White House Weighs Broad Gun-Control Agenda in Wake of Newtown Shootings

A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.

To sell such changes, the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses. White House aides have also been in regular contact with advisers to New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I), an outspoken gun-control advocate who could emerge as a powerful surrogate for the Obama administration’s agenda.

SNIP

In addition to potential legislative proposals, Biden’s group has expanded its focus to include measures that would not need congressional approval and could be quickly implemented by executive action, according to interest-group leaders who have discussed options with Biden and key Cabinet secretaries. Possibilities include changes to federal mental-health programs and modernization of gun-tracking efforts by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

SNIP

Obama’s advisers have calculated that the longer they wait, the more distance there is from the Newtown massacre and the greater the risk that the bipartisan political will to tackle gun violence will dissipate.

“This is not something that I will be putting off,” Obama said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” in an interview broadcast last Sunday.

At the White House meeting, Stanek said, “the vice president indicated that there was a very short timeline for him to get back to the president with his recommendations because the American public has a short memory.”

“came to his house right after he murdered his mother”

For all we know, the guy went apechit after someone came in and shot his mother in the face. IIRC, there was a story early on about his father having been murdered.

I don’t get the driving across town. It’s the timeframe, the story about his brother, LIBOR, the extra people, the LACK of video/helicopters/reporters on scene.

It stinks.

Not worrried about Obama and Biden’s working group.
I am worried Boehner and his fellow spineless ‘Pubbies who will likely aid and abet their crimes against the Republic.

I hope they don’t fold, but if they do, it’s war. I am not giving up ANY of my weapons.

” For every anti gun measure the democrats try, we need a pro gun measure that would ease existing restrictions on guns.”

I’ve begun to think that also. Forget this backing up crap...trying to limit the losses of gun rights to less than the gun-moaners want. It’s time to start demanding the complete abolition of every gun law short of the 2nd Amendment.

I want to be able to go down to the local Mom & Pop gun store and buy a full auto weapon...with a grenade launcher. Bill O’Reilly says the “folks” don’t need a bazooka (yep, he said it). Well, screw Bill....I want a bazooka.

I would not put any bets on the RINOcrats doing anything to protect our rights from the communist regime in Sodom on the Potomac. They ARE PART OF THE PROBLEMS!

“...the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses...” How typical of a crminal regime: threatening extortion against businesses!

Wal-Mart and others had better consider our power to crush them. I will NEVER buy from Wal-Mart again if they in any way support gun control legislation, and the same goes for any other company that tries to take my rights. I imagine they would lose a substantial fraction of their customer base over this fatal error, and I don't forget.

Not giving a damned thing up.
Nor being photographed & finger-printed.
I'm not a criminal, never been arrested, nothing but a speeding ticket.
I bought only what was/is legal, now they want to change the rules.
They havent done jack sh_t about all the firearms related crime in Detroit & Chicago in all this time,
and those were committed by CRIMINALS..why havent they solved that first?
Nah, its just EASIER to make law-abiding citizens give up their firearms!
Doesnt do a damned thing to the criminals, just disarms the law-abiding!
How in the hell does that make any sense? IT DOESNT!

MOLON LABE !

I disagree, if the GOP house folds on this, the government tries to take away our guns, then you have to look at the odds. 280 million guns, 80 million plus gun owners. You only need about 2 - 3% getting pissed and make a stance and you have 1.6M to 2.4M people with 5.6M to 8/4M guns. Odds are in our favor...

“I have no idea why people are getting so worked up about this. unless king barack issues another one of his rotal decrees, he hasn’t got the votes in the house. whatever mr. 51% is thinking, he can’t get it passed. not democratically, anyway.”

Just like he didn’t have the votes to get the tax increases passed, eh?

My guess is that 95% of the ‘rats in the House will vote for gun confiscation if Obama tells them to. Maybe 100%.

If he can intimidate a relatively few “moderate” Republican House members to go along — he wins.

The Senate probably won’t even be an issue. The Pubbies there won’t try to put up a fight.

Or does everyone still think I’m a kook?

Nope. The only entity in the world that can murder you, your family and anybody else they want get away with it clean is the government. Look at Fast and Furious as one indirect example. Not even the Mafia can get away with murder in every case.

Personally I don’t think Oblahblah has a chance to get anything meaningful put into place but we should all be contacting our legislators and putting them on notice anyway.

The Executive Order will breach the Constitution and be grounds for impeachment. Last time Congress attempted such action, they all got the heaveho in the next election, and the nut job guy blew up the Federal Building in Oklahoma. Does the White House really want to declare war on the American citizens? It will be the end of the US Federal Government system if such an action is attempted.

Raise taxes, breach the Constitution by seizing guns (while giving AK47s to Drug Lords and Al Queda in Benghazi and Syria), and then invade the USA with illegals while spending more Trillions on Who knows What?

The response will be the same as seen when Tyranny is imposed on a free country: prolonged resistance at every level, and ultimately, regime change. Nationhood will disintegrate as a result of the seizure of firearms. Some states may accept it, but most won’t.

These are lessons of history. The White House cannot change human nature. Americans will not freely submit to Tyranny.

You are right. I’ve already contacted my representative’s office. Didn’t bother with the senators (both RATS), though.
