Russian forces take Syrian chemical, biological weapons under control
Debka ^ | December 22, 2012

Posted on 12/22/2012 7:24:30 AM PST by Dave346

The chemical warfare threat looming over Syria’s civil war and its neighbors has taken an epic turn with the announcement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Saturday, Dec. 22, that “the Syrian government has “consolidated its chemical weapons in one or two locations amid a rebel onslaught and they are under control for the time being.”

He added that Russia, “which has military advisers training Syria’s military, has kept close watch over its chemical arsenal.”

Debkafile’s military and intelligence sources report: The Russian foreign minister’s statement was a message to Washington that the transfer of Syria’s weapons of mass destruction to one or two protected sites was under Russian control. This had removed the danger of them falling into the hands of the al Qaeda-affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra ,which had come ominously close Friday, Dec. 21, when the Islamists spearheaded a Syrian rebel assault for the capture of the al-Safira military complex and Bashar Assad’s chemical and biological stores.

Lavrov did not go into detail about how this arsenal was removed and to which locations. But his reference to “Russian military advisers training Syria’s military” clearly indicated that Russian forces were directly involved in removing the WMD out of the reach of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists.

His assertion that they were “under control” indicated that Russia was also involved in safeguarding them.

Just in case one ever wondered why Debka was so much like Pravda.

Thanks, but no thanks, Dave346.

Exactly; Russia taking the WMD is the responsible thing to do.

“Exactly; Russia taking the WMD is the responsible thing to do.”

I’m not so sure about that.... how many UN resolutions did they do first?

Do I need the /s?

Probably so.

Those are some of the Weapons of Mass Destruction that Sadamm didn't have that were shipped to Syria during the time the Dems killed time back when it was time to invade Iraq.

The dems gave just enough time to move WMD’s to Syria and bury a bunch of them in Iraq too.

As has been noted on this thread, this get’s Obama’s panties in a great big bunch fer sure!

He wanted them to go to his handler's (Jarrett) terrorist org, the Muslim Brotherhood.

I guess it get’s Jarrett's jock strap in a bunch too...but she will still get her agenda pushed big time by her lackey Obama.

I say let them.

At least Russia knows how to deal with terrorists, and isn’t hamstrung by PC cries of racist when what needs being done needs doing.

I’d rather live under Russia than Obama

Debka.

Just saying.

I’m suprised they are still around. Aren’t they the ones who some years ago claimed China had millions of troops in Mexico ready to invade the US?

Here is a CNN article citing the Russian Foreign Minister claiming that Syria itself is consolidating the WMD.

Russia: Syria consolidates its chemical weapons

With Debka you need to decide, is it all disinfo or is there some truth there.

“Now on to the black market where Russia can sell them to the highest bidder.”

Probably stale outdated crap that would make the Russians (who also suplied them) look bad if Assad deployed them

Interesting how it was also the Russians who oversaw the transfer of those same WMD’s from Iraq to Syria during the Gulf War.

The presumption is that the rebels can’t defeat the Russians.

Never underestimate the enemies capabilities.

Here I was waiting to see if US would do anything to secure the WMDs, but of course not under Obama.

What would you have us do? Invade? Bomb the chemical weapons?

If Russia wants that mess, they're more than welcome to it.

So now allies can commandeer munitions on a sovereign state’s territory? Interesting sort of ‘ally’. Will the US be sending troops to “take control” of weapons of which they disapprove in Israel next? Of course, I’m being a legal purist. But it’s a disturbing precedent.

Never underestimate the enemies capabilities.

And neither should we. When Russians claim that the Syrians have all their WMD under control, you can probably bet your last nut, that they do not.

Long-range missiles raise new threat in Syria
