BREAKING: Illinois Bill to Ban All Modern Firearms
The Truth About Guns ^ | Robert Farago | January 1, 2013

UPDATE: Click here for the latest details on the gun ban and ammunition magazine registration bill, which includes new regulations for gun ranges.

Press release:

“The ISRA has learned from a credible source that Illinois Senate President John Cullerton [above] will introduce a so called ‘assault weapons’ ban on Wednesday when the legislature returns for its ‘lame duck’ session. Cullerton hopes to ramrod the bill through and get it to Governor Quinn for signature by Friday. If he is successful at doing so, nearly every gun you currently own will be banned and will be subject to confiscation by the Illinois State Police . . .

“Based on what we know about Cullerton’s bill, firearms that would be banned include all semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Pump action shotguns would be banned as well. This would be a very comprehensive ban that would include not only so-called ‘assault weapons’ but also such classics as M1 Garands and 1911-based pistols. There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering. You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the State Police to avoid prosecution.”

TTAG’s sources tell us there will be two bills: one for semi-automatic rifles, lever guns, shotguns and handguns with certain features (e.g., threaded barrels); and one for ammunition magazine capacity.

Mags would be limited to 10 rounds and owners of existing magazines holding more than 10 rounds would have to register them with the state police.

One [non-ISRA] gun guy on the front lines in the Land of Lincoln tells TTAG that the odds of the bills going through are 50 – 50. He advises gun owners both in and out of state to call Senate President Cullerton at 217 782 2000 and/or find another legislator to pester at ilga.gov.

“If gun owners around the country melt the phone lines in the next three days we can push this thing back . . . that would be a tremendous morale boost ahead of federal legislation.”

Ban away.

I’ve already banned Illinois from any travel plans.

I think Baraq should send the ATF into the Chicago ghetto next summer to disarm all felons.

“Stay, stand-up and fight it. Running from it will not fix it.”

Some folks say “They won't get my guns! Why, I'll bury them in the back yard”, I say “you might as well throw your Bible in on top of them because that's what their coming for next!!!
To me it's completly baffling how such a small minority can ride roughshod over the rest of us. Back in the day, When they said “Give Me Liberty or give me death” by God, they MEANT IT !!! What a nation of pu$$ys we have become...There are a whole lot of lessons a whole lot of people must learn all over again. And man, its going to hurt.. I'm an old guy and I HATE the idea of going to my grave with this bunch of weenies running our county...Somehow I feel like it's my fault...And I'm ashamed...

I hear ya Brother. I was having a conversation with what I thought was a stand up friend of mine the other day. I asked, “What will you do when the BATF or DHS show up on your doorstep with their flashbangs and knock knock toys at 2am in the morning and demand your weapons? Will you take down their line?”

He says No, I have my family to think about and will probably hand my weapons over. I came uncorked on him and insisted why would you disarm yourself and become subjugated and he said to live to fight another day.....

I replied there is a whole lot more things worse than dieing and be subjugated is one of them.

Do not believe we will be talking anymore, especially about things that matter. He is not the stand up guy I thought he was.

Illinois should succeed from Chicago. Illinois is conservative, it’s too bad they have to have that yoke around their neck.

We have a better chance of seeing peace between the imaginary “Palestinian” people and the Israelis before we see that. Or perhaps, we’ll see the Cleveland Browns win 2 Superbowls back to back first.

What Illinois is proposing to do is a clear and present danger to everyone in the surrounding states.”

Obviously I don't advocate states invading each other and seizing their legislative assemblies, but it's patently obvious that most of rural Illinois outside metro Chicago thinks the state government is out of touch. Can we Missourians get together with Kentuckians and sponsor a petition by Illinoisans living south of Springfield, Ill., to leave Illinois and join either Missouri or Kentucky? Maybe northwestern Illinois would like to be part of Iowa or Wisconsin.

That would leave the Chicago-Springfield corridor to its own devices. They deserve each other.

Only two main problems with that.

First, I'd feel really bad for people living in Wheaton and DuPage County in the Chicago suburbs. Maybe Iowa would be willing to annex all the way to the Chicago city limit if a strong wall could be built at the edge of town.

Second, I guess that means we'd have to take East St. Louis. I see no way around that. But maybe with widespread gun ownership promoted by Missouri gun rights, the legitimate inner-city businessmen in East St. Louis would be able to defend themselves and fix the place.

Yeah, I know this is crazy talk. Won't happen. But it would be nice to realign certain key liberal states where most of the people outside the big cities don't have a functioning government that represents their views.

The East St. Louis problem is simple ~ bus tickets!

