Milk has been 50 cents to $1.00 per gallon higher than Gas here for a long time.
If people knew the amount of labor that goes into producing a gallon of milk, they would pay $10.00/gal. and tip the farmer besides!
When farm subsidies are considered, we are already paying more for a a gallon than the sticker price.
Color me confused,,,it’s almost Jan 1st and the article is talking about “expected” milk prices for Nov 2012...? Where I live that’s considered in the past. What am I missing?
All of the msm articles and reports claim that dairy products will double in price because of the formula reverting. “The government” will be forced to pay double...
What I don’t see being discussed is why “the government” wouldn’t simply adjust their buying, and allow the market to normalize.
Is there some other ridiculous regulation in place that disallows the normalization?
Milk pricing has long been a heated topic in my home state, Wisconsin. I haven’t heard anything lately.
Did the cows join the unions? Are they going on strike?...lol
Sometime between now and Tuesday, I plan to stock up with over a month’s supply of milk. I have the coupons to get it for FREE. Some of it I will freeze for the later dates.

The insidious vermin in government make sure they obfuscate the REAL cost of so many products by hiding them behind subsidies and a central planned economy.
Were the free market forces allowed to exist the REAL cost of milk would be much lower albeit a shakeout of those dairy farms which are only still in operation because of government (AKA OUR) support.
The dairy business is a very tough life and those willing to be in that business deserve to be paid a good profit for their efforts more so than some 3 piece suit exec. who is paid well in excess of their benefit to a company.
I site as an example of the French Canadian POS who ran what was the world’s largest commercial printer into bankruptcy all while collecting over $6 Million (US) in bonuses each year during the death spiral.
Like a stopped watch being right twice a day, this is one of the few areas where the OWS scum were correct.

I shop both the local grocery store and the Military Commissary and a lot of times the MC is higher in prices than the local grocery store, and we have only one dominate one Kroger’s. Only difference is the taxes, civie is 9.75% where as the restock fee for the MC is 5%. BUT Kroger’s doubles your coupons up to .60 cents, where as the MC takes it at face value, and Kroger’s gives gas points.
BUT TENNESSEE is still one of 6 states INCOME TAX FREE right to work states. I’d much rather pay a higher sales tax than have the state into my wallet for an income tax. I can control what I spend, they on the other hand are spendaholics including the GOP not just the demwits.
Instead of becoming outraged at administration policies that caused the prices to spike, the sheeple will instead bleat for the government to establish price controls.
I’m worried. What about beer? And cornflakes?
A gallon of gas and a gallon of milk have long been running
neck-and-neck here in Pennsylvania (where the retail price of milk has been SET BY THE STATE since the 1930’s!)

Production is down. Farmers cut marsh grass for feed out here that they haven’t cut in 12-15yrs. Very dry summer. Poor crop year. Others sold pigs, sheep, and steers because feed prices were rising, and it made money-sense to butcher. Already see some price rise in beef and pork. Might be an expensive year to eat... Truely believe that federal price-fixing is very bad, and distorting markets severely. When farmers get paid for not doing something, everyone’s ears and eyes should open.
Since I’m a milk fiend I have to ask, where are you getting coupons for free milk? Is it a regional thing?
My wife is a coupon junky and the only coupons I’ve seen are .50 off for some of the organic brands. That brings the price down some, but even with the coupon it is still a lot higher than the basic store brands.
We are lead by idiots who burn food in our gas tanks. They will not lower fuel prices. They spend our money like it is theirs. It is time to send them to some place where they can never do this again.
All I know is that you could smuggle in 25 pounds of premium marijuana from Mexico, and the PA State Police would be less interested than if you tried to smuggle in two gallons of milk from Ohio.
You got it right but I have to say that I wouldn't pay that much money for something I really can do without. Just like I did with Orange Juice.
I’d pay $10 for real fresh outta the cow milk but not for that watered down slop sold at the grocery stores.
Same here, I pay 6.75 for real fresh outta the cow milk. Worth every penny!

