Do NOT let this camel get it's nose under the tent!!!

This starts like all the other new taxes by taxing a small constituentcy and then balloons to ensnare the rest of the public in something that will give the government power to monitor your movements and further, will hit people entrepreneurs who make their livings in cars or trucks with a huge economic bite!!!

Again! This is leading toward the UN Agenda 21's push toward the mis-named "Smart Growth" to slow down urban sprawl by implementing a "commuter tax" that also kills the American dream of a sprawling estate/home in the country!!!

This will kill a whole bunch of GANG-GREEN birds with just one gall stone!!!

It's also a continuation of the wretched "War on the West" since we don't wish to crowd into urban compaction with miserable mass transit, walking commutes in deep blue cities and as they put it... "getting America back on it's feet!"

Anything that moves, tax it. And many things that don't move too. For instance, in the 20 years I've lived in my house, it hasn't moved an inch and though it has been paid for for about 10 years, I still don't "own" own it.

Don't laugh!!! The big blue states are already working on a tax on those who flee their extreme revenue sucking like New York City and State already have in place!

CA is already trying to make it a reality because they are in a free-fall brought on by MonuMental GovernMental EnvironMental squandering of money!!!

Yes, they've been angling at metering and taxing our private wells here in CA, as well. They've grown fiendish, I tell ya!!!

Wow... you are in favor of a tax where your every move is taxed? Talk about big brother interfering in your life. You must be kidding?

A mileage tax is a tax levied for road usage. It would be the closest thing we have to a tax that actually charges users for the wear-and-tear on roads they are directly responsible for. The major problem with this kind of scheme is administrative expenses. Which is why an unfair flat tax regardless of mileage on electric vehicles is likely to be the "solution".

I don’t think they are in any way serious about “Global Warming”. The carbon tax is simply another excuse to tax, and now the per mile tax is to grab those who evade that tax.

They should charge the asshole bike riders. They are the ones who are using the roads without paying for them.

Actually we already are taxed on our use of the roads via gasoline taxes... which are pretty much exorbitant and never are used to repair roads. Mileage taxes begin to invade privacy by collecting individual data... erodes liberty. Not a conservative solution at all. Again.. Wow... I hope you are kidding.

I think in California we pay enough tax on our income to fix roads and infrastructure, but if we are to be taxed when we purchase gas - then those using electricity should also be taxed. If they plug in at home they are already taxed... look at the electric bill.

Not only do they use them, but cities like Long Beach, CA have gone to extremes in reworking the roadways to accommodate them!

Typical of the Dims - “reward” folks for “saving” money/energy/environment, then tax them extra to offste the “reward” because the real bottom line is that the gov’t has a voracious appetite for our money.

A $100.00 yearly tax on clown cars?

Anyone with common sense can calculate how much tax they paid on their gasoline and diesel fuel in a year....and it will be one hell of a lot more than $100.00 yearly.

Another thing that will be popping up over the hill is the expense of disposing of the hazardous batteries of these motorized shopping carts. Who pays the bill for that?

The idea is not a bad one, but there should be a corresponding reduction in the gas tax to reflect the % of electric vehicles. Unfortunately, that won’t happen.

I think we're on slightly different wavelengths here. You're thinking in terms of subdermal microchip implantation, and I'm thinking mileage taxes collected in arrears at the annual vehicle inspection based on odometer readings that are recorded anyway. I've also said that it's a good idea as long as gasoline taxes are eliminated.

It IS fiendish: It is premised on the notion that there is no such thing as private property and that everything—and I do mena EVERYTHING—ioherrently belongs to the government.

The tax and spend green vultures in charge of Oregone have been playing around with this for at least a decade.

Soon they will get this data from many of our Auto insurance companies.

Progressive has this device that monitors how one drives and the mileage driven each quarter.

Many other companies have a discount if you drive less than their average customer. This is voluntary with the exception of the first odometer reading. The first reading is conducted at the insurance company’s local office. Then you send by email you quarterly mileage.

The near sighted ones say “this is just for insurance!”

Yeah sure buck! Each insurance company is hooked up with that state’s DMV to get info re tickets, DUIs and ?.

If the state asks for the mileage of the insured vehicles, the insurance companies will comply.

As a conservative, this may be the correct way. Why should we as gentle low mileage driving seniors pay the same as the women from hell drivers in their big SUVS roaring around town delivering their kids to school and other activities while their husbands drives the biggest pickup/suv they can afford to buy. Those vehicles and the big trucks tear up our roads faster than our smaller vehicles.
