The German Catholic Church called off an independent review of allegations of sexual abuse in its ranks this week. The head of the investigation accused the Church of censorship. On Thursday, the two sides traded blame as German commentators largely mourned the end of the examination.

Representatives of the German Catholic Church and independent investigators traded blame Thursday after an agreement to have an independent examination of sexual abuse in the Church broke down earlier this week.

The Church's Bishops' Conference called off the investigation -- agreed to in 2011 after a nationwide abuse scandal the year before -- citing a lack of trust with the investigators. The Lower Saxony Criminological Research Institute (KFN) had been tasked with investigating personnel files from churches in all of the country's 27 dioceses, to look for and examine cases of abuse.....

Christian Pfeiffer, who as the director of the KFN had led the investigation, told SPIEGEL ONLINE this week that the Church had refused to cooperate with the investigation, and that he had had to remind the Church of its promise of transparency.

One week the UK academic announces intentions to normalize pedophilia as just another sexual choice. Next week, the German Catholic Church calls off its investigation into pedophilia in its ranks.

Coincidence?

And BTW, if anyone wants to investigate one of the largest organized rings of pedophiles, they are welcome to come to the US and take on the NEA, which also just happens to be massively funded by, and is the official education arm of the democrat party. And its ranks are riddled with pedophiles, with nary a comment by the official party media propagandists.

Christian Pfeiffer is the left-leaning, scumbag darling of the left-leaning German media, like Der Spiegel, whenever they feel the need to cite a ‘criminology expert’. (Big time muzzie apologist as well.)

(Would you cite Piers Morgan as an expert source on gun control issues?)

(And, I don’t see why folks keep posting Spiegel material here as if it were a credible news source. Other than for slanderous purposes, of course.)

If you don't count aggregator sites like T-Online, Web.de etc. and the Bild tabloid, Spiegel.de is by far Germany's biggest mainstream news outlet on the web. And it's one of only a few with an English section - The Frankfurter Allgemeine can no longer afford one. When it comes to news about Germany there aren't that many alternatives. Yes, there are blogs, but many tend to jump the shark after a while, e.g. by getting lost in feuds with other bloggers.

If I understand it correctly, the catholics first gave Pfeiffer the task of investigating and then realized he was not the right man for the job. In that case he's a central figure and a quote in an article seems rather logical than biased.

You’re right. I just never go there.

I suppose my point is that folks here will know that articles from the NYT or WaPo are inherently biased, but may take something posted at Spiegel at face value. Which would be, of course, a major error.

I think most people on here realize that Der Spiegel is a center-left mainstream magazine, but mentioning it never hurts either. As such its news should be taken with a grain of salt and (its commentary with a truckload). Personally I at least find it more bearable than the vile putrid sh*t that is Der Stern.
