Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz is moving forward to establish procedures for removing voters from registration rolls if they can't prove citizenship, with a public hearing scheduled for today that is expected to draw critics who want to stop the change.
Schultz's proposed voter-suppression rules will unfairly target Latino immigrants, intimidate voters from exercising their rights and could result in voters' being purged from the rolls without cause, said Ana Belen Mancebo, a member of the government watchdog group Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement.

We’ve got the same brand of SOS here in Michigan as well. We do love Ruth Johnson.
Matt Schultz is one of the VERY FEW good Republicans in an otherwise GOP-e/RINO Infested State(Steve King being another that’s about it).
Sigh. This tired lie, repeated.
Latin immigrants who ARE citizens know exactly where there citizenship documents are located, and are proud to prove it.
Everytime the Democrats and liberals holler about Gun Control, Magazine limits, grandfathering, Tax Stamps for weapons, each Republican politician or official in this country should correspondingly implement a “draconian” rule designed to get illegal voters off the voting rolls. Tit for Tat.
Birth Certificates, Drivers Licenses, Original Social Security Cards (NOT Numbers), Government Photo IDs, NICS checks, and yes FINGERPRINTS, the whole nine yards. It’s what they made me do to get my CCW license.
For those American Citizens that would have to re-prove their elligibility, it is the price of true freedom from illegal invasion and corruption of our government.
typo: “ *their* citizenship documents are...” English really is my first language.
good on him. i had to read the first sentence as i inferred from the title they were going to let non-citizens legal and illegal vote. i think the freak state does that for local elections because it isn’t fair the illegal criminals (but i repeat myself) living in the community and paying sales taxes don’t have a say.
we have been californicated in colorado and our entire state government is infested with dhimmi libtard vermin.
I believe we should give the liberals everything they want and quit voting. Let the nation collapse and let's start over again with whoever survives the conflict. This is not saracasm. I'm serious. I belive that I should plan to start supporting liberal causes and help the nation head to the bottom as fast as possible. Apparently, that's what most of the people want.
The only thing that would change my mind is for 20-30 people to PM me and say they'll meet me prior to the next school board meeting at this particularly onerous public school and raise hell because of their liberal policies. Waiting...waiting...waiting...not going to happen. If you're not going to come together and start protesting stupid stuff, then you're going to have stupid stuff, so stop complaining about it.
“unfairly target Latino immigrants” is “code” for WORTHLESS Mexicans.
righteous!!! And all states should eliminate early voting days if they have them. Vote on election day or don’t complain! Too too much fraud in early voting. If you are too stupid to show up on election day then this is your problem not mine
Matt can’t be fired, he’s an elected official.
Reps and Dems are tied in Iowa registration, so I’d say support for him is good.
While I don’t believe much good will come out of Washington awhile, state politics are different. Sorry about what is happening at your school, but something that small isn’t going to make me lay down for liberals.
VERY good man!
God bless him.
It's not that small. That's only the last school I taught at before changing careers. Every school is full of liberals. Seems like just about no one cares about the problem.
And JUST how MANY times has YOUR name been on a School Board Election Ballot(mine has/I lost)? My name will be on there AGAIN.
Tom Harkin is NOT happy.
Again, sorry for the difficulties with liberals down there, but here in Iowa we are moving things in the right direction. Not giving up on that now.
DOJ AG Eric Holder’s lawsuit coming in 3, 2, 1......
Is it a crime to be registered to vote and not be a citizen? Then press charges and deport also.
Iowa not subject to many laws which apply only to the Old South.
Soros’s SOS project paying off in SPADES!!!
Why should enforcing the law be barter for stomping on a primary constitutional right?
I understand what you’re saying and I agree with you. The amendment needs not discussion at all amongst rational people.
However, we don’t deal with rational people; we deal with people who have an agenda focused at utlimate, total control of our lives, and they just happen to have currently seized on gun control again.
My response to their blather and control quests is to confuse the issue. Tie them up in new laws, rules, regulations in state courts, take their minds off the “Newtown Prize” and to defend something they think they’ve already won. Meanwhile ALL representatives on the conservative side refusing to even discuss the merits or demerits of the Second Amendment.
not letting foreigners vote in our election is “voter suppression”??
Did you read the article?
Solution to this kind of stuff is to do the same required paperwork and instant background check required to buy a gun from an FFL everytime someone wants to vote.
After all, it’s not an infringement on owning a gun, how can it be an infringement on voting?
The left cannot stand against it unless they want to repeal the Brady law... first.
Good for the Iowa SoS.
Every illegal vote disenfranchises someone’s legal vote.
What some would consider common sense others argue against as racist. Considering all the evil that the left promotes and calls good I myself question why the left promotes breaking the law as it applies to illegal immigration with for example sanctuary cities etcetera?
Are the promoters of homosexual sex and abortion truly just misunderstood saints? Could the community organized group of illegal immigrants really be nothing more than a group in need of charity? Charity that the left by government imposition force others to provide them?
I myself feel that there is more to this leftist collective government benevolence than simply charity at the expense of others.
If there is one thing I have learned after closely watching President Obama during his four year community organizing campaign for reelection it is that the special interests he promotes and rewards are those that vote for him. President Obama is all politics all the time. All politics all the time you say? Not too difficult to accept when one considers that community organizing is politics -[it] is attaining power by fabricating and exploiting illegitimate divisions, creating and disparaging oppressors, and championing the mob rule of victims.
President Obama was a politician before he was ever elected to any office. Shocking? President Obama wielded political power before ever holding an elected position or occupying a political office. I would suggest that it necessarily follows that the office President Obama occupies is not one which he serves the public within but rather one which serves him and the special interests that put him in it and keep him in it.
In my opinion, it is quite evident that President Obama does not serve the country -he serves himself.
There is a reason that President Obama and those on the left do not like this citizen only voter initiative and it has nothing to do with racism.
You can copy our AZ State Bill 1070 on illegals if we can copy the voter ID act that you come up with.
If Comrade Tom Harkin is NOT happy, I’ve happy. If Comrade and fake Vietnam veteran Tom Harkin would drop dead yesterday, I WOULD BE HAPPY.
Please, God, this is a new year. MAKE ME HAPPY!
PS: Dear God. I’ve already dropped dead once. Did my time. I’m back. Now even out the score, please.
I seen him awhile back. You might get your wish, he ain’t looking too good.
Obviously your job here is not done yet!
