A shotgun would be better. A pistol & AR-15 are both good for
home defense. I think the shotgun has a slight lead.

Wouldn't want to hear one go off in an enclosed house though....ouch!

Of all weapons, in hospital/police reports the shotgun has the highest kill ratio to shots fired. In close there is no more deadly weapon.
