What is the essence of freedom? Property and a gun.
I never met my grandfather, but that's the lesson I took from his life. He was one generation out of slavery and bought property and guns.
It's so predictable that today's discussion on gun control is similar to the noise we hear from liberals every time there is a mass shooting. What is new this time is that the NRA, under the direction of Wayne LaPierre, David Keene and Asa Hutchinson, has put forth a concrete plan that most American parents should appreciate will keep children safer at school.
Why is it that liberals find it sensible to expand the reach of government each time a crisis arises, yet solutions that protect our freedoms and our ability to control our own lives they invariably find irrational?
Consider even the question of cost, which has been one point of contention regarding the NRA’s proposal to provide armed security for our schools. Does anyone believe there are not significant enforcement costs in expanding our gun control laws?
The first parents that I believe should rally behind the NRA’s proposal are those who have been forced for generations to send their children to dangerous urban schools with no recourse or protection - low income, minority parents.
I have argued for 25 years that poor parents should get vouchers so they can move their kids out of schools where they don’t learn and are not safe. But who would have thought that the tragic loss of innocent babes in Connecticut would open the door to force liberals and unions to finally address school safety?
Why are Gun-control advocates never challenged to answer on behalf of the most vulnerable how you take the gun from the underground, the criminal, a racist cop or tyrannical government?
Blacks of all people should know that taking arms from the law-abiding many puts too much power in the hands of a perhaps ill-intending few.
In polling done by the Pew Research Center in 2009, only 38 percent of blacks, compared to 69 percent of whites, expressed a “great deal” or a “fair amount” of “confidence in local police to treat blacks and whites equally.”
In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled, in McDonald v. Chicago, that the 2nd Amendment, which articulates the “right to bear arms,” applies to the states. This overturned an appeals court decision, which upheld a local ordinance in Chicago prohibiting handgun ownership.
The man who filed the lawsuit, Otis McDonald, was a black man who wanted to protect himself in the deteriorating neighborhood where he lived where he felt unsafe because of gangs and drugs.
G. Marcus Cole, a black man from Pittsburgh, now a professor at Stanford Law School, and a member of the national advisory board of my organization CURE, blogged about the case, and his childhood memories of his father buying a gun to protect his family.

Cole quotes Frederick Douglass, “the self educated runaway slave, turned abolitionist newspaper editor and orator,” who said citizenship requires three boxes: “the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box.”
Blacks should put politics aside and heed the wisdom of Douglass, Marcus Cole’s father, and my grandfather and fight to protect freedom for which we have fought.

One thing about having a gun in your home for protection is that it is the great "equalizer" - in theory, at least (you have to know how to use it). If someone breaks in, intending to harm me or my family, I at least have a chance to defend them. Take away my equalizer and we become easy targets for anyone with a gun or a knife, or a crowbar, or a ... to do whatever they broke in to do. In all the talk about registering guns, they have yet to figure out how to get the criminals who have them to obey the law. The fact that criminals HAVE guns is illegal but it doesn't seem to stop them! For some strange reason, the gun grabbing liberals never seem to have an answer for that.

Yeah, they should but won’t as long as their ‘lord & savior’ is promising them pie in the sky here and now. With all the talk from their ministers & preachers, and the brave talk in this article, last month the talk walked and ‘social justice’—and all that socialism entails, ‘Protect us from the bad mens!” (and our sons)—what black people voted for was more of the same, including a gun-grabbing statist and socialist. So, nevermind the bollocks: May your chains rest lightly on you, once again, black folks.

Some won’t but a lot of white people bought into the same line of crap. Trying to make this into a racial thing is part of that same type of crap.
I do know several black families who are proud American gun owners. They stand as strong in support of the second amendment as the rest of my friends.

Anymore, I believe gun control is like marijuana control. You can have all the laws you want, but they are vacated by popular action.
After the Cival War, many states, rewrote or amended their constitutions with the purpose of keeping guns out of the hands of blacks. The idea being that these new laws would be enforced on blacks but ignored for whites.....
The majority of black people in this country just do what they’re told, ironically, by the same political party that supported slavery.
They won't. They'll talk about it for a while, and then, "Hey, a squirrel!!!" and it will be forgotten.

Assume we define ‘relative’ broadly, to include the young men who father the children of our female relatives, whether married to them or not." He sat there waiting for my answer.
At one time I worked in a gun store. Some of our best customers were older black men who came from parts of town where civilization had collapsed. They worked for many years to pay off a mortgage, only to spend their golden years trapped in their own homes by gang-bangers.

Port Authority cop accused of owning ‘Newtown’-style assault rifle

Port Authority cop Jeffrey Haner was busted on possession of two illegal assault weapons, including the same type of Bushmaster rifle used in the Newtown massacre, authorities said.
Ramsey, NJ, police said they took a total of 10 weapons from Haner after his wife asked for a temporary restraining order.
The 41-year-old cop, who works at the George Washington Bridge and made $175,000 last year, also had eight legal guns, including two handguns, Ramsey police said.
But Haner’s .223-caliber Bushmaster and Chinese-made Norinco rifle were fitted with accessories including flash suppressors that made them illegal assault weapons under New Jersey law, police said.
He was charged on Dec. 21 with two counts of possessing an assault weapon without a permit, police said. The maximum penalty for each charge is five years in prison.
Haner was also charged with one count of possessing high-capacity magazines, which carries a maximum penalty of up to 18 months in prison.
A source familiar with Haner’s case said he bought the guns more than 15 years ago and they were stored in a locked case.
Haner did not return a call seeking comment.
Bobby Egbert, a spokesman for the Port Authority PBA, said Haner had an “impeccable 19-plus-years career” with the department.

Sen. Feinstein: US has to ‘bite the bullet’ and enact new gun-control restrictions

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) argued Sunday it’s time for the country to “bite the bullet” and pass new gun control legislation.
In response to a shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. that resulted in 27 dead, including 20 children, Feinstein has promised to introduce a new federal assault weapons ban in 2013.
“America has to bite the bullet of what these incidents mean to our people, to our nation and our nation’s standing in the world,” Feinstein said on “Fox News Sunday.” “When you have someone walking in and slaying in the most brutal way, 6-year-olds, something is really wrong.
Feinstein said she would look to close loopholes that allowed many gun manufactures to evade the restrictions in the original federal assault weapons ban, which expired in 2004.
