“You’re in a fantasy. The good old days never were.”
Negative.
Up until the term “activist journalism” was coined and accepted around the time of Woodward and Bernstein, objectivity WAS the holy grail of true journalists. True, yellow journalism has been with us forever to some degree, but the public acceptance of outright propaganda has never been greater.
“If conservatives want to do better and get their ideas out there engage the media.”
I co-authored “Pursuing Liberty”, which profiles the true experiences and perspectives of eight legal immigrants who have all fled to the US to escape tyranny and oppression in their home countries.
A small blow for liberty, perhaps, but I’ve got no plans to stop writing pro-freedom tracts.
Walter Duranty? Drew Pearson? Westbrook Pegler? Really, journalism was some kind of "Land of the Giants"?
s Walter Lippmann was a Fabian Socialist; how straight can he have been, adhering as he did to that pack of wolves?
Reminds me of that Star Trek movie scene in which one of the time-traveling Enterprise crew comments that they've traveled to a time when Norman Mailer and Jacqueline Suzanne are still alive. "Ah," replies Spock, "....the giants."
Congratulatins on your book. That’s excellent. But, the history of journalism is propaganda, not objectivity. It’s impossible not to have a perspective or bias. Towns throughout America had opposing newspapers - some moralizing on one subject and others on another.
See the Boston Massacre as an example. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Massacre#Propaganda_battle
What’s unique about now is that for a period of about a half century we had a media wholly dominated by the progressive agenda. Coupled with their control over our education system (91% of HS grads come from government schools) it’s a formidable dominance of our thoughtspace.
