TAYLOR, Mich. (WXYZ) -
A chaotic scene erupted at the Taylor Human Services Center when the crowd waiting for a Section 8 housing voucher distribution got out of control.
The center is located at Eureka and Lange Roads. That's on Eureka, between Beech Daly and Inkster.
Police say thousands of people from all over the area were at the center. Many were homeless, single moms, or disabled. They were hoping to get help paying for their housing from the government.
"There was elderly, disabled people, pregnant single women. They were here for help, to get their Section 8 vouchers. It just shows you what a desperate need... some were here since yesterday," said Rhianna Rodriguez.
7 Action News is being told there were 1,000 vouchers available and 5,000 people showed up trying to get one.

The people there were probably so angry they used their Obamaphones to call 911.
We should all be ashamed of ourselves, providing only 1,000 vouchers when there is demand for 5,000. We should all be TAXED MORE!!
Just a bunch of Obama’s sons and daughters looking for some “Free” housing..after all, its their “Right” to have everything they want in life for free
They sound like they would all be lovely neighbors. /s
No wonder we can’t give military retirees the health care they were promised...http://www.svherald.com/content/community/2013/01/12/344793
Oh well. I guess someone has to sacrifice for the less fortunate. Oh wait, we already did.
Nothing new....regardless of who is POTUS, this has been going on for many, many years. It happens all over the country .... even just to get your name on a waiting list for the voucher. American citizens, especially the blind, elderly and disabled, in desperate need never get the help they need until someone else gives up their voucher....how many vouchers, perhaps multiple vouchers, are going ILLEGALLY to illegal immigrants with multiple identities and/or LEGALLY to illegal families with anchor babies?
Elderly, disabled, pregnant Riot!
I have several rental properties and there is NO WAY I would ever rent to a Section 8 recipient...I don’t care how much the government pays me, it’s just not worth it.
All the section 8 weenies I have ever had the misfortune of ever knowing were young and able bodied professional victims.
Maybe they belong in Section 8 of a jail.
Why not? I have only had one S8 renter but she was good. Clean, paid up promptly. Don’t they get kicked out of the program if they are bad tenants?
Wait until our economy crashes Greek style, and the EBT system crashes with it.
In three days, our cities will be starving, and furious, both.
It's good to be out in "the country", armed to the teeth, and with plenty of fertile land, a stream, a big cast-iron woodstove (with cooktop), a large dog, and supplies. You keep trying to steal from me with your votes, now come and try to get them yourselves, Democrat moochers.
Same thing happened in Columbus ohio a couple of weeks ago...Hundreds of people showed up for the housing thing..I don’t know many units were available but there was one heck of a lot people there...The odd thing was, they all appeared to Arabs.!! they all looked to be wearing burkers..!(?) they showed it on TV.. The cops showed up when they started parking on peoples lawns. So they closed the whole thing down..!!
“A government big enough to give you everything you need, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have.”
Before you buy your next house, make sure there is no Section 8 housing nearby. Even the nicest subdivisions can have Sec 8 housing nearby.
Exactly. People have figured out voting for benefits is easier than working for them. Shame on our Gov’t for failing these people.
Free Stuff for Holder’s People. Yep, “Obama’s Sons” had a taxpayer funded “Groupon” scheme before the rest of us even knew what it was.
The government tries to establish section 8 housing even in the best neighborhoods. If there are houses in there with government back loans that default/foreclose, HUD will often turn them into section 8 housing. In the early 80's, I saw them destroy a beautiful new subdivision that way.
LOL, in some areas if the feds attempted to destroy a nice neighborhood with Section 8 housing there would be some unexplained fires, believe me.
NOT TO WORRY!!!! Under the direction of puppet boy his a##clowns have deliberatley crashed the housing market, Fanny and freddie pick up all the forclosures and the regime puts section 8 supporters in them. there they fixed it! Refi’s go under many names but the underlying machine you dont know about is government run fannie and freddie who will redistribute your forclosed home to the “I have a humanitarian right to housing” crowd. We feed them we give the medical we give them car service to the entitlement offices and doctors, we give them cell phones, housing, internet, school breakfast, lunches and dinner, childcare, prenatel care, birthing, welfare social security, disability. Isnt it nice to know where your tax dollars are going?
Whoa, whoa...! Take it easy!
Didn't you hear? The Republicans control the US House of Representatives where, according to the US Constitution, ALL spending is appropriated. So there's nothing to worry about. We taxpayers are well protected against the kind of Democrat recklessness, corruption, and malfeasance you describe.
I have several rental properties and there is NO WAY I would ever rent to a Section 8 recipient.
Dont they get kicked out of the program if they are bad tenants?
Ok, I don’t have an idea what it is then. Please explain so I know, would you? I have a prospective tenant who has Section 8.
You would think that they would kick them out of the Section 8 program if they were bad.
Just wait until you have to work with the Section 8 authority to get rid of “bad” renters. Then, you will know what happens in the real world.
I’ve seen it happen many, many times and some friends who made the mistake of renting section 8 don’t do that any more since they learned the hard way.
First of all you have to realize that by far, the majority of section 8 renters begin “bad.” They are lazy criminals ripping off taxpayers like myself and others simply because they can. From that point on, law, morals, integrity, and the whole host of words that denote responsibility don’t mean anything.
Through my lifetime I have had times (with a family) that I was “dirt poor” but never took any charity or money from anyone, including the government. I simply put my head down and found work to support them. Believe me, it’s out there.
Section 8 people don’t claim any responsibility for the fact that they are in the situation they find themselves.
