WSJ ^ | Saturday Jaunary 12, 2013

Marco Rubio, Florida's GOP senator, unveils his reform ideas to 'modernize' the system and put illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship.

Marco Rubio—41-year-old son of working-class Cuban exiles—has lived the upwardly mobile immigrant experience. In his fast rise, the Florida Republican has also experienced the politics of immigration

[....]

"Here's how I envision it," he says. "They would have to come forward. They would have to undergo a background check." Anyone who committed a serious crime would be deported. "They would be fingerprinted," he continues. "They would have to pay a fine, pay back taxes, maybe even do community service. They would have to prove they've been here for an extended period of time. They understand some English and are assimilated. Then most of them would get legal status and be allowed to stay in this country."

It’s the unrealistic expectations and demands of the purists that leads to defeat. Look at McCain’s and Romney’s defeats.

What universe are you living in??? Those two were/are hardly "purists".

When we all are reasonable and work together we achieve victory

And what victory is that??? a compromise that undermines the citizens of this nation??? Sounds like you have been slurping at the DU trough. Wipe your nose. It's showing.

e xenophobes on the right and now we are facing catastrophe.

What a bunch of insulting bullc*ap. Go to the DUmp where you belong.

So, having hordes of people pouring over our border is Xenophobic?

Any country that wishes to survive will control it's borders.

Let me as you this, what if Americans started pouring over the border into Mexico, do you think they would be accommodated?

You are disgusting.

Victory through compromise on guns, abortion and immigration.

Ask her the details. She’ll be happy to tell you all about it. In fact, she won’t shut up about it.

...that deporting millions of people including children...

How absurd that that leftist liberal talking point is still being thrown out there on a conservative website as if that is the only alternative to giving illegal alien criminal insurgent colonists citizenship.

The states that have passed laws not allowing non citizens to work, go to school, get welfare, get food stamps have seen an exodus (self deportation) of this criminal element to other states that treat them better than their citizens. And many of them just went back to Mexico.

California passed such a law some years ago, but the politicians let ONE liberal judge override the legal decision made by the voters in that state.

Imagine how much better of an economy Calif would have if California Proposition 187 (also known as the Save Our State (SOS) initiative) would have been implemented?

Calling legal immigrants wetbacks most certainly is.

Operation Wetback was a 1954 operation by the United States (INS) to remove illegal immigrants.

Big deal, what do you want to call them, Citizens?

LOL My dad had a friend named **** Hernandez, we all called him "Brownbelly". My friend **** Jimenez is nicknamed "Spic". I used to work in a factory with Spic and he used to walk in the door saying "Time to bend the Tacos" in reference to the old Dunkin Donuts ad.

The world was better off when we could call each other derogatory names as terms of endearment.

Gran Torino barbershop scene

That's the world I grew up in and there was nothing wrong with it.

Isn't [s]he the clever one -- propagating the RINO position on everything under Sarah Palin's nickname!!!!

It's intended to denigrate Sarah Palin -- that's all.

The problem is we can't trust the federal government to enforce any of these rules.

Ain't that the truth?!

If the government had done its job and enforced the rules, we wouldn't have 10-12 million (or more) illegals in the country.

It is just that type of attitude that keeps the GOP from winning more of the minority vote.

The GOP can't win the majority vote.

It is isn’t it?

I have to wonder if she is just a troll or an active propagandist. Because he/she/whoever posts that crap isn’t remotely conservative.

That’s fine. But I doubt that fighting with people trying to help fix our current mess is being done for the greater good.

I am a “realist” as well. When basic services are being slashed and capped, the people will notice that this is not the case for resident aliens. Reality will bite these folks in the rear ends.

They'll make exceptions upon exceptions. Just using criminals as an example. They'll find a criminal, plan to deport him and a taxpayer funded attorney will argue against the inhumanity of deporting this poor father who made a mistake......

Rubio is a realist. He realizes that deporting millions of people including children is just not going to happen. If this type of measure had been passed when Bush was president and Republicans still controlled Congress, we would have tied up the Hispanic vote for the foreseeable future,

That's not what happened after Reagan granted amnesty.

I’m beginning to believe you have to be just plain stupid to get elected. Those who have committed serious crimes would be deported? Hell, there’ll be no need for a background check. Just ask them and I’m sure they’ll admit their crimes.
