I have talked with family members who have children in school and they are all pro gun for one or another reason. As for safety in schools, an armed guard was only one solution, backed up by practical means of protection for individual classrooms and other school facilities. Pointed out was the fact that all govt and state buildings, court facilities, and more, have surveillance cameras everywhere, armed guards to enter the bldgs, and it is just accepted by all who come and go. So, practical backup is relatively affordable, acceptable because of acquaintance with usage elsewhere. Cameras in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, etc. Pepper spray canisters, mace, taser for the teacher to use, and whatever other useful weapon, could be in locations within every close off area for protection of those within. Sensible application of course for availability of usage. If every room had a switch to trigger the sprinkler system, which should be in all schools already, it would be a major interruption to invaders and stop or buy time for more lethal action by the victims. Lots more but people are thinking about the situation and I am hoping that the political prostitutes who thrive on crisis are not going to distract from the real issue of safety for the inhabitants of school buildings, children, teachers, etc,.

Good suggestions. One of the first things they should do is to overturn laws that make schools gun-free zones. Right now every person intent on harming a large number of people KNOWS that schools are gun free zones. Whether a school had armed teachers/guards or not, at least a potential shooter wouldn’t know whether he would meet resistance if these laws were overturned.

I think he is a liberal, too. He was sandbagged by an article written by a reporter who was ‘embedded’ with his staff. At a meeting in Europe, possibly Brussels, tongues were loosened at a social occasion. I’m sure that McChrystal thought he was one of the ‘good’ guys, so would get a good write-up. Oops! The reporter was a classic leftie, to whom all people in uniform are looked on as objects of ridicule and contempt.

i like the suggestion made by someone on a radio talk show. Require any teacher who aspires to executive position to pass a gun proficiency course. Whether or not that person is armed at the school is not advertised. A similar situation to the US Air Marshals.

One side effect of this qualification is that more men (?conservatives) might join the education system.

Thanks for the reminder, maica. Stanley McChrystal's stance that Chuck Hagel would be just dandy as head of the DOD says plenty about his political leanings. He's also making waves about gun control, Retired Gen. McChrystal To MSNBC: ‘Serious Action Is Necessary’ On Gun Control

If a teacher already has a concealed carry permit it is absolutely criminal to forbid them from taking their gun to work.

I don't think she actually said that but that's what she meant. I agree, it's nonsense not 'common sense'.

TANDEN: Well, the universal background check is really important. Right now, 40 percent of guns sold in the United States don't have any check system. That's more than Swiss cheese full of holes, you know? So, we really need to address that challenge.

I think that -- those are areas, where, again, gun owners support a comprehensive gun check system. So, I think that's an area where, hopefully, there can be some bipartisan support. Some of these issues are going to be tougher. But I think once the president engages in a conversation with the American people, he has shown time and time again that when the American people get engaged, that's how you change Washington.

Guess I was wrong, she did say it.

Right now, 40 percent of guns sold in the United States don't have any check system.

I wonder where she got that statistic ... and is she including bulk sales to the military, law enforcement organizations and foreign governments in that statistic or is it from some flawed study financed by the gun grabbers

Where is everyone?

All Sunday news shows are moderated by democrats - even Fox Sunday. I don't watch any of them anymore. Would a liberal watch Sunday morning shows if every one of them was moderate by conservatives? Not a chance. Why should we?

When Tim Russert was alive NBC had something to offer - now NBC's got a ‘gee whiz aren't dems wonderful’ elite in that chair. Wide eyed and enthusiastic doesn't substitute well for intellect and integrity - like Russert had...

And Fox had more to offer with Tony Snow - and Hume than Wallace. Wallace is dem lite... and that bit about quoting something someone said 10 years ago and acting all ‘gotcha’ over the fact that people change position over decades gets old - fast. ABC is too hopeless to critique...

Maybe in a few weeks...
