She inadvertently followed two of the common rules for gun fighting. One rule says you need to create a wall of lead between you and the aggressor. The other rule she followed says that if your aggressors disarm you and use your gun against you it’s only to beat you with because it’s empty.

She really needed much more lethal ammo. I bet it was some of the cheap ball ammo that’s mostly good for target shooting. Also, from some of the other reports I’ve read, it looks like the perp had done some time, meaning he was probably rock hard. All the more reason for a larger caliber pistol, more cartridges, and stronger ammo.

Now, if she’d have had a Taurus Judge with .410 rounds in there, this story would have had that warm ‘awww’ bit at the end that the perp died from the 28 pellets embedded in his face and body.

All the keyboard commandos can call for more deadly ammo, pipsqueak .410 shot gun loads etc. but bottom line is; a human is hard to kill, especially if they are full of fight and there is a lot of space around the critical points in a head shot. The lady did exceedingly well.
Yes she did. That doesn't alter the fact, though, that the perp was still mobile after being shot 5 times. Had there been a second perp, the lady might have been in deep trouble. I won't say she needs more range time. Her accuracy was great. But she really does need to upgrade the ammo. Hollowpoints, at the very least. And it might not have hurt to go to a semi-auto with a bigger magazine capacity.
Their approach to all this is criminal. The gun was the equalizer here. Why did the guy seek her and the kids out?
If Obama’s gun control was in place we’d be reading about a violent rape and triple murder with a suspect at large.

Totally agree. A .357mag is hard to beat. Practice with cheap .38 wad cutters and load up at home with .375 Glasser safety slugs or hollow point mags.

I've read some good ballistic reviews on the Taurus using high end 3" .410 rounds. I wouldn't want to be on the business end of it.
Or, someone may want to use an FN Five Seven with a laser sight and 20 rounds of high end 5.7 x 28mm ammo:

Your method is exactly the same as mine except that you forgot the snap caps for practicing drawing and trigger control.
I like it! Better than dry firing. The caps will help to overcome any flinching (I'm sure I flinch with my Smith .44 mag).

Actually there is a buck and ball ,410 shotgun round. One large ball and bunch of pellets can ruin your day. Some have three large balls and a bunch of pellets too.
Just bought one on Gunbroker, hope the transfer beats 0bama’s executive order.
Exactly what I have been thinking all along. Police Officers had to start carrying different weapons, because the criminals were out gunning them.
So it is with the civilian population. With all the gangs operating the way they do these days, there is no way that a simple hand gun is sufficient self defense.

Most people don’t realize it, but the Taurus Judge really shines when you load it with hot .45 Colt loads like the ones you can get from Cor-Bon or Buffalo Bore. They turn your revolver-with-a-glandular-disorder into a pocket .45-70.
