23? Wow, that is not a multiple posting, that is nearly a sitcom in the making. I would have tuned in just to watch the carnage.

I noticed my check was slightly smaller this pay period (by $26), but I don't understand why, since the pay period ended before the end of the year (12/29), so I'm going to be checking with my company's payroll department. I'm expecting about a $70 or so reduction in take-home pay, per pay period, due to the resumption of the normal, mandatory ponzi-scheme "donation."

Regarding understandable complaints about higher SS taxes, it's too bad that many citizens have evidently not been taught the Constitution and its history for at least the last 60+ years. Otherwise, when Constitution-ignoring socialist FDR encouraged Congress to establish SS in the 1930s, the states could have easily killed the idea by noting that, not only does Section 8 of Article I of the Constitution say nothing about programs like SS, but Justice John Marshall had clarified in general that Congress cannot lay taxes in the name anything that it cannot justify under Section 8.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." --Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

So any SS taxes that we pay can arguably be regarded as punishment for not knowing that the Founding States drafted the Constitution to not only limit Congress's powers, but to also limit federal taxes.

On the other hand, if the states actually wanted federal SS, then the states can always use their unique, constitutional Article V power to ratify an amendment to the Constitution which grants Congress the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for a program like SS. (Note that Obamacare likewise required an appropriate constitutional amendment.) The problem is that Article V is undoubtedly the best kept secret of the unconstitutionally big federal government, widespread ignorance of the Constitution not helping the situation.

It is WHEN you are paid, not WHEN you are paid for that counts.

I haven’t seen a change in my paycheck.... because I don’t have a regular paycheck. I am “involuntarily self-employed” at the moment.

I feel the same way.
Can’t stand to drive the 5 miles to Berkeley.
Other place I hate to go is the “Berkeley Bowel er Bowl”.
