Islamists in Mali have begun destroying remaining mausoleums in the historic city of Timbuktu, an Islamist leader and a tourism official said.
Not a single mausoleum will remain in Timbuktu, Abou Dardar, a leader of the Islamist group Ansar Dine, told AFP news agency.
Islamists in control of northern Mali began earlier this year to pull down shrines that they consider idolatrous.

You can see the same work going on in Austrian churches presently on fire.
Coming soon here if Obama green lights it.
When they take over here, they’ll tear down
all the shrines to Elvis too.
Now that is going too far!
Ah, yes, the “religion of pieces.”
Mali was once French. Where is the Foreign Legion? Oh, I forgot, another red is running the country, right into the ground under another white flag of surrender.
Depardieu knew what he was doing when he left. Thank God the two strong women of the French film industry, Bridget Bardot and Catherine Deneuve, had the guts to speak up in his defense.
No, they’ll just sanitize history. And claim that Elvis was always a muslim.
Other than weapons and hovels, have these people actually built anything recently (i.e., in the last 400 years)?

...Mecca!
I wouldn't rule out the possibility that a few rare individuals have contributed something of value to humanity in that time, but I'll be damned if I can cite you a single instance.
“Today, Timbuktu - tomorrow, Giza!”
Actually, they never built any of their weapons either. They got them from subordinate humans.
Not a chance! This country is too spineless to do it.
I don’t care which country does it. Or even if it is a country that does it. ;-)
It even tries to obliterate history.
As long as Obama is in that office, it will be a similar scenario, however, never Mecca.... it will be Israel.
Ask his army, the MB/ AlQ, and all the other muslim groups. Greater probability is him allowing the release of Iranian nuclear weapons here in America.

Its a lovely thought. Soooo lovely.
I think something more effective would be to make sure the internet is open keyed to all the repressive governments seeking to take control of the net via the UN.
Once the peeple see and better understand the west, gain some knowledge, and understand how the outside functions, their leaders will have one helluva problem.
Imagine the world of Islam understanding the culture of democracy! Just... imagine.
ROP at its very best.....bleeeech. What won’t they destroy?
Islam is a war plan.
Too bad the left doesn’t understand it either.
First we had the “Arab Spring.”
Now we have the “Arab Spring Cleaning.”
Islam is stuck in the 5th century politically and culturally. They are doing the same stupid things throughout the ages. The word, “backward” comes to mind. Stuck on stupid also comes to mind.
Most fail to recognize the Christian heritage that gave us our individualism, our rights , freedoms and liberties codified in the Magna Carta.
This is something for which the muslim world has no comparison, explaining why they are so backwards.
And we have a backwards muslim driving America..... down the drain. Their hero. Their fraud.
That’s a bit of an insult to the fifth century, which had its highlightsmost significantly the retreat of the Roman Empire, especially from Britain. (Opinions of the Hunnic Empire vary, of course.)
The ways of the “religion” in question don’t belong in any century, even the antediluvian ones.
my personal suspicion... it will be done by a hot head dot head. some day, some hindu is going to conclude the assault by muslims is TOO MUCH, and will pursue what he feels to be the karmic equivalent of the 72 muslim virgins. and a muslim holy site will get completely wiped out.
piles of rubble
Much of the positive contributions of Islam have come from Sufism - the people who built the mausoleums an mosques that are being destroyed. In India, a “golden age” was overseen by Sufi rulers. In that instance as in this one all the contributions were ground to dust mixed with blood by Islamic fundamentalists.
That’s an interesting thought. I do think it’s more likely to not come from the west. I wouldn’t be surprised if it took several more decades.
The departure of the Romans from England was a highlight? That was a tragedy. They fell back into chaos, and stopped building roads until the Norman conquest.
The Romans were the best thing to ever happen to those isles.
SPQR
And the egyptians are wondering why their izlamist president is having a negative effect on tourism. Heh
Indeed. A roman revival would not be a bad thing overall.
The name Obama comes to mind immediately.
I am finally ready to waste Mecca.
I’m not sure regarding the return of the Roman Republic. We have a republic now, such as it is. However if we might dicuss the calling forth of a Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus-like personage from the ‘heartland’ I might be receptive of the idea. I find swearing loyalty and striking the breastplate in salute to the ‘Nero’ we have unspeakable, repugnant and beyond my ability. Cinncinatus? SPQR

Well, I meant the ideal. Power and justice and so on. Not Christian or Judaism for sure, but was strong and powerful for a long time. A great turning point in early history.
Muslims are the human equivalent of cockroaches.
“The Romans were the best thing to ever happen to those isles.”
That’s just silly; there is no cultural trace that Rome had even been there. For Ireland/Scotland, Rome never WAS there.
If Latin (or Italian) was the worldwide language of business today, you’d have a point.
Sad. Mali is a beautiful country. Hate to see what is happening there.
If I could push one button to obliterate that entire group of subhuman, murderous filth, I’d do it.
“The other significant 5th-century event in Britain was the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons.”
That was a critical point in Britain’s history, and left a much deeper impression on the island (most specifically the English language itself - spoken much more widely than Italian). Immediately prior to the Norman invasion, the Saxon king Harold had just defeated a Viking invasion and had to double-time to meet the Normans; accounts of the battle of Hastings, in which Harold was killed, indicate a battle the Normans very nearly lost. The Saxons snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by breaking their shield wall (which had held for the duration of the battle) and charging. A special Norman unit was then able to kill Harold, and rather than be driven back to Normandy for lack of supplies the Norman forces were able to win the day.
These were hardly barbarian invasions; William was familiar with Harold and thought he was the rightful heir to Harold’s throne (they had made some agreement years earlier).
India's capital is currently in their third day of riots over Muslim gang-rapists.
Ah, the cosmopolitan Mohammedan pigs strike again—part of their never-ending quest to bring back the 7th century.
