The White House on Tuesday afternoon reached out to major philanthropic foundations not typically associated with gun control to gauge how much they are willing to get involved in President Obamas future gun violence prevention efforts, according to a person on the call.
The call, which featured Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Jonathan Greenblatt, the director of the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation, and members of Vice President Bidens staff, was largely a listening session, according to the person on the call, who represents a foundation invited to participate.
The person said the call included the Open Society Institute, the McCormick Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the California Endowment. Those groups, which traditionally work in public health fields, have not previously been identified with major gun control efforts.

You worthless “Patriots” helped to give Obama a 2nd term to finish the destruction he began in the first! What a bunch of self-centered, selfish bastards! You hold some responsibility for what we're now facing. You saw what Obama did his first term, yet you had more rage for Romney. Hope you're F-ing happy!
I broke down and voted for Mittens. Where is he right now? The guy who wanted to Lead our country two months ago - where is he? Has he weighed in on this yet?
The comunity organizer is a real America destroyer! Keep it up Obama...All hell is going to break loose on your watch you damn idiot!
That's irrelevant now...isn't it?
Where are the so-called Patriots who sat home and had their little pity on election night? I can just imagine these pathetic douche bags sitting home on election night saying: "Yeah, that’ll show ‘em! They'll be sorry.”
Romney isn't to blame for where we're at now. I blame the Patriots who either stayed home, or wasted a vote on a 3rd party candidate. Oh, and many of these so-called Patriots were also joining liberal rags like Politico in trashing some of our GOP candidates like Bachmann and Cain. And they had the balls to bitch about Romney winning the Romney! Pfft.
Romney sucked. Romney lost because of Romney. He is not owed anyone’s vote, and he was unable to earn it. Get over it.
“And they had the balls to bitch about Romney winning the Romney! Pfft.”
Meant to say:
Romney winning the primary.
Romney wanted to be our president two months ago. Two months ago. Now we’re waist deep in a historic battle and he’s...what...too busy? What a joke. You can bitch and moan all you want. Romney is a no-show. We’re on our own. Romney had a bit part in a bad play.
Actually, it was two men. One got a dirt bed, the other life without parole.
“omney sucked. Romney lost because of Romney. He is not owed anyones vote, and he was unable to earn it. Get over it.”
No, Romney lost because 4 million selfish A-holes saw him as a bigger threat than Obama!
You and the other “Patriots” should “get over” Obama’s upcoming EO for gun control! Selfish A-holes.
So let me get this strait; you're pissed that Romney’s a “No-show” but have no problem with the 4 million no-shows on election night? So tell us, what would you like Romney to do right now? Sorry, I'll save my anger for where it should be; at those people who just couldn't bring themselves to vote for Romney on election night; or perhaps voted for Virgil Goode.
No we got Obama for another four years (or life), and this destruction, we will never recover from. Thanks true “Patriots”! We love ya...so does Obama. ;-)
They’re gonna get what they give...
This is gonna get messy
“Sorry, I’ll save my anger for where it should be;”
Me too. This one is up to us. May God Bless.
That may be one of the stupidest things I've ever read here in 15 years.
Almost as stupid as the knuckle-heads telling us there was no difference between Obama and Romney.
So tell us, how’s Obama working out for you? Guess you and the other Patriots showed the rest of us a thing or two.
You need to wake the hell up. You think your vote COUNTED? The election “buisness” in this country is rigged in favor of democrats.
I will never vote for another Republican. That party is dead to me. However, it wouldn’t matter if I did because no conservative will ever make it to higher office again. Not unless there is a revolution and they are all frog-marched out of Washington and we start over.
Romney was my last choice amongst the GOP field. Under the circumstances I would've voted for anybody but Obama. I knew Romney was a less than ideal candidate, but at least he was pro-business, pro-military, pro-Israel, and generally pro-America. The fact that some FReepers tried to equate Romney with Obama to excuse their not voting for him was unconscionable!
If Romney had won the election, do you think he would be embracing our enemies, while disrespecting our greatest allies like Israel? Do you think power pants would be shutting down right now like they are in Georgia? Do you think he'd be threatening to sign EO’s to take away our guns? Do you think busnesses would be either shutting down, or letting go huge amounts of their workforce? NO!
The fact that some FReepers can sit here and call themselves “Patriots” when they chose NOT to help remove a known Marxist is beyond disgusting! And they can spare us the bull sh*t that their decision not to vote "didn't have any effect on the election outcome." They own at least part of the mess we're in right now. Now Obama can complete his destruction of America. He ows a huge thanks to those great "Patriots" on our side.
Nope. I talked to a bunch of rural non-voters. They were uninspired. Some were just lazy. A few were clueless. At my rural precinct turnout was the usual people who always vote with the exception of some fat chicks who we had never seen there before.
You were fooled by a rather small group with oversized egos, 1000x daily posters and ping lists. They had their fun and may think they matter but they don't.
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, of Johnson & Johnson fame.
Supporters of the Affordable Healthcare Act. Wonder if they’ll support Obama in his gun grab. Wouldn’t be surprised.
