I think he has great problems in even walking around. That would explain the segway use. There are problems there with knees, hips or something that is impairing his mobility.

I would imagine at some point the segway became useful to Bush Sr. but he and his family were promoting it back as early as 2005 and you’d be seeing him and Barbara and even G W Bush riding around Kennebunkport with them. I believe it started as a recreational tool for Bush Sr. As you remember, he was a very active man even during his early use of the segway. Now I’m not claiming it caused all of his problems with his hip etc but when you stop using certain muscles and parts of the body one can start to slow down. At some point and at his age it’s bound to happen sooner or later anyways.

I’m sure as time went by the segway became more helpful for the elder Bush to get around. He is up there in age.

I just can’t help wonder how much it may have hastened his slowing down by using it as much as he did in the early part of his golden years.

May God bless him and his recovery.

That DSC was well deserved by LTJG Bush for his heroic action in that attack and thanks for posting the citation.

It's sad that we're losing so many Veterans of WWII, it won't be long that there will be none left.

Hopefully Lt. and former President George H.W. Bush will be with us for many more years.

God bless him and his family.

He has the world’s best medical care and orthopedic care available to him. His body has been wearing out. That can happen to the elderly no matter if they are very active as long as possible. Hip joints, knee joints, feet etc. There is actual wear & tear on these areas that keep us mobile which in some individuals can almost cripple them.

As active as this man was, loving golf especially, and even wanting to sky dive, I have to reason that he is one of those whose body wearing out preceeded the segway use. There is just so much surgery and implants etc that an old person can take. My parents were in very good shape and did not have the problems of body mechanics going to heck, but they developed other problems that led to their deaths at 87 for my dad (cancer) and 86 for my mom (dementia, & head injury from falling). So, this stuff happens. It just varies as to the specifics for each individual.

I had a friend, now deceased, who became disabled because of a hip joint wearing out when he was in his 50s. Surgeon said it was the worst case he’d seen...joint not just worn but obliterated. The surgery and implant did not go well. He struggled through it all, trying to get better and get back to work. He had complications from other conditions as well, and he died at 53.

I don’t know what else to say.

GHWB reportedly has a form of Parkinsons that effects the lower extremities, necessitating the regular & public use of segways/wheelchairs/other within the last year.

Prayers for the Bush family. I got a kick over Barbara getting the Oak Ridge Boys together to sing him Amazing Grace. Brought a smile to my face.

Like you I have to reason that he is one of those whose body wearing out preceeded the segway use because of his age and especially because noone what injuries he may have gotten from the war. I don’t know a lot about his military experience but I do believe he went down in a plane. Anyways, whether it’s a crash in a plane or a broken arm from a bike fall when you’re young, they tend to come back and haunt us in later years.

What you say makes a lot of sense
