The Washington Post is reporting that President Barack Obama is preparing to pull out all the stops in pushing his anti-gun agenda in what the newspaper calls “a far broader and more comprehensive approach” than the Clinton-era ban on semi-autos.
That ban expired in 2004 after a ten-year lifespan. Passage of the measure cost Democrats control of Congress in November 1994.
The moves will be sold as an effort to curb “gun violence,” but it appears there is much more in the president’s plan, including what the Post calls “measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers (and) track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database…”
“National database” just might sound like “national gun registration” to some firearms activists. The concept is almost certain to be toxic to the firearms community. Fear of impending gun restrictions has fueled a buying rush across the nation, and is reportedly swelling the ranks of gun rights organizations with thousands of new memberships.

If the Republican House passes ANY gun control measure, then those on FR who say “you have to stick with the Republicans because the Democrats are worse” are going to have little to support their argument. The Republicans have caved on taxes, caved on spending, are caving on homo-marriage, have all but surrendered on the abortion issue, and are setting us up for a cave on illegal immigration. Defending the right to bear arms is about all the GOP has left to distinguish themselves from the Dems.
There are far to many comments indicating the use of subterfuge to avoid confrontation and paying the price demanded for the maintenance of a natural right. Spinelessness begets the shame and multitudinous degradations inherent in enslavement. Thank God I was born with one!

Brilliant. That would have prevented the sad Sandy Hook Massacre, an incident that started when a troubled young man shot his own mother in the head four times while she lay in bed.
I hope the leftists go for too much because just as there was a “lady parts” vote this last election, with a million CCW permits issued in Florida, a surely as the sun rise, there will be a “lady gun” vote in future elections.
So, go ahead, tell Florida female CCW permitees that you plan on making it more difficult for them to have an effective means of self defense.
Once you carry for a while, you know a level of personal confidence that you will never let a petty politician ever take away.
It is only coming if a few nutjobs on the rightwing fringe start shooting people they don’t agree with and give Obama the excuse he so desperatly is looking for to take the rights of the rest of us away.

And considering that the establishment wants the power just as much as the democrats, they will and do see a free people having weapons as being somewhat troublesome.

I agree that he might, especially if he has "control" of the Supreme Court by the time the case gets there. If he is looking for a fight to the finish, bring it on.

Which is why no CCW law has been repealed, and why the "Liberal Fascists" in Illinois were trying to accomplish this before they had to institute a CCW law.
And Joe Citizen is collecting is own data base of addresses, names and location for his own payday for when the golden opportunity arises.
If he/she is not, they are not preparing and will be well behind the curve.
