WASHINGTON (AP) — A Democratic aide says the White House and congressional Republicans have reached an agreement to avert the so-called fiscal cliff.

The measure would extend Bush-era tax cuts for family incomes below $450,000 and briefly avert across-the-board spending cuts set to strike the Pentagon and domestic agencies this week.

Democrat_media = Chump

You've seen what Boehner’s done, how he's screwed us over, time after time, and yet you mock us (me) for doubting him and the other GOPe's?

Sorry, but Boehner (and Cantor, and McCarthy) know exactly what's going on here. And you have the balls to to insult me. Pfft.

The military budget should not be not cut just because it would harm business or employment numbers.

(2) expense reductions get put off until the debt ceiling negotiation in two or three months. So the Reps preserve their leverage, on expenses

What leverage? They promised us $100 billion in spending cuts 16 months ago in exchange for printing up $2.5 trillion in new money to fund Obama's election slush fund. I'm still waiting for them to deliver what we were promised last time around. The only leverage the Republicans can claim here is that they have both elbows and both knees on the ground.

They are nearly indistinguishable.

Frankly, I'd rather go over the "Cliff" and then solve the real problem of out of control spending than continue to impoverish our children and our grandchildren.

The tax increase on everyone part of the "Cliff" is now gone with this "Deal." It would have been better for taxes to go up on everybody, because then even low information voters would see the true cost of Obama serfdom.

Now, that opportunity is lost. Only "the rich" will pay more.

Secondly, the Sequester "Deal" was even worse. It forces 50% of the spending cuts on the military, even though that is only 18% of the spending. On top of that, defense spending results in high paying, high tech jobs that actually increase the nation's productivity. So killing that goose does no one any good, other than Democrats who have lusted over killing the military for decades.

The "Super Committee" was supposed to avoid Sequester altogether, and that turned out to be a joke. The Democrats declared it over before debate even began. They KNEW the "Super Committee's" job should have been to begin Entitlement reform, and that was precisely the one thing they refused to even discuss and was off the table.

So here we are, worse off than we were before.

1. Military going to be gutted (only delayed by a few weeks)

2. Tax increases

3. Hundreds of Billions in giveaway unemployment checks

4. Entitlements not touched one iota

5. Debt ceiling already reached

6. Markets spooked and the world watching us implode

I could go on, but what's the point? The thing that makes me furious is the Republicans gave away the candy store to the Democrats and left the military out to dry.

That, to me, is outrageous. Shame on them.

How could we forget!

I also remember Laura Ingraham telling the the Tea Party to sit down and shut up, and get behind Boehner. After-all, according to Laura “Inside-the-beltway” Ingraham, “it was the best deal we could get." How's that workin’ out Laura?

The House rejected tax cuts on people making over $1M but now they will vote for a deal with taxes on those making over $450K? actually I don’t care one way or the other what they do now as I no longer care about this pseudo-drama. However I find this new ‘deal’ suspicious. My guess is the dems are setting up expectations so if Republicans in the House kill the deal at last moment the Republicans are blamed

I disagree.

Multimillionaires are Obama voters. The GOP should stop rewarding them.

The middle class tax cuts were saved.

As for spending, its never going to be cut but Congress is never serious about that stuff.

Boehner must not let this bill come to the House floor unless a majority of his caucus supports it. And I don’t think they do. If he allows this bill to be passed by the Democrats with a few Republicans thrown in then he needs to be replaced as speaker by a bona fide conservative. I am so tired of seeing our so-called GOP leaders caving in all the time.

I have, like many, been sucked into all this Kabuki Motion in DC.

After hearing others talk about it, I too, have come to the conclusion
that Kabuki Dances aside, the Senate and The House will not vote on
any last minute cliff deal.
No of these hacks, or very few of them want to go on record to increase
taxes on anybody. However, the automatic increases will go in effect.
And they will then be given the opportunity to vote on targeted tax cuts.
A vote for tax cuts is a much easier vote than a vote for tax increases.
The result will be the same. Taxes on the rich will go up.

American Pie”

[Intro]
A long, long time ago
I can still remember how that music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they’d be happy for a while

But February made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn’t take one more step

I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died

[Chorus]
So bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’ “This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die”

[Verse 1]
Did you write the book of love
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so?
Now do you believe in rock and roll
Can music save your mortal soul
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?

Well, I know that you’re in love with him
‘Cause I saw you dancin’ in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues

I was a lonely teenage broncin’ buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died

[Chorus]
I started singin’ bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’ “This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die”

[Verse 2]
Now for ten years we’ve been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin’ stone
But that’s not how it used to be
When the jester sang for the king and queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
And a voice that came from you and me

Oh, and while the king was looking down
The jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned

And while Lenin read a book on Marx
A quartet practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died

[Chorus]
We were singin’ bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’ “This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die”

[Verse 3]
Helter skelter in a summer swelter
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter
Eight miles high and falling fast
It landed foul on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast

Now the halftime air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh, but we never got the chance

‘Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?

[Chorus]
We started singin’ bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’ “This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die”

[Verse 4]
Oh, and there we were all in one place
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again
So come on, Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack Flash sat on a candlestick
‘Cause fire is the devil’s only friend

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell
Could break that Satan’s spell

And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died

He was singin’ bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’ “This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die”

[Outro]
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I’d heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn’t play

And in the streets, the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken

And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died

And they were singin’ bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’ “This’ll be the day that I die
This’ll be the day that I die”

[Chorus]
They were singin’ bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’ “This’ll be the day that I die”

Nope. The debt ceiling is a separate issue.

I expect that will be raised again to avoid a default. There will be no cuts and the country will muddle through 2013.

Happy New Year!

Agree 100%. I remember back after the 2010 election how excited everyone got about the GOP taking control of the House. Since that time, Boehner has passed two continuing resolutions locking us into 2009 spending levels (with obligatory spending increases included). Add to that the start-up funding for ObamaCare. Did the GOP House do anything to stop that? Absolutely not.

And then fast forward to August 2011. This was the one time to showcase for the world that Obama's policies were bankrupting this nation. But what does Boehner do? He pushes the largest debt ceiling increase in the history of this country and gets NOTHING in return. Nothing. And what does Obama get with his freshly-printed $2.5 trillion? He gets to buy the 2012 election with it.

I hate to say this, but we were actually better off with Pelosi as Speaker. At least with her, top tax rates remained the same. With Boehner, they will go up.
