United States firearm sales have sky-rocketed since the Newtown school massacre, as debate over gun control rages and enthusiasts fear certain assault weapons and high-capacity magazines could be banned.
President Barack Obama basically has put gun enthusiasts on warning, Larry Hyatt, owner of a gun shop in Charlotte, North Carolina, told AFP, referring to efforts to outlaw certain weapons in the wake of the Newtown shooting.
A semi-automatic Bushmaster AR-15 assault rifle was used in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in which a disturbed local young man shot dead 20 young children, six adults and his mother before taking his own life.
"We have been in business for 50 years, and we have seen (fear-based buying) before," Hyatt said. "But this is more intense because the president got in the media and basically said, 'if you want a gun, you better get it now.'""Right after it, anti-guns (activists) started talking. The president said he wanted quick action, and so that is going to fuel the buying frenzy, and it is," Hyatt said, describing the rush as largely "politically motivated."
That means bigger business for an already huge industry: the gun and ammunition manufacturing industry in the United States groups about 300 companies with combined yearly sales estimated at around $7 billion.

Five years in a row!
The last time a Democratic president got serious about confiscating guns, Bill Clinton sent in the military to firebomb the Branch Davidians in Waco, murdering 78 persons, including women and children.
And Bill Clinton wasn’t even a disturbed youth with autistic tendencies and a Satan-worshipping Internet site. He was just a typical liberal Democrat. Just like we have in the White House now.
The current explosion in assault-weapons sales seems to indicate that this time when the Feds burst in, they’ll be greeted much less passively.
Maybe our vacationing president should pause for a moment from contemplating his bad golf scores and instead contemplate the reality of having millions of Dirty Harrys sitting around the country cradling their assault rifles and wishing he would make their day with another stupid attempt at gun confiscation so they can retaliate and finally take back our country.
I once corresponded with a federal agent who was at the WACO compound. He told me that he had not come up against that much firepower in Khe Sanh. Why the ATF decided to go after the Davidians in the first place, and how they handled it at the end are another question, as well as the legality of involving the military in a law-enforcement action. But I wouldn’t call it murder, per se. They were armed, dangerous, and determined, as well as insane for exposing their kids to this. Yaakov Mridor of the Irgun was arrested and went along quietly, because he didn’t want to endanger his children. He had more reason to fight the British than the Davidians had to fight the ATF. If they had been Hamas, you would say they were using their kids as a human shield, and you would be right.
Makes me wonder how much stock George Soros has in Smith & Wesson, Lugar, etc etc....
Maybe we should watch that, the moment Soros sells it all is the moment that the feds ban all guns.....
They had multiple chances to grab Koresh while he was in town on errands with little fanfare instead they had to play Army and make a big splash at the compound. The rest is history.
Indeed. Waco was a practice run for the gov’t. Koresh rode his bicycle to the store once a week or so and the feds knew that yet they chose to raid the complex and launch incendiary tear gas during high winds. Recipe for disaster.
I do not dispute that. But it was idiocy and recklessness, not murder. In the case of the Davidians, the cultists as much as killed those children themselves, just using the guns of their assailants to do the actual killing, as well as rigging the place to burn. They were keeping up with the Joneses, sans Cool-aid.
But I thought insider trading was a bad thing./sarc
Ammo too. Never thought I’d see the day when a 500/550 value pack of .22 LR wouldn’t be able to be found. Had to go to WalMart and 2 pawn shops to round out my stores and still looking for the economical pack of .22s.
Do they even make reload dyes for .22 LR and SR?
I can't imagine being able to reprime the rim of a spent .22. I used to reload (even had a melting pot and forms to cast .45 slugs) but got out of it because it can be difficult to ensure uniform firing characteristics and have "overcooked" some hot loads and was lucky to not destroy a weapon and maybe myself (.45s aren't supposed to leave the muzzle at over 1400 fps from a 1911). I never saw or heard of any home kits/devices for reloading rim fires, but then again, I never looked.
Back in the olden days, rim-fire was all there was, and it was considered a step up from caps and Minie balls. Once had a .32 rimfire revolver for a little while. Since it was black powder, it was legal, and since now nobody makes any rimfire except .22s, it was moot. I wonder how they did it, though. Would have to look up old patents to see. Since we’re talking about the theoretical do-ability of gun and bullet manufacture as a clandestine cottage industry, this ought to be looked into.
I was always told rimfires were reloadable. 1400fps from a 45acp?? Holy Mackeral! I never buy reloaded ammo that has been reloaded by some guy in his basement. The “grenade” load or even squib rounds are a big enough fear I just go with factory ammo and maintain a peace of mind.
I meant to say NOT-reloadable. My bad.
