Jags new GM really said it (twice), no interest in Tim Tebow

Blaine Gabbert will be part of the Jaguars’ quarterback competition next summer. Tim Tebow will not.

That was the word from the Jaguars new general manager Dave Caldwell, who has been given by a free hand by owner Shad Khan to make all football decisions. Caldwell was introduced to the media on Thursday and when asked about Tebow, closed the door on bringing in the Jacksonville native.

“As far as Tim goes, he is a member of the New York Jets. I can’t imagine a scenario where he would be a Jacksonville Jaguar,’’ he said. When asked to repeat that statement, he did.

Caldwell was then asked if that meant even if Tebow is released by the Jets. “Even if he is released,’’ Caldwell replied. “I have others in mind and I’m comfortable with what’s here.’’

That should end the seemingly endless speculation that Tebow was going to wind up playing for his hometown team. ESPN even reported recently that it was a “virtual certainty’’ that Tebow would be playing for the Jaguars next season.I

Hang in there Tim Tebow. I believe your time is coming and don’t let all the negative minds determine your value or shortchange your potential skills as an NFL QB. When the Lord opens your door no man can shut it.

I know I’m just one person, but quite honestly the only reason I would watch an NFL game would be if Tebow were playing. I’m just not interested otherwise.

Couldn’t agree more. The stadium capacity is that of Arrowhead and expands more for Florida Georgia. 67,000 is still a good size crowd to see a Jag game. Now we have to start putting up some Ws.

End of story? Doubt it. More to follow.

If we FReepers will keep this in mind, we won't be so crushed by the things and events we don't understand. Such as the "horror" of the Sandy Hook Elementary "shootings", for one instance.

I’m personally convinced that much of the animosity toward Tebow is religion related.

It CANNOT be about his football skills. He’s one of the most successful college quarterbacks ever.

Moreover, he is totally unique in my memory in this regard:

He led what was a losing team to the playoffs, won his first playoff game, and then spent the following year totally unused.

In my mind, it’s impossible to say that Tebow is not an NFL caliber quarterback because the one time he had a chance to play, he succeeded all the way to the 2nd round of the post-season.

That is not true of Andy Dalton, RGBIII, and Andy Luck. It’s not true of Tony Romo.

My sense is that he should get a chance.

No doubt the NFL is trying to run Tebow out of the league because of his religious views.

Yet I've seen several other players strike almost the same pose. One last weekend. Don't remember the name but he knelt down and obviously was praying. No MSM comment.

Not familiar with Jags attendance but Tebow would certainly add many fans.

Agree. I find the NFL’s (with the libtard press) treatment of Tebow comparable to the GOPe’s treatment of Sarah Palin. Very similar.

I feel the same way, I hadn't watched an NFL game in decades. At some point it just became the National Felon League, and I quit watching. But when Tebow started playing for Denver, I started watching again. Those were some of the most interesting and fun games to watch. Living in north Florida, I would like to watch and support the Jags, but without Tebow, forget it, the Jags are unwatchable, and if the new GM won't even consider it, he is just being stupid and dooming the Jags to obscurity with Gabbert or Henne.

I’ll take him in Charlotte.

Cam Newton isn’t doing the Panthers much good and Charlotte is God’s country. We’d love his faith here!

“LA could not even support the Rams or the Raiders when they had them there.”

This statement shows you have little knowledge of the reasons these teams left the LA market.

Tebow is very likely to be out of football next season because he just doesn't have the potential to be a really great quarterback.

Canada could be a good fit. Anyone here follow the CFL?

Yes, the problem is his football skills. He doesn't have the fundamentals to be a good NFL caliber quarterback.

Lots of top flight college QB's can't cut it in the NFL. That is rather normal.

Look xzins, an NFL franchise will hire virtually anyone if they think it would help them win. They are most certainly not anti-Christian. There are lots of Christians in the league and they manage to do just fine. Tebow's problem is he isn't good enough to be a starting NFL QB, and he is too outspoken and too much of a media draw to quietly sit in the background as a 2nd or 3rd stringer. As long as he remains in the spotlight, Tebow's going to always be a fan favorite amongst many Christians - and because of that teams will always see Tebow as a QB controversy waiting to happen.

I’m a Bills fan, so didn’t see many Tebow games until he got close to the playoffs with Denver.

All I know is that the Bills have suffered through about 5 NFL quarterbacks over their last 13 playoff-less years. Tebow is certainly no worse than the likes of Trent Edwards or Ryan Fitzpatrick - and each of them got nearly at least 2 or 3 years to make it or fail in the NFL. Tebow has also won playoff games - as a rookie. Look at any other mediocre team - and you will see the same churning of mediocre QB’s, Cleveland, Oakland, Kansas City.

Tebow is the most over-analyzed QB I have ever seen. Many worse QB’s have have been given much longer times as a starter. Without a doubt, GM’s are afraid of the publicity/controversy Tebow would bring.

Tebow was an awesome college QB. But, like so many other college players learned the hard way, talent alone does not equal success in the NFL & the NFL is much different than college.

Tebow is a horribly inaccurate passer & his throwing motion is a mess. I'm guessing the Broncos & Jets both tried to work with him on his mechanics. But, he keeps reverting back to form in the heat of the game.

That no NFL teams appear interested in him, even as a backup QB, has zero to do with his faith.

Tebow could belong to some lunatic cult and no teams would care so long as he could consistently throw TDs. The NFL is all about money.

Those who think he is being persecuted ignore the tons of other players past, present & future who promote their faith proudly.

Kordell’s strength is that he was a good but not great receiver who could be used in gadget plays. Even without the Slash thing he probably would have had a good career as a possession receiver, teams like that 3rd option receiver that finds a way to be open when the top 2 are covered. Like Wes Welker. The gadget play potential would have increased his value, but even without that he would have lasted. But he wanted to be a QB, and the rest is history.

Tebow really needs to stop listening to the people that love him for non-football reasons. It’s great that he’s an awesome guy, but that’s not what NFL players get paid for. Problem is all that love is blowing smoke up his rear end, they keep telling him he’s awesome on the field too, and he just isn’t. Not as QB. He’d make a great RB with gadget plays though. But first he has to stop listening to the people that love him.

“How many blackouts did the Jags have last year? Answer ZERO”

How many seats were covered to avoid a blackout? Answer NOT ZERO.

“The Jags play in a larger venue than most teams.”

Wrong.

The problem with you is that you’ve had so much of your own kool-aid that you’ve begun to believe yourself.

He’d do even worse in the CFL. With only 3 downs it’s much more of a passing league than the NFL.

No, the problem with Tebow is his mechanics are so obviously bad it is hard to take a chance on him. When you look at film you can truly see that Tim just doesn’t have the fundamentals to make it worth taking a risk. Add to that the publicity/controversy Tebow would bring and there is a good chance he is not even playing in the NFL at all next year.

Tebow is a hard worker and has a great attitude, but he doesn’t have the skillset for the position he wants to play. If he is willing to avoid the spotlight and maybe take a tight end/3rd string QB type slot he might be a real asset to some team - but definitely not as a starting QB.
