A French commando raid in Somalia to free a captive intelligence agent ended in the deaths of 17 Islamists and a French soldier. France said the hostage also died in the failed rescue, but the man's captors denied he had been killed and claimed Saturday to have seized a second soldier.
Confusion surrounded early reports of the botched rescue of the French agent, known by his code-name Denis Allex. He was captured in the east African country on July 14, 2009, and last seen in a video released in October pleading for the French president to help him.
But it was clear that a dangerous raid the French defense minister said was planned with the utmost of care had gone horribly wrong.
French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Allex was killed by his captors and that one French soldier was missing and one dead, along with 17 Islamists. The Defense Ministry earlier said two commandos were killed in the fighting in the Somali town of Bulomarer. "It was an extremely dangerous mission," Le Drian said. "Everything indicates Denis Allex was killed."
The militant Islamist group al-Shabab, which held Allex for more than three years, said Saturday that he remained alive and in its custody, as was a new captive — a French commando wounded in fighting.
Le Drian said the operation in Somalia was unrelated to the French offensive overnight in Mali to drive back Islamist militants in the west African country. There are seven French hostages in Mali.

Agreed. The French army wrecked the ruling elite in Egypt which you probably have already known. I believe it was General Kleber in the early 1800's. Just a mention for general information. Credit where credit is due. 17 of 'em going to whatever paradise they think is there. One soldier dead- pity.
I have tried to get the figures for Mogadishu, when the dead Americans were dragged through the streets. I did read of one old, old muslim with a long white beard, being plugged again and again before he died. The old hate ridden man was firing at the American forces until the last.

I believe they do, and that they will. I have predicted for years that the anti-Muslim backlash would begin the France.
The refusal of "French" Muslims to assimilate will be their undoing. They look, act and behave as alien savages, and they have elected to crowd themselves into isolated enclaves that will become their own slaughterhouses. There will be no place in France for them to hide. Once unleashed, the bloodlust will spread across Europe like a wildfire. "Leave or die!" will be the ultimatum.
This was all so preventable, but a shrinking Europe chose to import Muslim labor to replace the millions of its own children that it aborted. Now the guests are breeding like rabbits and threatening to conquer their hosts. The only alternative to the expulsion or slaughter of European Muslims is the eventual slaughter of Europeans by Muslims.
At this point, I'm still betting on the awakening of Europe's dormant genes. Vive la France!
The French involvements in Syria and Mali have the possibility to become very expensive and very destructive. If they want to build up their country, they should do so at home.
Wait a minute. I thought France was all peaceful socialists now.
