Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie announced tonight Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz will replace the late Sen. Daniel Inouye as the U.S. senator from Hawaii -- not Sen. Inouye's first choice.
On the day he died, the late senator wrote a letter to Abercrombie asking that he pick Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, D-Hawaii, to replace him.
Hanabusa made it to the final round of consideration, but she did not win the nomination.
"The charge of the central committee was to take all points of view into account, from Sen. Inouye and from the rank and file -- the Democratic grass roots," Abercrombie said during a news conference on Wednesday evening. "No one and nothing was preordained."
Schatz served in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006. In 2006, he launched an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. Congress.
Schatz served as chairman of the Democratic Party of Hawaii from 2008 to 2010. He was sworn in as lieutenant governor in December 2010.
Schatz named two priorities for his new appointment that rarely see action on the Senate floor: native Hawaiian recognition and climate change.

hard to believe there’s not ONE person in HI who could pull out a sheet of paper with some info that could lead him to ‘respectfully decline’ the Gov’s offer...
I don’t profess to be an expert on Hawaii politics, but it seems like this was a very bad pick for Abrecombie. It is sure to have angered powerful elements of the Democrat machine there, but I am not sure who will be pleased by Schatz to offset this. There could be primary challenges for governor and senator in 2014, as well as even an opening for a Republican. I believe Lingle’s win was owed in large part due to fracturing within the Democrat Party machine.

PURPOSE OF CONTACT
This is a formal complaint of election fraud against Lt. Gov. Brian E. Schatz, acting in a non-governmental role as Chair of the Democratic Party of Hawaii; and request for investigation of these charges by the Attorney General of Hawaii.
Specifically, under Hawaiian law, if the candidate for President of the United States (“POTUS”) from the major political party meets the federal requirements of the job, then election officials must print the candidate‟s name on the general election ballot. Under Article II, Section 1, of the U.S. Constitution, the POTUS must be a Natural Born Citizen (“NBC”). To get Barack Obama‟s name on the general election ballot in 2008, Mr. Schatz formally submitted to Hawaiian election officials a Certification of Nomination swearing that Mr. Obama was “duly nominated” as the candidate for POTUS for the Democrat Party and had met the legal qualifications for the job. Accompanying that letter was the official Certification of Nomination of the DNC Services Corporation (“DNC”), signed by the Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, acting in her non-governmental role as Chair of the 2008 DNC Presidential nominating convention; and Alice Germond, Secretary of the Corporation. This DNC Certification contained the explicit words required by Hawaii law: the “candidate is legally qualified to serve under the provisions of the United States Constitution.” (DNC Rules also require the nominee must be Constitutionally qualified for the job.)

Well it’s good for our (or “our”) chances (Lingle could win it, maybe Djou) if this pasty Haole (White guy) is the rat nominee.
And it’s good that the late Senator didn’t his get hand-picked choice, it’s a Senate seat not a duchy.

I don’t know why this douche or anyone would want to trade Hawaii for DC. Every picture of him is him smiling while wearing a Hawaiian shirt other than the pictures of the Senate appointment where he’s wearing a suit and looking solemn.
I’ll do Schvantz one better: give them independence (we keep the bases).

“Yesterday a close friend of Obama’s family Gov. Abercrombie appointed Brian Schatz, former chair of the Dem party of HI to take over the seat of the former Senator from Hi, recently departed Senator Inouye. This was done against the wishes of the late Senator, who expressly sought a different candidate.
Today in the morning even CN seemed surprised, as they were reporting that Schatz was not an expected replacement.They reported that he hitchhiked a ride on the air force 1 to DC with Obama, but he is not an expected replacement. Additionally, CNN seemed to be puzzled by Obama’s sudden return to DC. As according to CNN Obama has nobody to talk to in DC: Boehner is in Ohio through the New Year, Members of Congress left DC, Dirty Harry is saying that he will not even draft a proposal without MCConnell agreeing to a simple majority to passing instead of a 60 super majority. Well I have an idea. First, in relation to Schatz, he committed treason by becoming criminally complicit and signing a falsified OCON, falsified certificate of nomination of Obama, where the usual language “eligible according to Constitution” was removed and eligible according to regulations od the Democratic party was inserted.
So, Schatz was rewarded handsomely for his criminal complicity. Now he is a U.S. senator. As for Obama, even CNN suspects that his reason for flying to DC for Fiscal Cliff negotiations is bogus,as he has nobody to negotiate with. It is more likely, he will be huddled with his attorneys, possibly Bob Bauer and worried federal employees: Commissioner of Social Security Astrue, Director of Selective Service Romo, Postmaster Donahoe, all of whom covered up Obama’s forged IDs. Of Course Schatz will be there as well.
The question is, will those employees continue this criminal complicity or will they testify pursuant to subpoenas which I served them as they might decide that it is not worth going to prison for the rest of their lives or risk death penalty for treason, covering up for Obama. We’ll have to wait and see.
Incidenly, I received an e-mail from Montgomery Blair Sibley, which states: “it is impressive that you got them worried enough that they are throwing the kitchen sink at you with the “speech and debate” clause and “political question” issues”
