Under Sharia Law Matthew, Mark, Luke and John wont be “on a list approved by the government” in this country...

“How about Lakeisha or Shaquilla?”

Having worked in the “inner city” for most of my so called professional career, a recurring dream is that I am the principal of an all black high school and I will have to read the names of all the graduates. Make that a nightmare.

For the record, neither of them are guilty, even with little to no makeup. Also, they do seem to draw a “light breeze”.

I imagined being a teacher in such a school. On the first day of class, I would have each of the students recite their first name and would then Anglicize it (or convert it to whatever comes close to being an actual name). I would tell them this is their grown-up name that will get them through life, get them a real job and keep them out of prison. Of course, I’d be fired and accused of being racist for doing nothing more than trying to help improve the students. If we had teachers actually willing to do that, it would go a long way into rescuing a culture set adrift to the lowest common denominator.

This time, the panel turned it down on the grounds that the word Blaer takes a masculine article, despite the fact that it was used for a female character in a novel by Iceland's revered Nobel Prize-winning author Halldor Laxness.

Okay, so in this country, name Blaer is forbidden, but Halldor Laxness is hunky dory? Is everyone in Iceland named like characters in a murder mystery?

“Blaer was not on a list approved by the government”.

Can you imagine? So much control that you have to select a pre-approved name? As much as I chuckle at Latrina, Q’Landa and such.... parents have the right to pick their own child’s name. Sheesh.....

This girl's name is Sigrún. It means 'secret victory'. She's the band's clarinet player.

Nothing to do with this topic, except interesting names and Iceland.

Oh I can see that. I see and hear it at my kids' school. And we are just city...not inner city.

Okay, I don't know how you came across that, but that was pretty bad. Here are some Icelandic guys doing some better music:

Sigur Ros and Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, Colours
