Obama: I Met Republicans Halfway On Taxes, More Than Halfway On Spending

THE PRESIDENT: Good afternoon, everybody. Over the last few weeks I've been working with leaders of both parties on a proposal to get our deficit under control, avoid tax cuts -- or avoid tax hikes on the middle class, and to make sure that we can spur jobs and economic growth -- a balanced proposal that cuts spending but also asks the wealthiest Americans to pay more; a proposal that will strengthen the middle class over the long haul and grow our economy over the long haul.

During the course of these negotiations, I offered to compromise with Republicans in Congress. I met them halfway on taxes, and I met them more than halfway on spending. And in terms of actual dollar amounts, we're not that far apart.

As of today, I am still ready and willing to get a comprehensive package done. I still believe that reducing our deficit is the right thing to do for the long-term health of our economy and the confidence of our businesses. I remain committed to working towards that goal, whether it happens all at once or whether it happens in several different steps.

"I met them more than halfway on spending."

The only spending that counts is the next two years.

The whole thing is BS. Nothing but kabuki theater. Not one single plan under discussion amounts to a fart in a hurricane in regards to addressing the national debt or the economy.

What I want for Christmas: ONE member of the media who will confront ridiculous statements such as this.

No, O. We don’t need half of your tax increase. We need a substantial tax CUT!

and if you can’t start cutting the excessive spending NOW when it is doing us the most harm, then nobody believes you about any proposed cuts in year 2025

In the year 2094, Obama supports a $50 trillion spending cut. Beat that, you evil republicans!

Lying POS.

How could fox stand there with a straight face? We don’t need even steven spending and cutting. the Cutting has to be WAY more than the spending, that’s how you REDUCE deficits.

Can I nominate Dave Ramsey for budget director?

What difference would that make? The rest will ensure that 50%+ believe what Obama is saying.

Our founding fathers gave newspapers extraordinary protection in the Constitution. In exchange they were to be the last check and balance in our political system.

We are now at the point where almost 100% of the old main stream media support the goals of the far left. And if you are a member of the far left, the ends justify the means. Lying is not a problem.

This administration does not even attempt to provide cover for their lies. They can make any statement about anything and the media will report it as truth, and demonize anyone that attempts to correct the record (which is why they have spent years demonizing Fox news and conservative radio shows).

Now all they have to do is say “Well that comes from Fox and you know how bias they are”, and the people will believe it to be so.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. We are at that stage where they feel they can say and do anything they want.

History has proven that even absolute dictators will fail when they push their citizens too far. As always no one really knows where that point is. Also no one can predict what will happen to those that have been lying to the people when that point is reached, I suspect it will not be pretty.

Let's see:

First, we raise the Debt Ceiling because an ALL DEMOCRAT MAJORITY pushed handouts to un-sustainable levels, and now we want to pay for that on the backs of those who have "more than their fair share"? So...if we cut back on OTHER spending, then taxing is okay?

What a dork.