As a former dairy worker, i think people have to consider that unlike soda - which cost about 1.20 average i think for 67 ounces, but which really needs no refrigeration and can be stored for months, and is just sugar and flavoring - milk, which is about $1.75 for 64 ounces, requires expensive cows be feed, cared for and milked 2- 3 times a day, 365 days a year, and the milk kept under almost constant refrigeration from that time, except for being processed (clarified, pasteurized, homogenized) and delivered at least twice a week, all within about 4 days after the milk came from the cow.
And then there are the milk cases, which we used to lose about half of each year.
Kind of helps keep things in perspective.

Even for dairy cows on a high corn inclusion diet, a $1 per bushel increase in the price of corn raises the feed cost by about $.30 per cow per day, or about $.04 per gallon of milk.

Unless you’ve got 100-lb calves that you’re trying to fatten into 1000-lb cattle, I can’t think why the price of cow’s milk should be a major concern for any of us humans.

When govern get involved, it always causes a problem. Then the first thing they do is fight to solve the problem with ten way to make it worse.
Man, we're getting a good deal. Around $2.69 here (SE WA State). But gas is higher than yours.

Washington state is a large dairy producer.
In fact, I think the “Carnation” brand name came from the name of the town.
Yeah, we’re about 20 miles from the lower Yakima Valley, and I believe the other side of the state has considerable production in the Mount Vernon area - Whatcom County — and environs. Other counties also. I’ve never really understood why this state was so optimal for dairy but let it be. The best things about milk to me are the new lactose-free products.

Because of the conditions here, the soil is quite high in nitrogen also.
optimal for agriculture due to good land and mostly, the dams.....land once left dormant can produce wheat,soy beans, potatoes, etc as well as all kinds of fruit, and dairy too....
We purchased 2 gallons of milk for $3 at WalMart today. We price matched to do that. Milk is around $1.57 to $1.67/gal on sale for some time in southern Arizona.
If price supports and market restrictions go away, milk prices will go down significantly.
Lots of Dutchmen immigrated to those areas. Most of the Dutch dairymen in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties moved their operations to the east side of the mountains decades ago. The Sunnyside area Was a popular destination.

Of course, this is one of the ways they get bills passed, the farm bill is on the must have passed list and the demwits want to continue to pay farmers NOT to grow food while the world is starving in many countries. Our food pantries are begging every night on the local propaganda machine for food for the poor and homeless. And I bet they are doing so in all cities across the nation.
Our commodities give away has tripled in 3 years, these are mostly very old and infirm people who do not qualify for food stamps, while the ILLEGAL INVADERS can get them.
We limit our giving to Salvation Army, Alpha Omega House for recovering addicted veterans, AM VETS, and St Judes or Le Boheur (SP?) children’s hospital. NO DOUBLE CROSSING red cross for us. We are retired Military and know to much about them.

You pegged it. Between the dry spells, and the fact that much of our corn than would go to feed for farm animals is going in our gas tanks...which means farmers are planting more of it than other things like soy, wheat, or other farm animal feed.
They have already said pork prices would double, beef has been high for over a year as it is.
We have a lot of kudzu that back fired government import here in the south they could harvest for ethenol. It is smothering other growing things including trees, creeping over road beds, etc.
I got a gallon of 0 fat milk for the mister yesterday for $3.15, and paid $3.04 for gas with the 3 cents off.
Plan a run on the Commissary to stock up on canned milk to cook with, I like the taste better than that watered down stuff he uses on his cereal. Cooking and cereal eating are the only reasons milk is in the house. I sure don’t drink it, never liked it tastes like water with out the fat content in it.
These doctors and their low cholesterol eating have taken all the fun and taste from food. Add in low sodium diets and it all tastes like cardboard.
Have you noticed that plastic undigestible margarine now equals or surpasses REAL BUTTER in prices? And sure does not taste as good as it use to or as BUTTER does. I use BUTTER, if I have to pay those kinds of prices for the stuff it will be the REAL stuff BUTTER.
