NEW YORK (Reuters) - A suburban New York newspaper that sparked an uproar among gun enthusiasts by publishing names and addresses of residents holding pistol permits is now planning to publish even more identities of permit-toting locals.

Further names and addresses will be added as they become available to a map originally published on December 24 in the White Plains, New York-based Journal News, the newspaper said.

The original map listed thousands of pistol permit holders in suburban Westchester and Rockland counties just north of New York City.

Along with an article entitled "The gun owner next door: What you don't know about the weapons in your neighborhood," the map was compiled in response to the December 14 shooting deaths of 26 children and adults in Newtown, Connecticut, editors of the Gannett Corp.-owned newspaper said.

a question that needs to be asked of city officials would be “how do I make my records private?”

Don’t get me wrong. this stuff has to stop. But I think pressuring the government who is turning this info over is where the fix will be.

I'm not convinced that the government should have disclosed this information under New York's Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). Under the NY FOIL law government can withhold information that could, if disclosed, endanger the life or safety of a person or where disclosure constitutes an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy. Think about it.

if you can publish the names and addresses of the armed people, you must also be able to publish the names and addresses of the unarmed journalists.

Gotta love the web for at least making it possible to fight back against these idiots. The question is, shall I write or call them at home?

So lemme get this straight: These scribes decide to publish private info on law-abiding citizens, and in an unprecedented move on the part of Real Americans, a public database listing the personal info on the scribes is created in retaliation.

Brilliant. So the hack-scribes now wanna double down on this?

They want to play rough? Fine.

Just imagine if you will: A few Real Americans in that newspaper's direct marketing area getting together for some early morning First Amendment covert ops.

1) And they PRINT numerous copies of the journOlist as possible (we all know what that is, right?)They make sure to include a URL link to the list as well, and why the information is being made available.

2) As they drive around town, they made note of the key locations where one can buy that paper from their own vending machines.

3) If it's a daily paper, the machines are usually filled between 3-5 am each day. On a given day of their choosing...

... they insert a copy of the journOlist between every newspaper copy. Oh, and just imagine they made SURE you hit the machine that is on the inbound side of the train station. it would be a great conversation starter on the ride in that day.

(Or, they could simply tape a copy to the top of the vending machine)

Oh, and to make sure no one could accuse them of breaking the law, they made sure they all pay for and took only one newspaper when the covert op took place.

No need for me to explain. I'll let the reader just imagine the fruitful results of such a covert op ever happened ...

[[If this isn’t inciting death threats, I don’t know what is! Can’t they be sued for that alone?]]

They aren’t actually directly inciting death threats- I’m sure they’ve talked with their high profile expensive lawyers and know where the thin line ends and know where not to trread regardign hte issue and so know how far to push the issue without actually being guilty of inciting murder- They will get to claim that they can not control a sick person’s mind if soem sick operson shoudl attack one of thsoe gun owners- but hte fact that they woudl even push so far shows that they are the truly sick ones in all this- knowign that their actions most likely WILL end in violence when someoen takes mattrers into their own hands-

The left do whatever they like these days, knowing they will never suffer the consequences of their actions because the mainstream media will NEVER follow through on the story if one of their own does soemthign wrong-

I uswed to think ancient rome was a city fileld with pure evil, and thought how terrible it msut have been to have the government actually inciting death agaisnt Christians back in those days- but we’re beginnign to see the very same thigns palying outr here today with our government actively attackign the church and with the left deleriously attackign law abidign citizens while pushign for ‘the rights’ of illegals and criminals-

did you see the map? It shows locations ALL over NY- with 1000’s of location dots- Apparently the newspaper has NO regard for the lives of children as they have just made targets out of these gun owners by rabid militant anti-gun advocates

You know, durign hte election Romney was accused of ‘not carign abotu hte children or abotu hte elderly’ and thsoe FALSE accusations made it impossible for him to be elected- but here we see the left BLATANTLY disregardign hte welfare of children and the elderly and the media does absolutely NOTHING abotu villifying the new york newspaper for actually and really doign what they FALSELY accused Romeny for doing-

The hypocrisy is unbeleivable! I guess in order to get anywhere in this life, you need to be a militant leftist and break all the rules you want and just lie htrough your teeth all the time- I’m thinking of desertign this country by takign up citizenship in mexico just so I can then sneak across he boarder ILLEGALLY juast so I can have all the rights given to me that are denied to LAW ABIDING CITIZENS here

This paper is doing what people who are against gun control talk about when gun control legistlation is the hot topic of the day. Targeting legal gun owners like they’re criminals.

Target their advertisers and subscribers . .

This is a great idea that unfortunately hasn't gotten much traction in the Conservative movement. In reality, this is about the only way we can really put the hurt on Media Organizations like this one. Scare off enough advertisers and they lose big $$$ - then and only then will the Media back off of bad/slanted reporting or stunts like this. They could care less how many bad or negative comments they get. Too bad not one so called Conservative "Leader" will publicly call for a mass boycott of a News Media Organizations or Networks commercial advertisers.

Add the name and address and phone number of each “journOlist” that writes the article

A blogger has already published the names and contact info on nearly every employee (including publishers, editors and reporters) of this newspaper and put it on an interactive map. Link from earlier FR thread about this below:

PS

I’m not so sure this country is any longer embarrassed by this FLOTUS. There are some who never were. They think everything she does is just great.
Why not have a new, ‘first lady’ look? Break out from the suits and the like.

We just stand-by and wait to see what is the next ridiculous subject.

Time for someone to list all the business ad buyers in the paper, with phone numbers, email addresses, etc., both local and national.

Then flood them with complaints and threats of an organized boycott.

I did this to several companies who withdrew their ads from the Rush Limbaugh. Never went back. They were replaced by other businesses who appreciated my business.

Money talks, bullshit walks!

The tolerance of the left on display.

A so-called “community” newspaper attempts to create pariahs of one segment of the community that they serve. They sow the seeds of fear and mistrust while pitting the community residents against one another.

This is modern day “journalism”. An absolute disgrace. They have been indoctrinated well by their communist Professors.

“I’m glad they’re doing this. I know gun owners that vote Democrat. They don’t fear registration, as they are CONVINCED that government will NEVER take their guns.”

Exactly. Maybe it will finally wake the “Golfers with Guns” up also.

I know they typically don’t want to be associated with us “Riff Raff” down in the trenches fighting for their gun rights every day.

“[”The gun owner next door: What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood.”]
What can nosey neighbors do when they learn the guy next door owns a firearm? Because gun ownership is legal there’s nothing legal they can do. But they can start a whispering campaign, shun the gun owner in public, and sic their children on the armed neighbor’s kids. They could picket and put signs in their yards. That’s what the Journal News hopes to accomplish: run gun owners out of the state by stigmatizing them. This is all in the spirit of Obamaism—mob rule.”

Or a neighbor with a grudge can simply file an order of protection against you by claiming you threatened him. YOU have to answer the charges, YOUR gun permit is immediately suspended, YOUR guns are then confiscated.

Quite logical but NY is chock full of left wing jurists that wouldn’t give a crap.
