WHY GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS ARE OUR MAIN PROBLEM
Vanity | 1/8/2013 | Dick Bachert

Posted on 01/08/2013 11:10:15 AM PST by Dick Bachert

A story that plays into where we are now bears recitation. I’m working from memory here and some of the details may not be precisely correct but the take away message has stuck with me all these years.

In August, 1977, a small church in Louisville, Nebraska – Faith Baptist – was raided by armed agents of the state Department of Education for running a Christian school. The ostensible reason for the raid was that they were NOT adhering to the state “requirement” that ALL schools and teachers be “certified” by the state. A judge issued an order that the school be closed. They remained open and the raid ensued. The teachers and 17 students children were terrorized as they were held at gunpoint on the floor. The pastor, one Everett Sileven, was arrested and held in jail for some time.

Public pressure forced his release and he began a crusade the effects of which are still felt today in the Christian and home school communities.

Here’s the take away message about which I have the clearest memory: Pastor Sileven appeared on a TV debate program to defend his church school. Also there was an official of the Nebraska Department of Education. At one point, either the moderator or Pastor Siliven turned to the school bureaucrat and asked the real reason why the state had such a problem with their small church school?

Without missing a beat, through a sneer anyone who has visited the DMV will recognize, the bureaucrat declared (and I’m paraphrasing): “Because you are denying the state schools needed money. And because you are educating children outside the public school system, in the world we’re designing for the future, THEY WON’T FIT IN!”

Dwell on those last 4 words for a moment. If you’re curious about just what that world they were designing might look like, LOOK AROUND.

You’re living in it!!

There are good ones and not so good ones. If you BOTH didn’t need to work to support your lifestyle, why didn’t you devote the 3 hours a day (or more if you wished to) that the government schools are on record as providing in ACTUAL INSTRUCTION and LEARNING by HOME SCHOOLING HIM??

Just askin’

The “public school”, including the “charter school”, is BY FAR, the largest, most expensive, most subversive, and most destructive entitlement program in the country.

The “public school” is better understood as the “government school collective”.

It is silly to imagine that you can fix the public schools, because the very concept itself is collectivist.

Any child that comes out of the government school collective with their moral compass and common sense intact does so in spite of the government school indoctrination, not because of it.

If you want to win the culture war, have lots of children (see my tagline) and homeschool them or form your own school cooperative with your church or synagogue and like-minded friends and relatives.

Nobody loves your children more than you do.

Nobody can teach your children better than you can.

Nobody knows your children better than you do.

Your children would love nothing better than to be taught by you, if you start doing so before they are corrupted by the government school collective.

It is hypocritical for you to submit your children to an authority with whom you fundamentally disagree. And your children will know it.

If you have children, make whatever sacrifices you must to get them out of the public schools.

DO NOT FEED THE BEAST!

Especially not with your own children.

And DO NOT TAKE GOVERNMENT “EDUCATION” MONEY!

He that pays the piper calls the tune, and that’s especially true for any government entitlement program.

After what happened at Sandy Hook, parents really must start to think about putting their kids where their kids will be safe.

Does this mean we should not send our children to Malls/ shopping centers, Movies, or even churches?

Bought the book—”An Underground History of American Education” 10 years ago.....Gatto is the reason I studied curricula and John Dewey and the Prussian system= Great Thinker and good man-—although I think Gatto at the time of his book, that I read, didn’t think Dewey was intentionally trying to destroy the school system.

I think it was intentional because Dewey was a Fabian Socialist. Also, I just read “John Dewey and the Decline of American Education; How the Patron Saint of Schools has corrupted Teaching and Learning” by Henry T Edmondson III. It is well sourced, also. BK Eakman and Charlotte Iserbyt make a strong case for “intentional” also.

Good memory:

From this thread:

Peter Hoaglund - former Nebraska Senator and Humanist member of the Nebraska Board of Education said this in 1983 … “Fundamentalists have no right to indoctrinate their children in their beliefs. We are preparing their children for the year 2000 and life in a global one-world society and those children will not fit in!”

John Dunphy in The Humanist 1983 said “The battle for man-kind's future must be won in the classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as proselytizers of a new faith that will replace Christianity.”

I also found this video, which has content referencing the quote you mentioned.

Excellent Advice! It is absolutely true! John Stuart Mill stated that government schools will only make slaves for the State. Every time!

Never allow government to shape the worldview of your children. They want ‘group thinkers’—in other words, children who are ruled by emotions, will go along with the herd, and have their intellect full of mush and half-truths so they will be irrational-—and fall for whatever the government will tell them-—the Ministry of Truth.

We were warned in 1948 and Brave New World, but no one listened because they were being amused by ‘bread and circuses’ and had no time to tend to the real education of their own children.

You are right. Dr. Sileven was right. The judge even called Dr. Sileven from the jail one night to his chambers attempting to get him to compromise. The pastor refused. Most or all of those families left Nebraska for a while in a kind of exile, as the education authorities knew who they were, and would have kept after them, perhaps even taken the children into custody.

