>”>>“Appropriate, since Lincoln freed the enslaved, and Obama has enslaved the free....”

Life does have its little ironies.
I will not deny that Obama has made us less free; however, much of our enslavement came long before he appeared on the scene.
Income-tax withholdings are, by far, the most vile and immoral tool of our enslavement: for we cannot even refuse to pay our masters, they that take our due pay before it even enters our hand. It was the 16th Amendment that re-instituted slavery.

Once again I find-myself in agreement. Perhaps maybe one of us should start debating with liberals on their forums?

I think it is interesting that the income tax withholding(payment by employee) started in world war 2 because a lot of people were failing to pay any income taxes and the Federal Government could not go after them all.

So as usual they target a smaller more manageable minority.
Namely business owners who generally have stationary locations in which to visit in addition to being much fewer in number than the general population. The measure was controversial at the time for exactly the reasons you described. But like most Government evils it was never over turned.

“C’mon folks this should all be obvious to everyone. President Obama is going to use one of Lincoln’s bibles for his swearing in a little more than a week from today and then deliver his state of the union on Abe’s birthday. The symbolism is obvious but this is the president’s and the Democratic Party’s “in your face” swipe at us and they will love every minute of rubbing our noses in it. The GOP establishment wusses still think we can find common ground with these people but they want to mock and ultimately destroy us and this is a subtle reminder of that.”

This is true. One really does have to wonder why the left doesn’t understand why the country is becoming ever more hostilities. Their own acts are designed to infuriate the other half.

I read the Lincoln movie was nominated for 12 awards. Hmmm..Just in time for the admitted foreign born Kenyans 2nd inauguration after being unconstitutionally elected for a 2nd time even though 3 months later I’m still having a hell of a time finding people who actually voted for this putz.

Britain and France correctly figured that they'd have to fight Hitler sooner or later. If they let him have his way on Poland in 1939, he'd gobble up more countries and face them later on with a more powerful Reich.

Of course it's possible that taking over Poland would have brought Germany war with the Soviet Union, but in real history, German and the USSR were willing to form an alliance to carve up Poland and give Hitler an opportunity to expand in other directions.

You know, it's touching to think that Hitler and the Nazis were primarily focused on fighting Russia, Stalin, and Communism, but Hitler was on the Western Front in the First World War, and overturning Germany's humiliation by Britain and France was high on his agenda.

On the welfare state, both Churchill and Chamberlain were ambiguous figures. Neither went as far as Labour, and Churchill tried to make opposition to socialism the defining issue in 1945, but both Churchill and Chamberlain had contributed to the growth of the welfare state when they were in office.

Churchill worship does get out of hand. Britons see Churchill in the round with all his good and bad qualities. Americans tend to co-opt him as a simplistic ideological symbol. We don't see the things about him that really irritated his contemporaries and drove them mad during Churchill's five decades in politics. But understand that it was precisely Chamberlain's government -- not Churchill's -- that decided that Hitler had gone too far and needed to be opposed militarily.

All the symbolism in the world isn’t going to save Obama from the monkey on his back.

No, not Michelle. It is Madame Cocaine.
