Their Actions’

...
But if he had his preference, Bloomberg said he would go farther than the 1994 ban and outlaw all automatic and semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity magazines. The mayor said magazines shouldn’t be allowed to contain more than five or six rounds.

“If you haven’t hit the deer with three shots, you’re a pretty lousy shot. The deer deserves to get away,” he said....

Sounds like the Republicans are doing what they usually do in a situation like this: Shooting owners in the back.