Or, use the example of the Upper Peninsula ~ it's not exactly attached to MIchigan. Build a wall around it ~ maybe set up a controlled corridor like they did with the autobahns to Berlin.

There are so terribly many options it boggles minds.

Still, something must be done to isolate the Chicago contamination from the rest of the Midwest.

Gun control is effectively about a move by the elite, who can afford their own well armed security, telling other Americans “you can’t have the right to the same self defense as do we”. It’s the first official step in creating a caste system of elites and commoners and is an obvious attempt at class warfare.

We’ve allowed this gang of relatively few urban elites who use their money to influence politicians in a way that does harm to our Bill of Rights, and ability to defend our own households and families.

@ apoliticalone: We agree. A small group of political elites have taken over our political process and need to be voted out.

@ Muawiyah, you may not be aware that my father was from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Most people from East St. Louis — or for that matter, most people from my part of the Missouri Ozarks — would not survive a winter in Northern Michigan.

And as far as people from the Upper Peninsula tolerating outsiders from anywhere except northern Wisconsin or northern Minnesota, well, let's just say people in the Ozarks have been nicer to me than UPers will be to most outsiders. Having a large Army installation here in the Ozarks opens up people's world to outsiders in ways that don't usually happen in rural America.

If you think Southerners like their guns, you should see people from the Upper Peninsula. The same could be said of most of Northern Michigan, not just the UP. My mother was from Traverse City but hunted regularly in the Upper Peninsula with her father while she was growing up. That was in a day when educated women simply did **NOT** do such things, and back in the 1950s she was probably the only girl among her elite sorority sisters at Michigan State University, let alone MSU’s journalism program, who knew how to outshoot most if not all of the fraternity brothers they were dating. My mother loved to tell stories about idiot men who thought they needed to teach her how to shoot, and got taught an important lesson that just because someone wears a skirt and heels doesn't mean they can't handle a rifle, shotgun, or pistol.

Anyway, this is crazy talk. I think we all know we're stuck with some situations that we can't realistically change. Given time, liberalism will fall apart because it is consumptive rather than productive. The only question is how many years it will take for liberalism to collapse and how many people the collapse will take down with it.

you may have hit on a solution to the East St. Louis problem ~ relocation to the UP ~ or else we cut off their welfare.

As you said, they probably couldn't survive there.

We went there on our honeymoon years ago. First, all the trees are nicely trimmed ~ and there are these cute signs on all the roads that tell folks 'no parking october 1 to may 31' or some such. That's to let the snowploughs go through!

A many time married Great Great grandfather (two dozen, maybe more) married an Indian lady from up there ~

just why any conservative still lives in those socialist northern states is beyone me.

Why doens;t those conservatives get out and move to a southern state or even a swing state like OH, FL, VA, NC, CO, , NM if they come form the west coast.

Got my wife out of MA, fed up of giving money to the socialist rats, living in such a crap home, she left fmaily, all her family, left her job etc and we started fresh in north east FL which is one of the most republican county in FL.

West coast and the north are lost causes and yet conservatives still live there whilst they ass homosexual teaching in schools, homosexual marriage, hate laws, more affirmative action for illegals and others, banning of little things like Christmas in Christmas trees, strict gun laws.

exactly why the hell do any conservatives still stay there and give money to the socialists?

still stuns me when I see and read conservatives from the northern socialist states and west coast saying how their state will never pass such issues like homosexual teaching in schools, but then they do, well they wont pass homosexual marriage but they do, well they won;t raise more taxes but they do, well they won;t dare to ban guns but they do.

When will some conservatives understand that living there and giving money to their socialist state only helps the left, time to pack their bags leave their family if they must and get out.

Yes my wife did it so this is not talk

exactly the left always puts out something in one state and see how the media and the people react.

If a million conservatives moved out of said state then the bill would fail as the state would lose tax money and electoral count but if people stay in this dump then the bill goes aahead to national level..

Look at the homosexual agenda, and marriage, force it on the people of MA and then have to move to other states whilst the country gets used to it.

Now they will do the gun law and if gun owners say and do nothing because they would rather watch their hero in sports or Hollywood then the gun law goes to all of us.

Chic fil a bad
pot is good\
guns bad
crime up
feces lovers and turd sexual pokers good
church bad, morals bad\
illegals good
non union workers bad\

you can;t even make this stuff up with the socialist states anymore

1.4 million gun owners in IL, now 1.4 million gun owners should leave IL and move to states like VA, NC, FL, OH and make those states more republican and leave IL out of hundred of millions of $’s in tax money

that is the best way to defeat these socialists not to think that places like CA, MA, NY, NJ, IL might just stop being socialist whilst they take your money and have a higher electoral count
