A sense of insecurity has gripped the female population in parts of India. As the ashes of the New Delhi gang rape victim were scattered over the Ganges River, hundreds of Indian women applied for firearm licenses and joined self-defense classes. Since the news of the brutal gang rape and murder broke in December, 274 Delhi women have applied for gun licenses, Delhi police said. Some 1,200 more have called the licensing department to inquire how to obtain one. “These include not only the average working woman, but even students who travel long distances to colleges and even their concerned parents. They were eager to find out more on the procedure to acquire arms,” a Delhi police officer told The Times of India.

Tell you what, if I was a woman living there, I’d carry the gun whether it was legal or not. I read a description of what those animals did to that girl, and I’d rather be hanged than go through what she went through.
In all the coverage Ive heard and seen of this event there is really no information on who the gangsters were. Im assuming they were Amish?

I know two adults who can barely drive — and don’t — who are top-notch gun enthusiasts. If you are anywhere near Texas or Oklahoma I’d like to arrange a shooting match between you and one of them.

Perhaps you don’t know much about the large middle and professional classes in India. They don’t put restrictions on their women learning (I’m a professor and there are always Indian students, male and female, in the universities with which I’m familiar). Yes there are many poor Indians, but there are many that are not.
The folks rushing to get guns are the working people or college students who are as capable as American women.

What nobody is talking about is the perpetrators... they are slum dwellers from the slum. Romantic Slumdog Millionaire notwithstanding, the slum dwellers are pests.
