In Newsweek's final print edition, Michael Isikoff writes about when the magazine decided to hold the story of Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky. "The decision was final: Newsweek would hold the story," Isikoff writes, saying that "the brass wanted more work" done on the story before going to print with it.
A few days later, the story of the decade would be broken by the Drudge Report. "It didnt take long, of course, for it to explode," writes the former Newsweek writer. "Early Sunday morning, Internet scribe Matt Drudge popped his screaming 'World Exclusive': 'NEWSWEEK KILLS STORY ON WHITE HOUSE INTERN ... SEX RELATIONSHIP WITH PRESIDENT.'"
Isikoff confesses that he had "certain homicidal tendencies" after being scooped. "As the truth began to unfold, and Newsweeks insider knowledge became clear, The New York Times asked if I was suicidal when the story was spiked," he writes. "I dont know about suicidal, I replied."
Isikoff says he told those who asked about whether he was suicidal, "I wont deny certain homicidal tendencies."
Getting scooped is the least that should happen to these Liberal scumbags who think “Freedom of the Press” is the freedom to choose sides and lie.
Is that some liberal sexual act, or just the traditional journalism expression? I found out "teabagging" was a homosexual practice after Anderson Cooper started using the expression all of the time, and he would know.
This is what happens to evil but they will never learn their lesson.
That's funny.
Sounds like Michael has severe psychological problems that could lead to a dangerous situation like Columbine, Newtown, Aurora, etal, maybe he should be taken out of public life for our protection.
Quick—someone call the Wahaaaambulance!
Quick—someone call the Wahaaaambulance!
The former rarely won.
We saw time after time that a story would slip into the media and be rewritten, spun, quashed entirely or otherwise tampered with for political purposes. We had big copy-write battles because we captured and detailed that spin.
In the tragic school murders we watched media stumble to quickly reporting incorrect information over and over for eight hours. In the Clinton protection mode it worked in reverse.
Since the failure to remove by the Senate, the media has come into its full control of the US political consciousness. What we have with the Obama Presidency is an extension of that day.
Hold the story.......bull spit......they would have BURIED the story had it not been for Drudge.
I heard this the morning O'Reilly was on Imus' show. At the time Drudge was doing his Sunday night radio show and he played this several times to begin shows.
"There is no other cure than to kill Matt Drudge," O'Reilly charged on the IMUS in the MORNING radio show on Wednesday.
"I just want to tell everybody that Matt Drudge is smoking crack - right now, in South Miami Beach on Washington Avenue... And the authorities should know it."
Read this yesterday via RCP. What fun, rewriting history, huh mike?
How about major media tried to supress the news to protect their guy and the emerging alternative media
defeated that effort.
Merry Christmas morning fellow FReepers!
This is the same MSM who treated George Zimmerman as a chew toy for their liberal propaganda. And when the story didn't fit the "narrative", they had no problem with creative editing.
"The brass". *sheesh*. Who uses terms like "the brass". What a lying rat weasel.
If it weren’t for Drudge, and had it been left up to Newsweak, it’s possible that no one would have ever known about this outside of the beltway.
They were covering up for Clinton just like they did for Kennedy when it comes to women/affairs.
I believe Clinton would have easily self destructed, had the Republicans not ‘saved’ him. He was truly blessed to have the enemies that he did. The Republicans at the time just didn’t grasp the concept of when your enemy is in the process of committing suicide, you shouldn’t interfere with him.
The Senate, as a "whole", has long been morally corrupted post WWII.
Personally, in my lifetime, I'd put it at the failure to boot Ted Kennedy after his shameful failing on July 18, 1969. Then, any number of senators were able to get away all sorts of moral failings, outright corruption, and acts, if not outright, bordering on sedition and treason.
Just like the msm held the CT shooting story untill they did more work and nailed down the facts.
We need to hammer NBC, Gregory, and the rest of the “elites” for sending their children to schools protected by armed guards, all the while working to confiscate the Citizens guns.
Class warefare is effective on this issue
The Clintons had those 85+ FBI files and used them to avoid Senate impeachment. Probably lots and lots of juicy info on our honorable Senators. Glenn got rewarded with another space ride. Really principled guy, NOT!
It would be a mistake to assume that Republican Senators would have convicted but stopped short due to threats.
Instead the culture of Washington privilege is ingrained in them as in their Democrat counterparts. They told the House Managers that they wouldn’t view the special evidence files set up for them and they wouldn’t convict. Guys like Stevens were adamant that this was their consensus.
Continues still today, with the ongoing cover-up of Obama/Soetoro/Dunham/Bounel.

“Harrison Bounel”
That’s one I had to Google, to refresh my memory.
Wow, the 0bummer-criminal’s trail is long, convoluted scrubbed and sanitized.
I suspect we’ll never know The Truth, about him.
Getting scooped is exactly what should happen to objective journalists who elect to spike an obviously significant story.Of course, getting scooped implies competition. And it is no accident, comrade, that Newsweek was scooped by an internet site. The Associated Press newswire is a continuous, 24/7 virtual meeting of all the large journalism outlets. The result of that meeting is precisely as Adam Smith would have predicted:
"People of the same trade seldom meet together even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public or some contrivance to raise prices."The effect of continuous meeting is of course a complete absence of ideological competition amongst journalists. You can have all the independence you want among editorial pages, and still have no ideological competition among the objective reporters. The reason wire service journalism - grievously misnamed the MSM - is socialist is actually quite simple. In order to not be socialist, you must respect the man in the arena above the critic. All socialist rhetoric actually boils down to the conceit that criticism is superior to execution. Surprisingly enough, journalists - who after all consider it their job to report bad news and ignore the good - want to criticize everyone elses execution. But let them - and note well, Lenin and Mussolini were both journalists - obtain power, and suddenly criticism of their execution is uncalled for, because their motives are above questioning.
