Last month, the Journal News sparked a firestorm of protest when it published a mappable database of every licensed gun owner in Westchester and Rockland counties, north of New York City. The paper obtained the data—which New York state law explicitly and unambiguously demands be made public—through open records requests. The reaction was swift and furious—gun rights and privacy advocates published the names and addresses of the paper's editors in retaliation, and the paper (ironically) hired armed guards to protect against threats.

Laws need to be changed quickly! This only spreads hate among the gun haters and of course enlightens the criminals. Makes me want to get a gun while I can.

Will it take some court action or maybe a few deaths resulting in this kind of disclosure to change the law?

The published gun owners of Westchester need to do only two things:

1) Organize a Committee of Safety

2) and buy a lot of ammunition.

How to set up a Committee of Safety:

So when someone goes to your house cause you don’t have a gun you shoot them and get into trouble for shooting the intruder with an unregistered gun.....

So you are either in danger of having your gun stolen or a criminal if you have to use it to defend yourself....

We are all criminals or victims and that is the way big brother likes it...

Better to be Judged by 12 than carried by 6.

“Makes me want to get a gun while I can.”

That might be kind of difficult. And if you do, ammo might be a problem too.

Trouble is I want to be law abiding, it’s just that they make it so difficult (and usually more expensive). You would think that it would be the other way around.

I’m curious if anyone has made an unarmed map?

Agree! I expect that ammunition will be heavily regulated in the near future since they can’t seem to get a handle on limiting guns. Government always seeks to find a way to enslave the populace and of course directed by the left but with way too much Republican acquiescence.

I wonder if these newspapers have consulted their legal departments.

The first time there is a homicide in one of the unarmed homes and the defendant is caught & testifies he picked that home because he know the occupants were unarmed, that paper will go bankrupt.

This is really dumb. Given that guns are somewhat hard to get in NY, it is like giving crooks a map of where to steal their next weapon. Kind of like in the old days when people would have their vacation/honeymoon plans published in the Social section of their paper. They learned that was a good way to get the home burgled in their absence. Now such trips are only mentioned after the homeowner returns.

I keep this handy to remind my self of the big picture.

....................

From Ayn Rand's, Atlas Shrugged:

Did you really think we want those laws observed? said Dr. Ferris.

We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it...

There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals.

Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws

Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens?
What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt.

Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.

Expect home reloading equipment to also be heavily regulated! That does seem to be the way things are going.
