It's no surprise to LaTanya Lozano that homicides are up in the Bay Area's biggest cities. She moved to Hayward in late 2011 to try to protect her four sons, only to see two of them shot dead last year back where she used to live, Oakland.
First her 15-year-old, Shonte Daniels Jr., was shot by a 14-year-old friend in a park, apparently after teasing him. Six months later, in October, 21-year-old Rashad Meredith was caught in the middle of a gunfight between rival groups outside his aunt's apartment.
"This tore down my whole life," said Lozano, who was hospitalized in November after attempting suicide with pills. "When I was growing up in Oakland, we fought. But kids these days play with guns."
Lozano is among the wreckage left behind by a rising Bay Area homicide rate, a trend that is chipping away at cities' hard-fought overall reductions in crime.
The jump in killings is prompting some police leaders to blame a shrinking of their forces, which they say has hampered their ability to do proactive work targeting gang members and others who sell drugs and often settle disputes with guns.

But most homicides followed familiar themes, officials said: Many of the victims were young men of color killed in rough neighborhoods by people they knew, and the disputes were typically over gangs, drugs or more trivial matters.

The real reason for so much of the crime in the Black community ? No fathers in the home.
For the record, you can not buy a gun or even one round of ammunition anywhere in Oakland. Legally, that is. In the 90s they passed a law placing a special business tax on everything sold by any business which sells so much as a single round.
Four banger baby daddies, and LaTanya wants to bring 'em all out to the suburbs where the residents moved to get away from LaTanya's family morals and entitlements.

Government always thinks everything is all about government.
The sad sorry simple fact of the matter is if California had concealed carry and shall issue laws, it would soon see markedly less violent crime. Why is that? Because criminals encounter us sooner than they encounter law enforcement officers.
How hard is any of that to figure out?

We are not supposed to say such things, but, I do agree with you. Children need their fathers.
if California had concealed carry
Actually Cali does have concealed carry laws. There are more of them here than you think. If you get pulled over in SF or Oakland with a legal weapon get ready for a big time load of crap. In the end if you keep your cool and put up with the insults from the LEO’s you will drive off with your weapon. If you talk back to them at all you will have to go to court there to recover your legally owned and carried firearm.

Here is the problem and its not being brought up with this emotional presentation which serves to cover the regimes intention to seize all guns but will never cure or minimize this activity because their policies are part of the problem.
(1)Were these murders done with illegally aquired handguns?What is the penalty for engaging in this activity?
(2) What happened to that 14 year old shooter ? What kind of sentence did he get or is he still awaiting trial ?
When will that kid be out on the street?
(3) There are too many shootings where the perps remain on the street because of a “No snitch” promugation.
It’s time to throw this back at the Demo-Coms assailing their past and present criminal sob sister policies where the result is a murder a day of certain areas or more, in this country and a direct result of those policies..
Black males between the ages of 15 and 60 that comprise just 4 percent of the US population were responsive for almost 50 percent of the murders year after year for the last 30 years.
When “liberals” rant about the difference between gun murders in Europe and the USA they never factor in this statistic. Actually, if you back out this demographic and only compare the number of gun murders of non Hispanic Whites in the USA with European gun murders they are nearly the same per capatia.
An inconvenient truth for sure. And a large part of the reason why respectable people aren’t willing to give up their modern semi-auto firearms.
