BREAKING: Illinois Bill to Ban All Modern Firearms
The Truth About Guns ^ | Robert Farago | January 1, 2013

UPDATE: Click here for the latest details on the gun ban and ammunition magazine registration bill, which includes new regulations for gun ranges.

Press release:

“The ISRA has learned from a credible source that Illinois Senate President John Cullerton [above] will introduce a so called ‘assault weapons’ ban on Wednesday when the legislature returns for its ‘lame duck’ session. Cullerton hopes to ramrod the bill through and get it to Governor Quinn for signature by Friday. If he is successful at doing so, nearly every gun you currently own will be banned and will be subject to confiscation by the Illinois State Police . . .

“Based on what we know about Cullerton’s bill, firearms that would be banned include all semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Pump action shotguns would be banned as well. This would be a very comprehensive ban that would include not only so-called ‘assault weapons’ but also such classics as M1 Garands and 1911-based pistols. There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering. You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the State Police to avoid prosecution.”

TTAG’s sources tell us there will be two bills: one for semi-automatic rifles, lever guns, shotguns and handguns with certain features (e.g., threaded barrels); and one for ammunition magazine capacity.

Mags would be limited to 10 rounds and owners of existing magazines holding more than 10 rounds would have to register them with the state police.

One [non-ISRA] gun guy on the front lines in the Land of Lincoln tells TTAG that the odds of the bills going through are 50 – 50. He advises gun owners both in and out of state to call Senate President Cullerton at 217 782 2000 and/or find another legislator to pester at ilga.gov.

“If gun owners around the country melt the phone lines in the next three days we can push this thing back . . . that would be a tremendous morale boost ahead of federal legislation.”

Let’s light this candle...

Unbelievable how fast things look like to be racing to this point. People are getting pushed to the breaking point by Obama and the ruthlessly corrupt MSM.

While they’re at it, they ought to ban drugs as well. That way, Illinois will be free of both guns and drugs. Oh wait, . . .

If this becomes law there should be economic consequences for every person and business that doesn’t proactively fight against this tyranny.

Sometimes these hysterical headlines upset the stressed out instead of inspiring constructive thought and actions.

People in IL, not known for mental acumen, will truly support this sweeping bill. They want to be “protected” by the government.

The bad guys just won in Illinois. No surprise, though, considering the trash that has come out of there!

You can’t even drive through there or fy over there with your guns. I recently went hunting in SD. We stopped for gas in my plane in IL. The line guy told us horror stories of TSA hanging at the airports during hunting season and inspecting airplanes stopping for fuel. If they found “bad” guns per IL. law it was hell for the hunters/pilots. We skipped IL. on the way home.

Moronsville at work! You could pass his bill and the thugs would still be killing each other. They, obviously, do not care about any gun law, let alone the statute book in general. There is no reason to live in Illinois, thanks to the Democrats.

Time to move to...

That is a recipe for concentrating 2A proponents in more concentrated areas for easier disarming.

Instead, I think it better to resist everywhere possible, and reserve moving for other reasons. We need to deal with the disarming stupidity EVERYWHERE it raises its unconstitutional head.

Good job by the State Legislators helping to continue to convince out-of-staters to NOT move there. Not to visit...

Ain't that the truth? I was last in Chicago in 2005, when I had to be there (estate settlement). Vowed to never come back to that state...and I haven't and never will.

This is a trial run at the state level for Feinstein’s bill or zero’s EO. Let’s see how they will go after the resistors. If enough resist, they can’t SWAT team everybody??? Gun owners might also consider buying some warehouse space in WI. If gun owners dare to go down, they might want to make a stand with all their weapons and friends at one location and ambush the SOBs.
Second and fourth amendment are up in smoke in ILL.

“They’re allowed”

Why? Why hasn’t the 2nd amendment been “incorporated” along with other sections of the Bill of Rights judges arbitrarily prefer?
