ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- Authorities say U.S. Sen. Michael Crapo has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence in a Washington, D.C. suburb.

Police in Alexandria, Va., said Sunday that the Idaho Republican was pulled over early Sunday morning after his vehicle ran a red light. Police spokesman Jody Donaldson said Crapo failed field sobriety tests and was arrested at about 12:45 a.m. without incident. He was transported to the Alexandria jail and released on an unsecured $1,000 bond at about 5 a.m..

Donaldson said he didn't immediately know what Crapo's blood alcohol level was.

Crapo has a Jan. 4 court date.

A Crapo spokesman couldn't be immediately reached for comment Sunday night.

Crapo has been in the Senate since 1998, and served for six years in the House before that.

I could tell it was a republican, because the word republican was used in the first paragraph. If party affiliation hadn’t been mentioned in the first paragraph, I would have correctly assumed it was a democrat

"Donaldson said Crapo failed field sobriety tests"

For a second I pictured Sam Donaldson leaking this news after his own DUI.

Just because he failed a sobriety test does not indicate he was under the influence. I do not drink, nor use any narcotics, cold medicine nor any other medication which could impair my driving, but that does not mean I can pass a field sobriety test. Having been an LEO, I know the FST. Running a red light... hmm.. classic!

Idiot.

But ... doubt anything will come of it as far as his seat. Sure the Lib press will eviscerate him but that will be the end of it.

Again. Idiot. Forget politics, cal a damn cab.

I prosecuted way too many DUI manslaughter cases.

They've paved over much of Arlington with condos ~ tall ones in fact. Then there's Metrorail ~ the place is hard core urban downtown these days.

No more Indonesian restaurant where, with proper supplications, you could get rat meat!

I think the Jordanians that owned the pizza joint in Rosslyn still own it. Alexandria is a little bit less organized ~ but it too has an enormous collection of large buildings. Now the complex is spreading out to Springfield.

Well, he copped a plea to leaving the scene of an accident, and lost his driver’s license for a while. Not that that stopped him from driving.

Senator Crapo should resign right after New Jersey Senator Menendez resigns.

There is a "breach of the peace" exception to the congressional immunity clause. However, I do believe that drunk Democrats are considered a normal occurrence in Washington. Drunk Republicans constitutes a breach of the peace.

He got moved to Chicago where he has voted the straight (D) ticket in every election since, just like his brothers.

It looks like he better check into one of those designer “rehab clinics” for politicians and celebrities pretty quick if he intends to “rehab” his reputation.

Another prime example of why the GOP must go.

The GOP has ZERO credibility on taxes, spending, and deficits. The GOP has ZERO credibility on integrity. The majority of Americans view Republicans as hypocrites and buffoons.

The GOP must be SMASHED and replaced with a genuine, conservative party.

No sympathy here. Too many of our so called legislatures are nothing more than drunks. They spend and spend and acquire their fiefdoms. They think the law doesn’t apply to them. I don’t care what party he ‘belongs’ to....a drunk is still just a drunk

A US Senator out partying hard on a Saturday night - he's not the only one, the political class in the DC area is living the good life while the rest of the country sinks into financial ruin. Our tax dollars at work.
