Gun control policy ideas more than just talk
The Los Angeles Times ^ | December 22, 2012 | Melanie Mason, Washington Bureau

Just one day after President Obama tapped Vice President Joe Biden to lead an initiative on gun violence, Jon Adler was at its first meeting, along with Cabinet secretaries and organizations representing law enforcement.

Not much lead time, but no matter: Adler, national president of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Assn., had a list of policy changes — from legislative to regulatory to "tactical" coordination — at the ready, with granular detail. He cited, chapter and verse, the law that makes it a misdemeanor to knowingly possess a firearm in a school zone. He wanted that upgraded to a felony.

No shortage exists of policy ideas to reduce gun violence. Law enforcement groups, gun-safety advocates and other organizations weighing in on the firearms debate have churned out policy prescriptions for years. Most of the time, the recommendations have simply gathered dust. Now, in light of the Connecticut school shooting, advocates hope some of their proposals may become law.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg released a statement with his policy wish list less than an hour after Obama announced the Biden-led talks. In addition to shoring up the criminal background check system and introducing laws to ban assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, Bloomberg detailed immediate actions the president could take. Among them: ordering all federal agencies to send records to the national gun background check database...

I am predicting this spring there will be a 5 million strong fully armed Tea Party gathering in Washington DC.

obama will call out the military in fear.

No rifle of any kind was not used in the shooting.

An AR-15 was used exclusively. I don't know if this fits your definition of rifle but it is what he used.

I will be one of the very first to point out that the folks pushing gun control this time actually prefer that our youngest most innocent children just huddle with fear in the corner of the classroom while the madman shoots them one by one.

If you ever suspected the anti-gun nuts were truly mentally ill, here it is ~ their reaction to the NRA proposal proves it.

We can no longer afford to treat them as if they are normal humans ~ they aren't! They are just like Holmes, Hassan, and all the other schizophrenics and crazoids who like to ambush unarmed people.

It was found in the car. Not in the school.

Nope. It was a shotgun found in the trunk of the car as this video clearly shows:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLrxSgkqJQc

That's no AR-15.

The medical examiner also says the children were killed by .223 rounds. And the number of rounds fired attest to this. And, sadly, common sense also points to using the AR-15. Lanza was crazy but he wasn't stupid. If you were a deranged madman set on killing as many people as possible, would you leave your most effective weapon behind in the trunk of your car?

As much as I wish he didn't use an "assault" rifle, fact is he did. Denying this and/or trying to make this into some kind of conspriracy doesn't change things. Lanza used an AR-15 because he had one and because he wanted to kill everybody.

That is not an AR-15. I reviewed that part several times and the picture is too blurry to narrow down what type of weapon that is. It doesn't look like a shotgun.
I haven't seen anything that points to an AR-15 being found in the school. Only a mention of spent .223 rounds. My thought was some type of weapons that are easier to conceal on approach to the school.

Have you looked? It's all over the news. Lanza forced his way into the school with an AR-15, a Glock 10mm and a Sig Sauer 9mm. He killed the children with the AR-15 and shot himself with one of the handguns. The police have not released what handgun he used. The police found a shotgun in the trunk but have not released the details of make and model. In time, the police will release all the details of this crime.

I'm not making this stuff up.

Maybe something like this:

Lanza didn't use a Beretta .22LR. You seem to have issues accepting the truth?

The AR15 is not an assault rifle, and the universally identified “Bushmaster .223” used is basically an AR15.

Keep that focus. They’re trying to muddy the waters.

We need Benghazi and Fast and Furious back in the news. Toss in Trayvon Martin and Rev. Wright. People think that Obama is a good man who likes them. When the opposite is the truth.

Don’t let them play this fast and loose game to muddle the minds of the mushy middle.

Watch Soledad go after Lott. That’s their game plan and the good thing about Soledad is she’s so stupid she needs to be prompted. It’s obvious she’s reading from a script spoken into her mind by some coach. Don’t let them dictate the story.

Castle doctrine must be implemented. They cannot go after our guns, period. This is pure hubris. They cannot find energy and money to kick the illegals but plenty of resolve to attack armed Americans making war on AMerica itself.

With friends like the GOP-e, who needs enemies.

““He cited, chapter and verse, the law that makes it a misdemeanor to knowingly possess a firearm in a school zone. He wanted that upgraded to a felony. “

Yeah, that’ll fix the problem.”

I think you are being sarcastic. They need to make it retroactive. Then it WILL fix the problem.

A government with evil intentions uses every criminal act to attack the freedoms and rights of law-abiding citizens instead of the criminals.

No round in the chamber for American soldiers, no armed civilian neighborhood watchmen, no armed guards for public schools,no equivalent firepower with the criminal element and government and the citizenry. Progress in leaps and bounds for them not us.

Castle doctrine must be implemented.

Absurd; when the confiscators are at your door it is too late, when they are in your home it is far too late.

They cannot go after our guns, period. This is pure hubris.

Our government has an arrogance on par with the national debt; they will [attempt to] do what they believe they can do.

They cannot find energy and money to kick the illegals but plenty of resolve to attack armed Americans making war on AMerica itself.

This is true; but then again there is a reason for it: the illegals, being illegals, are dependent on government allowing them to stay -- citizens are another matter entirely, but they wish to make us all equal in that respect: to have all rights and privileges dependent upon government approval.

With friends like the GOP-e, who needs enemies.

The GOP is complacent, complicit, incompetent, or any combination thereof -- this is obvious from their actions & inactions.

All of this was pre-planned. Marxists and liberals alway have plans to takeover. That is why they are the most dangerous people in the US.

My son is a federal police officer and he CANNOT get a permit to carry his own personal weapon when off-duty in the city where he works. Nor can he carry his personal weapon across some state lines eventhough he has a CCP and one big fucking badge.

Thus, once he leaves work, guarding many people, he is just as useless as a blindman if there is trouble. Pointing your finger at an armed nut is just not going to cut it.

Gun control, as practiced by the Obama administration, is the biggest obstruction to armed & trained people protecting themselves and others.

We could literally triple or quadruple the number of well-trained and armed citizens on the streets at any time of day or night, thus augmenting understaffed police departments.

Remember, must police departments run three 8 hour shifts so you only have one-third of the regular personnel available at any one time (then deduct desk-bound officers, those on leave, sick, injured). Doesn’t leave you with much in some cities.

Believe me, I’ve been around police since theh 1960’s and have seen both the good and the bad, and it is getter worse every day.

Also, you never hear about a trained Police Auxiliary anymore.

Marxists, when they take control of a country, always do three things immediately.
*Seize armories etc.
*Seize the means of communications
*Seize privately held weapons.

After that, the takeover comes easy.

I didn’t make this up. Karl Marx, Lenin, Trotsky, Derzhinsky and Beria did.
