Christianity 'close to extinction' in Middle East

Christianity faces being wiped out of the “biblical heartlands” in the Middle East because of mounting persecution of worshippers, according to a new report.

The study warns that Christians suffer greater hostility across the world than any other religious group.

And it claims politicians have been “blind” to the extent of violence faced by Christians in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

The most common threat to Christians abroad is militant Islam, it says, claiming that oppression in Muslim countries is often ignored because of a fear that criticism will be seen as “racism”.

It warns that converts from Islam face being killed in Saudi Arabia, Mauritania and Iran and risk severe legal penalties in other countries across the Middle East.

The report, by the think tank Civitas, says: “It is generally accepted that many faith-based groups face discrimination or persecution to some degree.

Here we are on Christmas Eve and we are seeing all of this everywhere and nobody is doing anything about it. I live in Florida but I’m in London right now (midnight mass at Westminster Cathedral!) and at least the English pray for Middle Eastern Christians. Americans seem to have abandoned them.

The news isn’t all bad. The vast majority (more than 50% in most countries) have their kids watch Christian TV stations, since they know that those stations aren’t filled with “jihad!” all day long, and calls to become a suicide bomber. They are ‘safe’ stations for the kids to watch.

Many countries—Iran, for one—are very “young” countries, with the majority under age 21. And many of these people are tired of radical Islam, and are searching for something else.

Christianity is affecting those nations now more than at any time in history; it just isn’t seen on the surface.

How true! Anybody can learn more about the plight of persecuted Chrisitans and DO something for them besides praying by going to Voice of the Martyrs. My Sunday school class has been sending donations towards the purchase of Bibles in Chinese and Farsi for years. It has been a very rewarding experience.

That’s true, but Christians are killed every day in these places and the west doesn’t care, which emboldens the Islamics. Today, Christmas Eve, Christians will go out to mass in their besieged churches in the ME and Africa, and tomorrow, we’ll probably read (on the back page in a sort of filler column) about the deaths of some of them at the hands of “unknowns.”

Yeah, right. The new, improved US will go to the mat to shield Muslims and destroy Christians.

Obama has abandoned the Christians everywhere. There is good news for Christians in the ME. My son had a program and one of the guys there was a missionary in Yemen.

He did walk funny though.
