Newspaper Publishes Gun Owners’ Names and Addresses
abc news ^ | Dec 24, 2012 | By Colleen Curry

A newspaper in New York has received a wave of criticism from its readers after publishing the names and addresses of all of the individuals with handgun or pistol permits in its coverage area.

Hundreds of residents in New York’s Westchester and Rockland counties were surprised to find their names and addresses listed on a map posted by The Journal News on Sunday. Users can click any dot on the map to see which of their neighbors has a permit for a gun.

The map sparked more than 500 comments from readers within a day of its appearance on the website, many of them voicing outrage at the paper’s decision to make the information public.

“This is CRAZY!! why in the world would you post every licensed gun owner information?? What do you hope to accomplish by doing this. This is the type of thing you do for sex offenders not law abiding gun owners. What next? should i hang a flag outside my house that says I own a gun? I am canceling my subscription with your paper today!!!” said commenter Curtis Maenza.

A map of the safest houses in the area

A map of which homes can be defended by guns is also a map of which homes are defenseless. Thieves and rapists in the area applaud the newspaper's decision.

Stupid liberals inviting their obamaphone fellow voters to come burgle, rape and kill them.

Ha! Half my street is retired or active duty Army.

Just a WAG based on observation, my entire neighborhood is pretty much the same.

Well, living just outside Ft Bragg, NC helps the statistics.

Good. They should be criminally charged and prosecuted. I hope they get their a$$es sued off into closure.

If I was a non gun owner in these areas I’d be suing the paper, they just became an easy mark for criminals.

The Journal News said its readers “are understandably interested to know about guns in their neighborhoods,” because of the conversation about gun control on its website after the shooting in Newtown, Conn., last week.

I can't tell you how bleeping tired I am of hearing this latest liberal buzz-word "conversation". There is no "conversation" with liberals; only propaganda. When this liberal rag of a paper can explain why it's ok for the Sidwell Friends to have 11 armed guards, but wrong for the great unwashed of America; then we can have a "conversation".

"If you ever bought a rifle mag or ammo with a credit card, they know what you have got. And me, and all of us."

That's true for recent purchases -- but firearms are designed to be robust and withstand hard use. Pretty much everyone (except my dad!) who returned from WW2 came back with a Luger or K-98. My own state has required permits for pistol purchases since the 1960s, but the permits are still paper with multiple carbon copies. The amount of time and effort to track down everything would be astronomical. And guaranteed to be inaccurate -- the state can't even handle annual vehicle registration renewals without an incredibly high error rate.

If you are a criminal in need of a gun, now you know where to find one.

Conversely, if you are a criminal and want to know where the safe places are, just go the other houses which are unprotected!

Look at it this way, now criminals know which houses they can rape, plunder, and pilege.

Very wrong thing to do. They literally put peoples’ lives in jeopardy by doing that. Should be prosecuted. What about publishing all owners of gold coins?

Comments don’t come up. Of course. I sure hope they don’t mind when their reporters, editors and publisher’s names and addresses are published with equal gusto.

This shows the true philosophy of the “Great Unifier” political party. Seems like all these people do is find ways to divide this nation.

They will wait for an amnesty period, and then conduct a number of splashy “mini-wacos” against bitter clingers who have expressed the idea that they will resist rather than submit to confiscation.

That will be the tactic of choice, to cow the rest into submission, but instead of submission, it will trigger CW2, if they go that way.

One paper in Florida did this a few years ago with the Names and Addresses of licensed Concealed Carry people.

An Orlando TV station did this. And folks looked online and found the station manager and others information from the property appraisers website and promptly posted as much private information as possible about them on the web.

It was only a day or so later their gun owner list then came down.

Simple and effective response:

As many permit holders as possible should go to each and very advertiser of the paper, stand in a conspicuous PUBLIC spot and tell each and every passerby, “I’ve got a gun...permit.”

PS: Imagine how many gun safes will be rigged to explode in the event of confiscation raids actually happening? They’ll need to send EOD along with every gun confiscation SWAT raid.

The odds of getting the bullets first are just too great. The occupational hazards of home invasion.

Publish/GoogleMap the names & addresses of the liberal creeps who work for that newspaper. Crooks can then assume that those homes are gun-free.
