I find it utterly degrading not to be allowed the same weapons used by police and our military. Individually, that is. Not armored urban assault vehicles and cruise missles, but everything a single cop/soldier can carry and operate on his own. There must be a reason they use them, and I may employ the same, plus the extra reason that I need protection from them.
When that happens, the “hot war” of a second American civil war will begin.
What we need are some good guns laws like Mexico has! You know, the kind of gun laws where you get thrown in jail for trying to carry your grandfather’s antique shotgun into Mexico. That should solve all our gun violence problems! (Big Sarc)
There is a tiny part of history that is often missed when we consider the circumstances that started the last revolutionary war.
The citizenry (colonists) had a pretty robust list of grievances (eloquently stated in the declaration of independence). But war did not start when the King levied tariffs and taxes on imports/exports. It didn't even start at the so called Boston Massacre. The "Shot Heard Around the World" started the war. That confrontation came after Paul Revere and company rode throughout the countryside letting the rural folks know the British were coming with orders to confiscate their weapons.
The reason "the British were coming" is often lost in history. But the king had ordered the colonists disarmed. That was motivation enough for the locals to come together. And it is stated that the people did not intend or expect shooting to break out. They thought they could stop the Brits with a show of force and numbers. Remember, nobody knows who fired the first shot. But the citizens did finally revolt when the government came for their guns.
