President Barack Obama issued an executive order to end the pay freeze on federal employees, in effect giving some federal workers a raise. One federal worker now to receive a pay increase is Vice President Joe Biden.

I WISH we had a pay freeze! My husband had his pay CUT by 20% four years ago and we have had to adjust to that since then. We have never seen any of that come back and don’t expect to anytime soon.

However, regardless of my earlier post. I do NOT see how Bh0’s EO raising pay of Federal employees can be LEGAL & CONSTITUTIONAL.

Having just left federal service after more than 8 years, I can speak to the fact that the government is hemorrhaging their best employees left and right because of the pay freeze.

It isn’t the bad employees who leave. The best employees go. While I’m still working in a similar industry, most aren’t - and believe me, it significantly weakens national defense. Nobody cares if they think that some IRS stooge isn’t getting a pay raise. I think they might sit up and take notice if they realized trained engineers are leaving once-prominent federal research and defense agencies because of a perpetual pay freeze.

He’s not up to being a dictator, just a dick.

I had to suffer with a 1/3 pay CUT under his reign of error. NO RAISES for federal employees. WE CANNOT AFFORD IT.

One federal worker now to receive a pay increase is Vice President Joe Biden.

Does this mean that Joe Biden is no longer in the middle class as he repeatedly told voters at rallies in 2012?

I don't understand. His administration is rewriting the rules for measuring the CPI to show that there is no inflation. The new rules make the assumption that as people can no longer afford steak, they will switch to chicken, and those who can no longer afford chicken will switch to spam, and those for whom spam is now out of reach can eat cake, so see? No inflation.

Given that there's no inflation, what is the rationale for a federal worker pay increase? Sure as sh*t the seniors aren't going to see any COLA.

Oh I am sure the Republican led House will draft a letter to strongly object, mention it on the floor, Pelosi or another D leader will object and it will get tabled until???????

The other 20thousand drafts are cleared up.

Buy your ice skates now as we will be skating in Hell when this happens.

The sequence of these EOs on federal pay goes back aways.. Here they are in sequence starting with Obama’s today EO and through the Bush years..
***********************************************************************
Yes, but those executive orders followed Congressional action authorizing a certain level of pay raise. Once that happened then the President decided how much of the authorized/specified raise would be allocated to “locality pay”.

I may have missed it, but I do not recall Congressional action passing this pay raise. Perhaps it was done recently and buried in some of the limited legislation that got through the Senate’s inaction.

Over 150,000 search and rescues have been conducted in the National Parks since 1872.

233 National Park Employees have died while on duty:

http://www.nps.gov/jotr/parknews/ohlfs.htm And this is not just law enforcement; for the most part these folks are regular people.

Most of the people conducting these rescues are frontline NPS employees, making gs-9 to gs-11 pay: 50k to 60k per year, which considering the high cost of living in and around the major national parks is a pretty good bargain. (Try to purchase groceries or go to the nearest Walmart when you work at the Grand Canyon and you will see how quickly the cost of living can eat up a budget.)

From 1992 to 2007 there were 78,488 individuals involved in 65,439 search and rescue incidents. These incidents ended with 2659 fatalities, 24,288 ill or injured individuals, and 13,212 saves. On average there were 11.2 search and rescue incidents each day.

Without the presence of NPS personnel responding to search and rescue incidents, 1 in 5 (20%) of those requesting search and rescue assistance would be a fatality.

Then you should know that the raises were halted by executive order, therefore he has the authority to restore them by executive order. The real constitutional question is if someone has the authority to halt congressionally manadated raises by executive order.

Several years ago Obama wanted to beat Congress to the punch and PROPOSED a federal civilian employee pay freeze. Congress said sure, and didn’t propose a pay raise for the past three years.

There are no automatic annual federal employee pay raises so there are no automatic pay raises to “halt by executive order”. As part of the annual appropriations process, Congress will include a certain amount of money for federal pay raises (along with specifying how big [percentage increase] that pay increase should be) IF IT IS SO INCLINED. It HAS NOT been so inclined in recent years.

You very well may know more of the details of this process than I do, but please post a link to some documentation showing that this current Congress has passed a pay raise for 2013.

Yup, it’s the Republican controlled House that’s the BIG elephant in the room. Shame on Boehner for all he has allowed this President to do since the GOP gained control in 2010. The truth is, the Republicans no longer deserve to keep the House. If I feel this way as much as I dislike Nancy Pelosi I know millions of other feel this way.

At this point I see a super majority happening in 2014.

I think this is exactly what Boehner wants. Less work for him if the GOP is the minority party.

We all know Obama HATES America and the Constitution. Knowing that, can you blame him for taking advantage of the do nothing Republicans?

Based on what the ‘leadership’ has done recently (folding like a lawn chair on every damn thing coming down the pipe), exactly how ‘banding together’ would have been any different??

The GOP would still not have the Senate and these ‘problems’ would still be on their plate. So nothing would still get ‘done’, the media would still be blaming the GOP and the GOP would still be bending over for their ankles ‘cuz they were called bad names. There’s no real fight to reduce ANY part of gov’t coming from the GOP; no real plan (oh, the 5/10yr. models...SURE).

I’ll even contend, w/ the CT shooting, Mitt would be on the forefront for new gun laws and possibly even another AWB bill. So, again, what difference would it have been??

Lighten up?! More executive fiat, blowing $$ we don’t have, on ‘employees’ that should be out a friggin’ JOB. Whole departments should be zero’d out and let loose, but not word one I’ve heard on that wish-list.

But, don’t worry that D.C. is the fastest growing employer, the largest $$ shift in the country, etc. It’s not like they can’t just PRINT more, eh?!

Next time, we might actually be talking about real $$$. Lighten up my hairy white ass!

Obama Orders Pay Raise for Federal Employees

What a perfect opportunity for every Republican in the House and the Senate to put their money where their mouths are!
Ahead of the "negotiations" which it is rumored is ongoing.

Refuse the pay raise to a man! C'mon guys!

Deficit spending? Federal debt? What stinkin' Federal Deficit and National debt?