Decorated veteran Tim Lee, who lost both legs in Viet Nam, went to Faith Baptist Church, in full-dress Marine uniform, with pastors from around the country, and personally defied the authorities, cutting the state's padlock off the church. Brother Lee and the pastors went inside and held a worship service.

Public pressure prevented the authorities from stopping Brother Lee and the pastors, and things began to change in Nebraska.

Christian schools, in my experience, aren’t a panacea. It’s a real meat and potatoes education.
Limited foreign language classes.

That's rather sad; foreign languages are rather fun -- and learning different languages can/does impact the way you think because of the different approach to expressing thought (especially if you get to the point of thinking in that language, hardly likely in a 'limited' context). {I took Japanese, myself.}

Limited art classes including music.

That's a shame; in classical Christianity art was considered beautiful because God is beautiful, it's also rather telling that one of the Communist goals for undermining the US was to take over the arts and promote the ugly & debased as art.

And that's completely overlooking the fact that God is creative, literally and figuratively. (Video clip.)

Shop and auto shop? Nope.

Also a shame -- why do you think that people think that firearms, a fifteenth-century technology, require specialized tools? I would venture to say that it is because most have not been taught to work with their hands (i.e. shop class).

Eh. I am done I think. No matter what I do, it is an abomination to the majority of the ed threads that quickly degenerate into homeschool vs any other form of ecucation.

Until there is a chance for real discussion with conservatives, I am going to watch from the sidelines. The one person who refused to engage in fair debate has admitted defeat by refusing to engage any of us in fair discussion.

Besides, I have students who need me, in my classroom, and need my expertise in Latin.

Thanks for your response.

I agree that the destruction was intentional, part of the treachery of Fabian Socialism and its heir Cultural Marxism.

I have read Iserbyt, but Eakman and Edmonson are new to me. Thanks for the references.

Yes. I firmly believe it was intentional-—as they used Hegelian Dialectics to “progress” to the legal system and “educational” systems we have now——to actually destroy the minds of children and remove all Rationality from Rule of Law. There is no “Right Reason” concept from Natural Law-—in our Legal system. We have irrational, faulty logic which says Vice is Virtue now.

We have-——totally flipped “Good and Evil” and replaced Christian Ethics with Satanic/occult/unjustice (Vice) in the majority of the new generation-—exactly in the methods Lenin (who was Pavlov’s student and friend at one point) used-—total control of public schools and putting mother’s into the work force to be taxed and controlled and away from young children so they can be brainwashed into what “normal” is. MSM (Glee type programs promoting Evil as Good) teach morality to the children—the Marxist ideal—”feel good, do it because it IS good”-—which will collapse Western Civilization which was based on Christian Ethics. Freedom can not exist without Public Virtue which is the only reason to have schools—to promote Virtue (Western Civilization since Socrates-—until John Dewey and John Austin’s ideas kicked out Natural Law Theory-—basis of US Legal System.

What really gets me-—are these ignorant school teachers who allow the sexualization of Kindergarten children. (Jerry Brown promotes sodomy in Kindergarden and “heroes” such as Harvey Milk who was an actual pederast and advocated Man/Boy sex).

Every human being should know the importance of innocence in young children— so children can form normally and not be perverted.

All Sex ED was designed by Cultural Marxists and put in the public schools in 1970 to destroy Virtue (necessary for Freedom).

Lukacs-—the mind of a Marxist, who is exactly like our President and Jerry Brown:

You can send yu kids any where you want to send them, but, other than schools, you can go with them and be armed.

As for me and mine, where they/we are there are guns.

So, even the UN knows that taking guns from people does not reduce crime, yet they continue to push for gun control, registration and grabbing in the US, ever wonder why?

Did you listen to Rush today talking about pedophiles? Could that be one of the reasons they want us without guns?

Slapping a dirty old man or dirty old woman with a purse simply does not have the deterrent effect as a 12 gauge with double ought buck.

I keep looking back at my grandfather and great-grandfather. My great-grandfather worked as a light keeper (refueling, maintenance) along the shores of the Tennessee River. He carried (openly) a Smith & Wesson pistol. He lived in Realville, where all sorts of rough sorts cruised up and down the river and robbed, beat and killed any they could catch unaware who were visiting from Fantasyland. - He never had to shoot anybody to my knowledge.

“... And because you are educating children outside the public school system, in the world we’re designing for the future, THEY WON’T FIT IN!”” ( from the article)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Dick,

I am very concerned. Our nation's socialist-entitlement, single-payer, and compulsory schools are becoming more prison-like every year. Since the latest shooting it will only get worse. Children are now being **arrested**, handcuffed, and taken to the police station for behavior that was once seen as a learning opportunity and handled quietly within the school.

If the government treats children like prisoners, the risk is that we will raise up a population of citizens who are **comfortable** being prisoners of the government.

What will be the consequences for the future of freedom in our nation?

Why aren't conservatives so BLIND to the danger of government schooling. It must be shut down.
