House passes fiscal cliff deal, tamps down GOP revolt

The House of Representatives late Tuesday easily approved emergency bipartisan legislation sparing all but a sliver of America’s richest from sharp income tax hikes -- while setting up another “fiscal cliff” confrontation in a matter of weeks.

Lawmakers voted 257-167 to send the compromise to President Barack Obama to sign into law. Eighty-five Republicans and 172 Democrats backed the bill, which had sailed through the Senate by a lopsided 89-8 margin shortly after 2 a.m. Opposition comprised 151 Republicans and 16 Democrats.

Republican House Speaker John Boehner voted in favor of the deal, as did House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, his party's failed vice presidential candidate. But Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy voted against it.

Tweeting him won’t make me feel better.
Getting him, Cantor and McConnell out of leadership will.

Seeing how worthless the GOP leadership has been, might as well fold now and not do the silly song and dance.<./i>

If they were going to cave [and deep down we all knew they would] they should have at least saved us all the drama and done it weeks ago. Maybe we should save money and just eliminate the House altogether since the Senate is all both parties seem to think we need.

Republican Party = Junior auxiliary of the Democrat Party.
Marxist bastards of the same party, all.
We need a viable second party.

They have kicked the can down the road again.

Interestingly enough - they just finished playing the "Kick the Can" episode on the SyFy channel's Twilight Zone marathon.

The House GOP needs new leadership. Things are looking so bad that we will have defections to the Dem column if this weak leadership is not removed. With a count of 234 R 201 D for the House for the 133th Congress, a flip of 17 seats will mean total Marxism in 2015.

Roll Call is up:

Ryan is finished as a national candidate. Liked him before.
Don’t care for him now.

Sure. They didn’t have to do squat here; they could have raised a stink about no budget in 4 yrs., they could have passed their own and recessed, etc.

No, the GOP willingly laid down and rolled over. They will do the same for the debt ceiling.

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension: a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You’re moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You’ve just crossed over into ... the Twilight Zone.

Ain’t it the truth?

Sorry, meant 113th Congress above, not 133rd.

Also it is a good thing that these tax cuts are PERMANENT....this can’t be used anymore.

Not according to the president, who has already said next year he will demand higher taxes again. Do you think the republicans will stop him then?
