Crowley, after the commercial break, is actually chuckling about what Obama said.

Yup. The Senate might have something to vote on this weekend but then again there might also be a fall back plan. No real news. Probably a setup to blame Republicans on the Sunday talk shows and Monday morning.

Reid & McConnell are negotiating. They may take up one of the House bills and amend it into meaninglessness. Obama's being hardline on $250K for tax hikes.

I bet the reason he left Hawaii early was NOT due to the fiscal cliff, but health reason: the MiL voted him off the island.

It probably has more to do with reaching the debt limit - Barry can afford to have his credit card maxed out.

People didn’t vote for Obama, they voted for what Obama can give them..as much free crap as humanly possible. There are many reasons why Obama never released his college transcripts, for one he can’t put two words together without saying UMMMMM

Does it get by you that everything out of media and BO’s mouth is negativity towards house republicans? Obama just ended his “speech” with its not fair that the middle class will suffer because people can’t do their job. Now just what kind of impact do you think this lie will have on the republicans? They don’t have a snowballs chance in hell of getting anything out of this mess. They get bashed 24/7 we don’t need it on this conservative website.

The tax cuts are already in place for the middle class. All he has to do is keep them. Why is it so hard for the Republicans to make that case?

So he tells us that tax increases are necessary to fix the budget...ends up with much larger increase than just 250K+ incomes.
Now when he asks for the debt ceiling to be increased, it should be a resounding NO. He has more than he asked for with the tax increases. It’s not a spending problem but an income problem and he got more than he asked for. (This explanation is the one for the libtards) For the rest of us, he really did get more than he asked for...and so did we.

What? The tax cuts are not in place. They expire on January 1 and revert back to Clinton rates. Obama is saying just let's pass the middle class tax cuts and let the rates go back up on the "rich."

The Reps want to extend the rates for everyone. What case are you talking about?

“The tax cuts are not in place. They expire on January 1...”

That’s what j117 means I think. Just extend the tax cuts now so they don’t expire. Just like Obama did once before! Of course that was before he was elected for the second time making him King for four years.

Obama signed the bill that extended the tax cuts before. He can't do it unilaterally without Congress. He has said that he will not extend the tax cuts for everyone again.

And Obama only wants to extend the tax cuts for the middle class, not the "rich." This is the sticking point. If the Reps agree to extend the tax cut for only the middle class now, then there is no way they can pass a tax cut for the remaining 2% later. They are effectively voting to increase taxes on the 2%, something they said they would not do because it would hurt small business and cost 700,000 jobs.

If they really want to tell Hussein where he can go, just ONE of them needs to do what I told every one of them in a fax, posted here: http://butterdezillion.wordpress.com/2012/12/27/letter-faxed-to-every-republican-member-of-congress/

If they do this, the only one going over a cliff is Obama himself. And those who staged his coup for him.

I agree. We need to focus the public’s attention on spending. Right now, people want all the benefits of the welfare state, but are unwilling to pay for them. Once more people have some skin in the game, they may start paying attention to our dire fiscal condition. Taxing the “rich” pays for just 11 days of the government’s spending.

Everyone of these politicians from Obama to the Congress are a bunch of Congenital Liars and absolutely corrupt.
Not one of these people really care about doing the right thing for this country it's all about political posturing.
There will be no deal that will really benefit the country at large or really address any of the real fundamental problems of health care costs, debt & deficit costs or real tax reform.
Whatever deal emerges will be a sham and very short lived, just kicking the can down the road one more time and time is running out for a lot of things.

“...something they said they would not do....”

Yeah just like the senior George “read my lips” Bush. I wish the Republicans would talk about how Obama extended the bill before so as not to hurt the economy back then - why can’t he extend it again so it won’t hurt the economy.

Or perhaps I’m missing something that makes him not able to extend it - you made it sound like it needed a vote. (Or is the vote only needed if he changes the bill - which of course would make it a new bill and require a vote). Sorry if I’m being dense!

If the GOP House refuses to raise the debt ceiling, they will have no other choice. They will be forced to cut spending.

The GOP spine on this is a charade anyway, since they could cut whatever spending they want—and they won’t.

They can only keep the Bush tax cuts from expiring on those Obama and the Dems support keeping them from expiring on, so of course they should take what they can get on that.

But they should stop the spending—making the case to the American people and taking the political hits as they come to do the right thing.
