The House of Representatives late Tuesday easily approved emergency bipartisan legislation sparing all but a sliver of America’s richest from sharp income tax hikes -- while setting up another “fiscal cliff” confrontation in a matter of weeks.

Lawmakers voted 257-167 to send the compromise to President Barack Obama to sign into law. Eighty-five Republicans and 172 Democrats backed the bill, which had sailed through the Senate by a lopsided 89-8 margin shortly after 2 a.m. Opposition comprised 151 Republicans and 16 Democrats.

Republican House Speaker John Boehner voted in favor of the deal, as did House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, his party's failed vice presidential candidate. But Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy voted against it.

who created 99% of this government/tyranny we have? : Democrat congresses did.

What the hell are you talking about . Pelosi and Obama passed socialist healthcare . no republican voted for that . Sure the media fooled some Republicans on this fiscal cliff bs. but to ask for Pelosi is the most ridiculous thing I ‘ve ever heard.
The democrats control the media, presidency , Senate . and have a lot of the House . Republicans never raised anything as the democrats control practically everything including the media which is the most powerful part.

Republicans should just go home forever. Leave one designated Congressman or Senator behind to call a quorum at any opportunity or when it appears that a majority is not present. Force the Democrats to always be present and show the country the GOP will not go along with the status quo.

Well that's what true Sons of Liberty might do.

What makes it so unexpected? I had absolutely no faith in Boner or any number of Republicans to make a stand. Why did you have faith in them?

Neither shockking nor unexpected, but the result of the Republican primaries of 2012 and the dearth of leadership demanded by the American people

But you won’t get to vote in the 2014 primaries in most states if you “leave” the party. Besides, it’s already left you.

I give NO credit to any of the Republican members who voted no. The fix was in. Enough Republicans in what is considered “safe” seats were asked to vote yes, so that the rest of the cowards could vote no purely for purposes of political cover. If this vote was genuine, the entire GOP leadership team would be tossed out by the majority of Republican members whose will they supposedly went against by pushing this sell-out. There are only a handful of true conservatives in the GOP caucus and I don’t include Michelle Bachmann in that number. She sold her political soul to curry favour with the GOP-e in the primaries and is a shell of her former self. The Tea Party Caucus is a farce.

John Boehner, the new “Democrat” -voting Majority Speaker.

Time to get rid of this fool.

Take down their names, and make sure their constituents remember how they voted in two years.

Take all this down to the wire...then deliver to the American people something like this.

These are supposed to be the best and the brightest we send to Warshington. Either they are dumb as an earth biscuit or they are doing this stuff on purpose.

I believe this is on purpose. To what end? Not sure, but one thing I am absolutely sure of, Uncle Sugar (republicans and democrats) are completely out of control!

“Conservatives in government are officially a small and insignificant minority.”

So what’s new about that?

I would be shocked to learn that there are actually 72 limited government R’s in Congress, per your comment about “no” votes.

Most self-styled “conservative” R’s in Congress are not very conservative at all. For one, most are attorneys, so it is very easy for them to vote as statists while seated in Congress and at the same time portraying themselves as conservatives or constitutionalists back in the district. Secondly, there are plenty of “conservative” voters who continue to vote for them and make excuses for them back home.

Even in this forum, there has traditionally been plenty of support for big government R candidates, and those of us who refuse to capitulate get attacked for sticking to principles, a trait we are told results in electing liberals??

If we really want to fix taxes and spending there are two fundamental problems which need to be addressed: the Federal Reserve, and the debt ceiling. Tax revenue does not seem to be an impediment to federal spending when the Fed has the ability to make up the difference simply by running the printing presses faster.

Oh there's a lot that think it doesn't matter.

Once they get their talking points together they will be trumpeting how strategically awesome this was.....already there's some on here talking about what a waste this fight is because the debt ceiling fight is where it's at. The Monty Pythons of conservatism.......'tis merely a flesh wound.'

The big mistake the Repubs made was not in this sorry piece of cr*p legislation, but in originally doing the fiscal cliff legislation. It set up a lose-lose situation for the Repubs and a win-win for the Dems if for no other reason than that the USSA One Party Press would paint the Repubs as the bad ones no matter what. Thus no reason for the Dems to be reasonable.

How are we any different with the USA mass media than that of the old USSR where Pravda/Tass was a One Party Media. Dittos here too.
