US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been admitted to hospital in New York with a blood clot, officials say.
Mrs Clinton suffered a concussion earlier this month after fainting and falling down.
At the time, she was reported to have had a stomach virus and to have passed out after becoming dehydrated.
Mrs Clinton is due to stand down as secretary of state before US President Barack Obama officially begins his second term in January.
Doctors discovered the clot during a follow-up examination on Sunday, her spokesman Philippe Reines said.
Mrs Clinton is being treated with anti-coagulants. She was admitted to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where she will remain for the next 48 hours so that doctors can monitor her medication.
She is expected back at her desk on Monday, Mr Reines said.
Mrs Clinton is due to give evidence before a Congressional committee on 10 January in connection with the attack in September on the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi.
The US ambassador to Libya and three American officials were killed in the incident.
Mrs Clinton was appointed secretary of state at the start of Mr Obama's first term, in January 2009.
Her most recent foreign trip was to Dublin earlier this month.

Two of these are serious...the other three only occasionally if they become infected or cause a compartment syndrome.
They say...discovered at followup examination. No physician can make a definitive diagnosis of a subdural hematoma or epidural hematoma without imagining studies which would be definitive. One might suspect hematoma, but only with the imaging would that diagnosis be made. They did not say anything, which I have read, to indice they diagnoses a subdural hematoma or epidural hematoma. Those are the money diagnoses. So were her physician index of suspicision only raised 4 weeks later. Any physician, and I mean any physician, would be guilty of malpractice if they saw a patient who had fallen, manifested vomiting (especially projectile vomiting), who did not presume a subdural hematoma and rule it out with CT or MRI. This goes doubly for taking care of a high government official.
Something is not right here. Incompelete information. Cryptic in nature. We need more information. They put it out there to indicate she had a "brain" clot to the uninitiated. Whick is it? Their press release was meant to deceive.

They should hold the Kerry-Heinz nomination until Mrs. Slick Willy can get back on her feet and testify. Would be so tacky for Kerry-Heinz to seem like he was stepping over her body to get the job.
God forgive me. My heart is hardened against these people. They care not a whit for us or for this land we love. Their lies and treachery have tried to destroy America and us with it at almost every turn, for years and years.
Live or die, they are dead to me. I think of them as demons sent from hell anyway.
So, I really could care less if hell wants H3ll to suffer some, if not to come back home to the community of the soulless.

I am wondering if she had a stroke, and the concussion is just a cover story so as not to damage her presidential ambitions.

I wholeheartedly and completely concur with you. This woman is capable of anything and this is just the latest iteration of her subterfuge(s).
I predict a miraculous partial recovery. Blood clots however affect memory, everybody knows that.

For weeks I read rumors that Hillary had a stomache ailment. Now, I wonder if her stomache ailment isn’t actually cancer or something else awful. Look, I dislike the Clinton’s politics as much as the next person on this blog but, I would never wish a dreadful disease on anyone. The bottom line is this ‘sickness’ may not be about avoiding the Benghazi hearings. It may truly be a serious health crisis for Hillary. As voters, we’ll probably never know....we rarely know much about anything to be quite honest....and we’ll be left to speculate.

One of the tabloids is claiming that Ms. Clinton is being tested for a possible brain tumor, noting that she collapsed while climbing the stairs to her government jet back in 2010. Naturally, that incident received almost no attention. But Hillary’s health seems to be declining rapidly and it’s clearly more than a mere stomach bug.
Of course, medical secrecy is a hallmark of the Democratic Party. Obama has never released his health records. I can only imagine what might be hidden in those documents.
