While President Obama pledged to crack down on access to what he called “weapons of war” in the aftermath of last month’s schoolhouse massacre, the White House has calculated that a ban on military-style assault weapons will be exceedingly difficult to pass through Congress and is focusing on other measures it deems more politically achievable.
As a task force led by Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. readies recommendations on reducing gun violence for delivery to the president next week, White House officials say a new ban will be an element of whatever final package is proposed. But given the entrenched opposition from gun rights groups and their advocates on Capitol Hill, the White House is trying to avoid making its passage the sole definition of success and is emphasizing other new gun rules that could conceivably win bipartisan support and reduce gun deaths.
Mr. Biden’s comment this week about taking executive action was seized on by some opponents as evidence that the president wanted to unilaterally restrict gun sales to legal buyers. But officials said executive action refers to limited measures like directing more attention and resources to pursuing violations of existing gun laws and studying gun violence.

They have the beginnings of a national database just by pulling in every form ATF 4473 and starting with those people. If you bought a gun since 1968, you filled out a 4473. There is a record. The ATF is not supposed to have this data, but I'll bet they do.
I also suspect that Democrats around long enough to remember their route in 1994 are now scared to death of their prospects of holding the senate in 2014, should the NRA go after the purple state candidates on this issue.
When the Biden committee was appointed the emotional reaction of the low-information and gun-grabbing knee-jerk liberals was still high, but all of that intensity has dissipated back to the pre-Sandy baseline, from what I see in the media.
It looks to me that the Biden meetings did NOT go well for the gun-grabbing agenda and focused more on preemptively locking up suicidal nut-cases before they reach full rampage mode as well as arming school staff and providing whatever armed security can be afforded.
The image of sitting duck teachers throwing themselves in front of their kids will cause any sane person, including even a lot of liberals, to think they would have been better off if they had their own defensive weapons in the school and the training to use the weapons.
The whole country has been educated on the extensive use of armed guards at schools in many parts of the country.

Look for a EO which restricts import weapons not suitable for “sporting purposes”, an added tax on ammo, language that orders stricter law enforcement procedures and enforcement, waiting periods, mag size limits, closing gun show “loophole” and, above all, Obama will stress his appointment of a “bipartisan study group” to recommend further actions to determine mental capability, the effects of media violence and recommendations. This will all be bragged about at a news conference of “doing what I can” but the “study group” will never materialize. Only gun controls will ever be enacted.
The NRA seems to be “moderate” in that it is non-partisan with Democratic, GOP, Libertarian and independent supporters and it downplays the right to resist tyranny as a primary “in your face” reason for the 2A (too offensive to Democrats), although that right is certainly implied.
How many Democrat NRA members have gone on TV this week to say “I don’t see any reason for more than a few rounds in a magazine for hunting”? The NRA still wants to collect dues from these morons.
But the NRA seems to me to have been very effective in the use of their carrots (money for campaign contributions) and their stick (threat of funding primary opposition).

I think the opportunity of another “crisis” to promote a continuing leftist agenda item was taken as it was available.

I think you are correct. They will pull back from the “assault weapon” meme and now start using the “non-sporting purposes” restriction language.
Which you and I know that the 2nd amendment does not address hunting or sporting.
What is the best way to prevent rapists and other assailants from attacking and hurtling you? You take away their ability to do so in advance. The problem is that it’s often difficult to identify them in advance, so it often results in having to physically defend oneself and physically incapacitate the attacker during the attack.
So, here are the cold hard facts: the gun grabbers are nothing more than the assailants and rapists. When we are able to identify them in advance, we take away their ability to harm us, by not voting for them, or not approving their appointment to administrative positions in government where they can harm us. But when they get into those offices in spite of our best attempts, and they begin their attacks, it is up to us to fend off their attacks the best way we can. That’s when it must get physical. And then we must not merely counter attack against their weapons (the jack-booted thugs that come after us with more powerful assault weapons than they want us to have so we can’t defend ourselves), but we must get physical against the aggressors themselves. We must make up our minds and be strong enough to focus on them physically to disarm them and take away their ability to disarm us.

If we actually do prevent the gun grabbers’ best efforts from being successful, it will be because they fear for themselves the repercussions of what may result. There have been too many folks out there who have advocated violent resistance, to cause the grabbers to hesitate. But below the tip of the iceberg represented by each of those few brave souls who have voiced their intent to resist are likely thousands more who are silent and unknown.
I think this may be why many are cautiously optimistic - but prepared, just in case.

It’s called ostracism. Businesses refuse to sell them food, clothing and shelter. But you need an organized community to pull it off, and organization is a tactic that conservatives haven’t discovered yet.

The president of the National Rifle Association said on Thursday that there was no negotiation with the Obama administration on gun rights in an effort to stem violence in the wake of the shootings at a Connecticut elementary school last month.
“There isn’t on guns,” NRA President David Keene told CNN. “There is not on guns, not that I can see.”

While my son was at Fort Hood he made a number of purchases for the family.

They must have lots of records on me! I bought guns from 1968 through 2000. Problem is I have moved several times, and sold off most of them when I got hungry enough.
I wish I had all of them back now!
