I saw the play years ago. The title says it all. I was. But then I hate musicals that are all singing all the time.
E! Online - wrong. The French Revolution occurred 1789-1799, whereas the narrative of Les Misérables begins in 1815. It does, however, feature a revolt by students, known as the June Rebellion or the Paris Uprising of 1832.

the French Revolution was carried out by a bunch of socialist murderers who persecuted and murdered Catholics. It was not one of France’s finer moments.

Or you can just wait for a few more years and see it in real life. I just got back from the movie and liked it. But it was a bit depressing and too “real life” for me. SPOILER ALERT:

Like when the mother of Cosette (sp?) lost her job and in a matter of moments does away with a minor sense of “self” (her hair) for money to feed her child. Then a tooth. Then her soul (prostitution). How fast one can go from “gold to a bowl of dust”.
And then the futility of the youth rebellion. I imagined FREEPERS at the barricades, and when dawn came they were all alone. (Headline: “Right wing gun hoarders hold neighborhood hostage.”)
I pray that it will never come to that. But it showed me that the change must happen BEFORE it all comes crashing down.

Also, the French defeated 7 coalitions against them from 1798 to 1812, finally being defeated really by Napoleon's ill-conceived plan and the Russian weather which killed a million men
Also, the French were instrumental in the GReek war of independence in 1821, in the restoration of King Ferdinand VII of Spain in the 1800s
They were also fighting alongside us in the Korean War and the first gulf war
And they kept their colonies-in-name in West Africa
