Local politicians call the NRA's response "stupid."

BALTIMORE, Md. - The NRA leader appeared on Sunday morning talk shows, defending his stance to put armed guards in all schools. Local lawmakers are pushing back.

"They're stupid. It doesn't make sense to add more guns to schools. When you add more guns to reduce violence I think you increase violence," said Sen. Lisa Gladden, (D) Baltimore City.

The largest gun lobbyist broke its silence on Friday, a week after 26 people died at Sandy Hook Elementary by a man with three high-powered guns.

"If it's crazy to call for putting police in our school then call me crazy. I think American people want this," said Wayne LaPierre, NRA CEO.

The NRA insists new laws restricting gun owners, including a ban on assault weapons, will not work. But Senator Lisa Gladden, who represents Baltimore City, is making it her mission to outlaw extended magazines, which allow a gunman to carry more ammunition.

Also, she and her colleagues say there's no use for high-powered weapons.

"An automatic or semi-automatic weapon doesn't work for hunters and for all of those who are shooting animals for the purposes of food because it tears up the flesh," said Sen. Gladden.

When it comes to gun stores, a senator from Montgomery County will push to give state police the same authority as the ATF to audit how many guns were used in a crime and place sanctions on the owners. As for the weapons left on the street, Sen. Gladden has a plan.

"If you count them, it tells people I am going to make sure that the right person or the right people have access to these kinds of weapons," she said.

The sponsors of the state bills argue students were killed at Columbine despite the fact that armed police were there. The gun debate will begin in Annapolis, sometime after opening day on January 9, 2013.

So if Baltimore were to disarm their popos, the place would turn into a rainbow sanctuary for unicorns?

“Crazy” is putting the principal of Sandy Hook in a position where her only option to try to save lives was to rush an armed killer with her bare hands.

I've found that it's incredibly effective to point out that the NRA position is exactly the same one taken by Bill Clinton after Columbine:

LA Times article from 2000

Then, when they follow up by blasting the NRA for opposing that plan, ask why they're spending their time attacking the NRA instead of constructively addressing the issue of gun violence.

Too bad he wasn't using "low-powered guns." Maybe more would have survived.

If gun-free zones make people safe, then let's declare a gun-free zone around the pResident and send the Secret Service home. It will save the taxpayer millions.

Local districts should be coming to their own conclusions. The safety of the children (and everyone else) in a community is that community's responsibility.

The federal government should not be telling school districts that they can not or must arm staff or put armed guards in the schools.

As the member of a local school committee, I would advocate for unnamed existing staff to be trained by the state police or other qualified training centers and armed in the schools.

Our neighboring community may conclude that they prefer counseling and gun free schools; they are their kids and their schools; but if their policies result in failure, they should not attempt to influence the fed to impose their failed solution on our community.

No Senator. YOU are stupid. You can not get off your liberal talking point “GUNS”... They are not talking about adding “GUNS” into the school, but good guy armed human beings, with the purpose of stopping bad guy armed human beings. If you would just grow up and stop being a sheep of liberalism you would understand the difference.

Using his own 'logic', David Gregory should demand that the 11 security guards at Sidwell Friends School, where he sends his kids, should be pulled because they just might not be able to stop a shooting.

Rank hypocrites, all of them. The NRA and gun-rights activists needs to get on top of the fact that they can afford private security but want to deny self-defense to the working stiffs of the world. THAT resonates more than anything else.

If armed guards are stupid and not needed to keep our kids safe... Then i guess we can save a ton of money in these tough economic times by pulling them from banks, airports, the president, Congress, other government buildings, etc - right? I mean, if they are not necessary to protect our kids, then they must not be necessary to protect these other things, right? Hey politicians, either you agree with the NRA and guard our schools, or pull all of your own armed security everywhere too. Any other course of action tells me, and all your voters, that you value your hide more than our kids’ lives. What’s it going to be mr/mrs vote-buyer?

Sen. Lisa Gladden, (D) Baltimore City. = Stupid.

One has to be stupid to be a democRAT. There is no alternative. To actually have an working brain and be a democRAT is contradictory.

You can’t have a reasonable debate with liberals when they are gripped by mass-hysteria.

I demand Congress be made a "gun free" zone. After all if young innocent children can't have armed guards, why should Congress? Are they somehow more "precious"?

Which shooting has been stopped by gun laws. Chicago and other eastern cities have become the murder center of the world and more people have been killed under gun control than in the last several wars.

With the number of times he shot the victims, a .22 would have been just as deadly. If what I’ve seen is correct, he killed his mother with a .22
