Bachmann is about Bachmann. Sure, she’s a “conservative”, as are all the ‘others’, but the ‘office’ is more important than the ‘principle’.
Perry was and is not against border fencing. His position, which is correct IMO, is that it is impractical to try to fence the entire border between Texas and Mexico. The fence we have now does not stop the flow or even significantly slow down illegals crossing the border. Additionally, there are substantial issues with closing off Texas ranchers’ access to their water supply (the Rio) and effectively ceding the physical territory between the fence and the middle of the river to Mexico.
Who, historically, would have been acceptable to you? i’m curious...

We have all been through the argument over the fence and as always, fences are proven to work. Israel attests to that. It’s a matter of patrolling them. just as was the original plan when GWB approved it, congress funded it and the dems later cut it.
And I have spoken with a number of your fellow Texans that say Perry is far from the ideal conservative and like myself, question whether he’s a conservative at all. I admit he’s great on some issues like land and energy. but he is abysmal on personal rights (the HPV fiasco) and his delusion about ‘strategic fencing’.
And just to reiterate the fence thing and practicality, if the Chinese could do it three times longer over terrain that makes a mountain goat wet itself 3000 years ago... by hand no less...with ROCKS...and hold of the freaking Mongol Horde, I somehow think we could do it over mostly flat land with the help of Catepillar and John Deere, keeping the drug lords and illegal aliens at bay.
If we can land men on the moon and send 2 satellites to the edge of our solar system, we can overcome the technical challenges in hammering razor wire and chain link into dirt and rock, while allowing for irrigation and animal migration.
If we can make airplanes invisible to radar and live for months in orbit, we can figure out a way to stop liberals from stopping us from defending our country. Because as we already see the bodies pile up on the border, the day is quickly coming when people are going to demand that fence with no care to ‘practicality’ or who gets upset by it’s existence.
It’s simply a matter of will.
Yes, we’ve had the argument about fencing. In particular, you & I had a very productive, polite conversation about it during the primaries. In the end, we simply disagree about the feasibility of building a fence along the Texas-Mexico border, much of which is divided by water. Neither Israel nor China built walls that cut off a very large section of their land from a significant water source. Building a wall between Arizona-Mexico and New Mexico-Mexico makes some sense.

Honestly, I’d be perfectly satisfied with the military posted at regular (short) intervals and given the FULL authority to shoot on border violation. Solvs a lot of issues but raises others.
People always manage to convince the masses that grannies and dead babies will be the result. That and the government that authorizes it will quickly restrict it to uselessness as they did in putting the NG on desk duty.
So for me, the fence represents not only a physical barrier that would stop the vast majority, but is a permanent structure that cannot be easily made irrelevant by liberal whim. One it’s there, it’s there.
All a mental exercise at this point as Obama is building express lanes, not fences. And so we fall as a country.
Simple solution to the river issue. Annex 1/2 mile on the other side of the river and build the wall there. Tell Mexico to pound sand if they complain. Mexico’s biggest fear is that 20 million of their citizens would return home and end up unemployed. America’s leaky border is what prevents Mexico from having to make serious decisions about their own economy. Just imagine how nice it would be for you if America could export their millions of unemployed/welfare cases north of the border and make we Canadians pay for to support them. You’d solve your fiscal crisis in about 12 months. It would actually be cheaper for America if your border patrol picked up illegals and took them to the Canadian border, rather than sending them back home to sneak in again.
That works for me as well.
But when we do water diversion projects every single day, it’s a simple matter to scale them up. Any grad student in hydroengineering could come up with the plan that is doable, cost effective and works.
But for whatever reason, people just can’t see it or think it’s too expensive.
The numbers have been run and posted on the web RE cost of illegals vs cost of fence. The fence pays for itself in a year or two. The rest of that cash henceforth is money saved and reinvested to the American worker/infrastructure.
But I ‘guess’ we are swimming in money and can afford to be the World Bank to Mexico.
It’s simply a matter of will. And most Americans simply do not have it. They have not yet personally felt the pain of the illegal invasion. Well they have via higher costs, but it’s just one of many costs they pay without thinking about them..just complaining.
When the body count rises to uncoverable levels, as it has been steadily doing; When families in more northern climes start losing children and family members at a faster rate than now via unlicensed drunk illegals, rapes and murders, we will see a change in attitude.
Bottom line - not enough liberals have died yet. Pathetic but true.
The only way to punish the GOP is to tell them that you will never donate to them again, and don’t. If there are enough conservatives on the GOP’s various mailing lists, who do this, it will make an impact, esp. at the local level.
Also, promise that you will no longer do their envelope stuffing, delivering political material door-to-door, put up signs in your yards, etc.
Hurt them in such a manner that it does hurt. The GOP is now going into the local/state level political arena rather than focusing solely on the national races. I know because me daughter is a rising local/state conservative activist and I help her with strategy.
Time to drop support for any RINO, the national GOP, and Boehner and throw your support to the Tea Party type groups (that are legit and sane).
This is going to hurt the GOP in the long run and help the true conservatives immediately. The Democrats fear the conservatives. One of our slogans should be “Fear the Tea Party”.
I am personally VERY disappointed in Michele Bachmann.
Exactly. Especially since she obviously squeaked back into office for her re-election this time. I'm not sure I would go so far to accuse her of being RINO based on this. She just understands the way power works on the Hill. I can still blame her, but the blame is not hers alone. Boehner should have been voted out in a landslide. That's one reason I submitted my paperwork to leave the Republican Party on the 2nd of January 2013. There are many more: Arrogance, stupidity, and mainly a distinct loss of conservative focus. I left after 37 years of being a Republican. My entire adult life. Actually, I see it as the party left me... a long time ago. Now I'm NPA.
This is why we DON’T win.... we eat our own.... we never learn our lessons.... now everyone in this thread is in full blown panic mode. The reason why the dRATS survive every “bump in the carpet” is because no matter what goes wrong they act as though they expected it to go down exactly that way.

Conservatives will only win when conservatives get politically active and fight. Conservatives just don't make gov't our religion like rinos and dems do.
I suggest telling the republican party to GFT, and let them crumble! It's one of the ways that has to happen to start over. Until rinos are removed from power positions, NOTHING gets done!
Based upon the way we conservatives behave, between the name-calling and vitriolic comments we make about other Republicans, that easily becomes the narrative for the Democrats... so they never need to discuss the issues... they can just keep everyone (media) focused on how we Republicans are not unified, etc.... my point is, we don’t know how to effectively organize our strategy. Having petty in-fighting doesn’t make us stronger... it doesn’t mean that our concerns about our party are wrong, we just look petty in how we go about addressing them.

Good question.
There may actually be a good answer. Clearly, Boehner did **SOMETHING** to convince some very angry conservative Republicans to vote for him, and we might actually like the terms of that deal.
Considering how much of a nuisance Bachmann has made herself to the Republican leadership, I'm guessing Boehner had to offer something pretty significant to get her to agree.
Time will tell. I'm not prepared to throw in the towel this early in the game.
